The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I'm surprised there isn't more sentiment for Trey Smith. We haven't been able to run the ball recently. Smith, Biadasz, and Cosmi would give us a super solid interior, and if Coleman makes a jump and we are able to upgrade tackle in the draft, that would make for a huge year over year improvement.
 
Chiefs might be reworking some contracts to get Trey Smith back. We’ll see if he becomes available. But they have some really high contracts for a few players. At 19mil in cap space next year they’ll have to rework. It would be really nice to grab him though.
 
I wou;d bring back Wylie as well, he hasn't been bad. Hopefull they can bring in another RT for an upgrade and use Wylei as a depth piece. I sure would like to see Lucas return. One thing they obviously have to do is upgrade the backup center positon. As for Ward I hate to feel as if I'm praying on a tragedy, but all signs are he will not re-sign with the Niners and with Lattimore's injury history they have to protect against that. I can invision a CB group of Lattimore, Ward, Sanristill in the slot with Iggyy and a rookie as depth if that can be pulled off.
 
I feel like Stanley, from the Eagles, is having a freak healthy year and is a little bit older. I’d rather draft our guy at tackle and sign smith, who is 25 years old. Even if that means trading up to grab our tackle.
 
I think the problem with our o line is that it is mostly filled with C level players. Now, a C line with Daniels can be very effective, but problems start when a C player gets nicked and their play declines. I think that's what we saw with Wylie. He was better this year than last year. For eight games or so our line was actually pretty good. It outperformed expectations, but when Coleman, Lucas, Wylie, and Biadazz kept getting dinged the line play really suffered even when they tried to soldier through.

So, my feeling on Wylie is that he is okay if A) he isn't hurt and B) his focus is right. Last year, he lost focus because the team sucked and I just think his effort matched his belief in the team. Still, he probably maxes out as a B and is for the most part a C. So, it would be nice to upgrade. Interestingly, I like Algretti, Biadazz, Cosmi, and Coleman even though arguments could be made for wholesale changes, but I think in free agency getting one new starter and improving our depth is the key.
 
I feel like there's a lot of other good NFC teams that will be in competition for FAs in the offseason. We'll need a lot of that smooth AP charm to woo players our way :love:

1) Money
2) Jayden at QB
3) Great culture with DQ
4) Stable and supportive ownership (player facilities, family accommodations, etc.)

We are going to be at or near pole position for every FA where the money is close.

Prepare to reign as Offseason Champions once again!!
 
The one thing we are going to have going for us is a story. Not only can we offer a chance to compete for a starter position, but they can be part of a team that they can see is going somewhere.

"We have cap space, a rising star, and a try-hard team that got this far without all star talent.... imagine what we could do with you!"

I’m right there with you on all of this. Re-sign Lucas, hope to land an OT in the 1st (but if not, we’re at least not in terrible shape), draft a G/C that can compete with Allegretti and backup Biadasz, add a good FA corner, then draft another to bolster depth behind Lattimore and his injury issues. Sainristil’s versatility and re-signing Igbinoghene rounds out the group nicely.
Maybe treat wr like corner - quality FA with a rookie wr. Take advantage of the quality rookie edge class (drafting one in the 1st or 2nd). Draft a back.

If they upgrade the starting LG position, Allegretti would make a great backup tool as he can play either guard position and center.
 
Other teams may have interest in targeted players but Washington has more cap room than many of them.

And unlike the Raiders or Patriots we aren’t coming off a 4-13 type season with coaching and qb issues.

I'm all for this . . . think we have 3 - 4 years before we have to give HUGE $$$ to JD5 . . . so get someone like Tee Higgins, with a front loaded contract that can either be renegotiated after 3 years or we have an out then. That gives us 3 years of drafting to get some young WR's ready to take the reigns.

I agree on not spending big at LG with cosmis contract on the books. Maybe a short term like zeitler etc. But Wylie needs to go. I hope they bring back Lucas and he can battle it out with a draft pick. I think I'd rather see Scott out there than Wylie.

Just realized KZ has been at RG his whole career, so probably not a good option, but I agree with your premise.
 
I thnk one of the things we will discover is whether these one and two year free agent contracts are a bug or a feature. If Peters philosophy is really draft centric (and I thinkit is) then he may stick to filling in the roster with blue collar free agents and a few last hurrah guys. He very well may forego a very good player demanding elite free agent money (like a Tee Higgins) in favor of a solid player who can be supplanted by a drat pick.

My best guess is that we will see a blend, a hybrid philosophy which allows a big signing if the stars align, but I don't expect the open wallet, heavy spending of the early Snyder years. I also don't imagine we'll see the penny pinching of Bruce Allen. That said, ultimately, I expect Peters hopes to find the solutions in the draft and not look for answers but to patch up holes in free agency. In other words, I expect Plan B free agents.
 
Nothing new here, but…

In a little over 6 months, we’ve seen Peters sign a couple of semi-expensive 3 year deals, tons of 1 year deals, trade a player for a pick, attempt to trade up in the draft, trade back in the draft, and trade for a fairly expensive contract (after proving we’re a good team).

Now we’ve made the playoffs (and have a qb and staff that have proven themselves), have decisions to make on a bunch of the 1 year players, have a fair number of weaker positions, modest draft picks and tons of cap space. In other words, we have reason to be aggressive, AP has proven a willingness to be aggressive, and yet he’s also played it smart. I’m very much looking forward to each section of the off-season playing out; re-signings, FA, the draft, and the possibility of trades.
