The 2025 Free Agency Thread

I thought they did not want to extend him. I think I would prefer Garrett Wilson.
If Higgins hits free agency I’d rather go all out to sign him rather than trade draft assets for Wilson - or certainly Hill. We have a lot of needs - OT, WR, RB, Edge, CB - need all the draft capital we have.

Yeah a bit harsh to say he quit on the Chiefs, but he requested a trade when the Chiefs extension offer wasnt as high as he wanted.

If you don’t like that quality in your stud WR’s then you’re gonna be stuck still watching Terry McLaurin in his 40’s, he’s fairly unique in that regard lol. It’s a position with a lot of divas that can win you a lot of games

But there are divas/me guys and head cases. Hill edges towards the later category IMO.

Sure, but there is a world where none of Higgins, Godwin, or Garrett Wilson leave their current teams.

With our cap situation and AP having such great focus on getting a "Commanders guy", I can't wait to see who he brings in. Does he buy talent or does he live in the draft for the big shots? Can you imagine if a player like Myles Garett decides he wants out? This will be great to watch how AP navigates this year.

Terrible story about Charvarius Ward. I had him pegged as a target for Peters bc of the SF connection and the 9ers extended Lenoir. Other CB targets include DJ Reed and Kristian Fulton.

I think Ward would be perfect as a 1 year guy (probably the deal he is looking for after a disaster of a year this year). AP helped bring him from KC to SF and has a personal connection with him. Ward was signaling in the interview he'd like to go to a team in Texas to be closer to family after the tragedy (Houston would seem to make sense given the connection with Ryans). However, I would think we have a shot

If Lattimore can stay healthy and Ward can bounce back, with Sainristil, we'd have a top 5 trio coming into the season next year. We would be able to play more man in theory and drop more people in the box.

I think I'd let both Payne and Allen go this offseason. One of Payne's issues this season was picking up the new techniques he was being taught - that has not improved. Allen has been a JAG the last couple years. Clean house there, open up cap room.

Draft a guy and sign a Sebastian Joseph Day (former team captain who was briefly with SF in 2023) or BJ Hill

Cutting Payne isn’t feasible on his current contract.

I agree he’s been consistently disappointing, but what “new techniques” did he struggle to pick up? I’d be interested in your breakdown

Not sure I like their choices for us. I don't think Diggs is a good fit and I am wary of drafting an injured player. It sometimes works out great. It sometimes foreshadows a player who is consitantly injured.

They list RT as the #1 need over WR/CB/Edge and then they list our top FA target as a 31-year old Stefon Diggs over Higgins/Godwin because... he grew up in Gaithersburg? Lol be fr
I was more interested in the money projections: that extra 24 million can help strengthen the team, though Wiley seemed to do fairly good this years.

To be clear, not criticizing you - appreciate you posting the link. Was criticizing the writers, though with 32 teams to cover not surprised they took a spaghetti at the wall approach.

As for the cut suggestions, agree that I would not move on from Wylie until/unless I have a better replacement on the roster. And even then, you want as much depth as you can have in the trenches. Especially if we draft a guy at that spot or move Coleman to RT, I'd keep Wylie another year to finish out his contract.

I am very curious to see if Coleman can make a jump in his second year. That article someone posted about pressure rates encouraged me. I think it would be smart to hedge our bets and we need to get more depth on the line as well as beef up our starters, but I'd give Coleman a chance to prove he can be the guy.

I think this is all about helping the star young quarterback JD5.The best way to help him is to continue to improve the oline. Ronnie Stanley would be at the top of my list. This guy would allow us to move Colemen to LG or RT. Improving the starting unit in two spots and strengthening our depth. We must continue to strengthen our fronts as the number one priority.

As far as WR we have seen JD5 alleviate WRs around him.Look at Terry (has always been great) ,O.Z and both Browns have all been playing some of the best ball of there life with JD5. We can get WRs in the draft and second wave of free agents if we miss out on Higgins. No need to trade assets for guys like Hill or DK. I don't see Diggs fit with the team on or off the field. If the 49ers cut Deebo he would be a menace in Kingsbury offense. Nick Westbrook-Ikhine is a nice looking redzone target on the rise that shouldn't break the bank.

We need atleast one more CB. I would love Ward. I think Reed will get over 20 mil per pricing out of our range. Carlton Davis and Byron Murphy would nice.

Many option out there I have all the faith in the world Peters will get it right.

I’d say no to Deebo. Plus I think he’ll be back with the 49ers. He has a dead cap hit of $31 mil. ** I’m still learning about contracts. Just started looking into them. It looks like the 49ers can void his contract in 2026.
