The funny thing is, I feel compelled to read every BGO post, and of late it’s been a struggle to keep up.
 
I actually enjoyed the Tailgate. I like bantering about politics, books, art, culture, etc. I loved the photography thread and rooted for posters successes. It was amazing seeing guys like Spaceman Spiff move from hobbyist to pro. On top of that, everyone knows I like shilling my books :blush:

But most of that we can still do here and I totally get the prohibition on political blather. So, in conclusion, this place is flexible enough to fit almost every shape we need it to be. It probably won't be as vibrant as ES was unless message boards make a huge comeback and we start winning Superbowls, but one of the fun things about ES wasn't the traffic, but the friends I made there. I think that happens more often in small town message boards rather than hot take message boards.

It certainly has ramped up, but I suspect you are feeling dizzy about the increased traffic like Barney Fife seeing twenty cars lined up at a traffic light on main street and thinking that now he knows what New York is like.

Except I’ve lived in New York and know it’s not all it’s cracked up to be :)
 
Ah, there is a time for New York, but to paint the opposite picture. I remember being in New York and talking about how much I liked it, but missed the green. The New Yorkers all said without irony that they had Central Park.

Like Barney Fife doesn't get the energy of the big city. New Yorkers don't necessarily get the ease of trees and lawns and critters.

That said, there is a quality/quantity issue that I wrestle with. I remember often being on ES and seeing the free agency thread move seventy-five posts. I'd click on the thread something big had happened, but nothing had. It was just some ES squabble between posters followed by a lot of fluff posts. So, while activity is a good thing and even stupid posts are fun (Heck, I posted about evil Spock and Bizarro today), traffic for traffic's sake doesn't add all that much.

Trust me I wrestled with it too at times, the GameDay threads were waaaaayyyy overboard, to the point where it was pointless and 3 pages would go by before you could blink.
I also agree that sometimes you'd go 2 or 3 pages of just a couple posters bickering about something stupid and that was annoying as well.
That said the extra traffic was nice in the tailgate, with threads like the random humor as one example, you could be away for a day or two and it could take hours or longer getting caught up but I digress this place is nice, has several very high quality posters and I'll just have to get used to having less content to peruse to kill the time.
 
I think it will pick up win or lose the rest of the way. The quiet has been noticeable this week considering the holiday weekend and that people are out of work. Let’s be honest, most people are most active from work. Slackers. 😉
 
Just one other comment on 'activity' - we allow users to remain 'Invisible', meaning when they are logged in, they can choose not to show up in our 'Members Online' listing. A good number of folks have this turned on. As staff/owners, we can see them but members cannot. So there are always more members online than there may appear to be.
 
I’ll end the debate right now. The best sandwich ever is a nice MLT. Mutton lettuce and tomato, when the mutton is nice and lean and the tomato’s are so perky.

Conn here, longtime ES’er since about 2007. If that site generated revenue I believe they would have referred to me as a “power user”. Or possibly an addict. I must’ve had 40,000 posts there.

Took me a few weeks to really process the grief of losing that community. I knew ya’ll were slowly migrating here, saw it on Reddit and Twitter, but had to take my time. That online home meant a lot to me over the years as a non-local, I’m a Boston area fan raised to be a Washington football nutjob from birth by family. Lemme tell you it was a rough existence to grow up in the heart of New England as the Patriots dominated the sport and Snyder dominated our nightmares. For about a decade I even considered it may be some form of rare, esoteric psychological abuse that my family had signed me up for! I’m sure many can relate.

I’m 35 now, I grew up on the latter years of Darrell Green, but really entered that true independent “oh this is gonna stick, isn’t it” stage of my fandom through ST, Portis, Moss, Cooley and the gang during Gibbs II. And when I went off to college, ES became my home away from home. I never experienced the glory years but I found lots of internet buddies over those 17+ years.

It took me a while to truly get over the fact that we all suffered together for so long, leaning on each other for decades of sports therapy in some aging dusty remnant of Internet past, only to finally be delivered to football franchise normalcy by the Harris-Peters-Quinn-Daniels quad…victory! We’d won, Snyder had sold and all was right in the world, can you believe it?? Is this what the average sports fan feels like all the time? Then, just as things were getting fun…the plug gets pulled and the lights go out.

Life can be like that.

I appreciate how welcoming this crowd has clearly been to us asylum-seekers (in more ways than one :doh1:) and I look forward to exploring the place and trying to set down roots. I see a bunch of familiar names from the more recent day-to-day of ES, and I see lots of people who I remember from my distant posting past who clearly went on their pilgrimage and built this place. Pretty cool.

The OG black background is immediately inviting, but it was seeing the news that we’d hired a new President on the business side to finally replace Wright, and having few people to chop it up with, that made me realize I was ready to seek out the community again. Very happy to see the catch-all news thread for imbedded tweets and such, that’s been my #1 source of Washington football news for a very long time.

Thanks for having me, I left my boots at the door. Hopefully this is a shoes-off sort of joint. :cheers:
