Random Thoughts

It took me most of my life but I have finally found the best of both worlds; South Florida from October thru April and southern Finland from May through September. I also completely enjoy splitting time between the US and Europe every bit as much as I do the weather.

I hope I am still playing at 81

We need more conscious and generous people in this world

Crappy weather rolling in here soon, and for the whole weekend.

Rainy and dreary here in NC. Good excuse to stay in and do a whole lot of nothing :)

The snow thing is final straw for me.

I'm staying here.

That was too cool and plenty folk used to talk to in a previous life is still here.

There's a subreddit and new ExtremeCommanders site...BGO feels most like home for me...
When I got online this morning BGO was the first site I visited. I guess that makes this place my #1 board. As I told Boone every time I come back I have several notifications. People are just nice here, it's great to see you and so many of the ES gang, the folks here could not have been more welcoming. It feels like home to me as well.

Good to be back in the 20815 for the holidays. Went down to the mall yesterday, hit up the Natural History Museum. Fantastic. I could have spent 8-9 hours in there reading everything. I was with my girlfriend and her 14 year-old daughter so time and patience was limited. Also saw the Capitol, Lincoln Memorial, and Washington Monument. Tried hitting up Air & Space but they have limited capacity. I have a beef with their reserving tickets website, I woke up precisely at 8:30 am right now and tried reserving but somehow they sold out in 1 minute. At least we got something for Tuesday.

Driving up to Philadelphia and NYC tomorrow. Wish me luck, have no idea where to go in NYC haha. My gf and her daughter are from Guatemala and this is their first time on the east coast.

Now for my next old guy rant. Backing into a parking spot is becoming so much more common now, I'm sure some of you ass clowns do it too. Here is my issue: It obviously takes longer to back into a parking space surrounded by cars than to back into the much larger area of a parking lot. I will argue to my death that it takes longer to back into a spot and then drive forward to leave than to pull in forward and then back into a wide open area to leave. So what time are you saving? I get the quick exit but it just takes longer and is more challenging to do it this way. Now this is why this is important to me. Every time I see someone driving along and then suddenly stopping and backing up I am delayed while they negotiation the move to back into a parking space, far longer than had they simply gone in front first. At times I am forced to back up to allow room for this driver to back into a spot he had already passed and I am now sitting in front of.

And that is my complaint. It may be convenient for you to just get in and go however it's an inconvenience for everyone around you, your method is more difficult and puts hitting the other cars more in play and you did not save any time.

Same here, but I've let a few things go (chores) and I'll be working off nervous energy about tomorrow's game. (Of course, while watching football.) ;)

It's because of the accident rate in parking lots. AAA and others have done studies stating you have a better view of the lane, so you don't pull out as another vehicle is coming by, or a pedestrian. They're not wrong in stating this, so it's not actually about time. When I was a first responder, I always backed in.... That being said, it also drives me crazy... people lack basic skills in tight maneuvering situations. Even with back up cameras, and they take three shots at it. I see people take more than one shot just pulling into a spot... Don't even get me started on parallel parking :aargh4::aargh4::aargh4:

Where it drives me craziest is Costco. I see people taking thirty minutes to back in with a long queue of cars waiting for them to finish all the while knowing that when they have finished shopping they will have blocked off their trunk.

I'm waiting for the mods to start trying to sell me a timeshare or something.
I think this is where I'm obligated to say...

Buy my book (or another BGO's author book. I remember another one of us posting their covers a little while ago.) If fiction isn't your thing, Boone should be coming out with a cookbook any day now (being less glib some of the recipes shared sound pretty great)

For some reason, it reminds me of the Beatles. When they first landed in the United States, a reporter asked them if they were a mod or a rocker. Quick with wit, Ringo snapped back, "We're a mocker."
