2024/2025 Playoff Standings

Arizona is our biggest challenger. Have won 4 of the last 5 and their schedule is not insanely difficult down the stretch. We are 2 games ahead of every other contender for that final playoff spot.

Pardon my thick skull…but how is Atlanta trailing Seattle? Same record with a better divisional record, conference record, and SOS?

Seahawks beat the Falcons head-to-head in October and, I believe, that has always been the primary tie-breaker for seeding.

I'd be worried about Tampa also. Their schedule is soft down the stretch (Carolina twice, Raiders, and Dallas on the easy side plus New Orleans and Chargers on the tougher side). Since they have the head-to-head over Washington, that one would concern me just as much as Arizona.

If Washington doesn't right the ship, it's all irrelevant. I think they'll need to win at least 3 of the last 5 to guarantee a playoff spot regardless of what happens elsewhere in the NFC.

Yeah, I guess what I'm saying is that at 10-7, with Tampa's schedule and the fact that they are playing pretty well, they could jump Washington if they win 5 of their final 6. Not a given, but not impossible with Carolina twice, Dallas, New Orleans, Las Vegas, and LA. I could see them possibly only dropping one of those.

11 will still get us in. I don't think 10 is enough. Losing yesterday was huge as it would have bought us margin of error. Now we have almost none. Philly is almost a guaranteed L so we have to win every other game.

"paloffs is now"

I think 10 will be enough as long as Tampa finishes with 9 wins. To me, that's the calculus. Washington can tie Arizona and get the berth, but needs to finish ahead of Tampa.

Tampa's schedule down the stretch is cake. They're also getting healthy and heating back up. I have them finishing with 10 wins.

I messed around with the ESPN machine and figured out a not-that-crazy scenario where Wsh vs Dal in the finale determines the 7 seed Yes, DALLAS is still very much in play. Their schedule down the stretch is extremely easy with all losing record teams other than Tampa at home.

Okay so I ran thru the machine again.

10 wins actually has a pretty good chance of getting us in. I'd say at least 75% chance we get in if we win 10. It would require Atlanta losing some games though, but they have a tougher schedule than I thought. We HAVE to beat them though. There is no realistic scenario where we make the playoffs if we lose to Atlanta(unless we somehow win every other game, but that isn't likely). They are also likely gonna need to win that game. Good chance that game gets flexed to either the Saturday or Sunday night slot.

Tampa @ Dallas in Week 16 will be very interesting. We might need Tampa to win or we might need Dallas to win. Its gonna depend on how other results up to that game go.

Carolina is our best friend this last stretch. They have games EVERY WEEK against someone we'll likely need to lose(they play Arizona, Tampa twice, Atlanta, as well as Dallas and Philly). Good thing they're playing much better lately and I think they'll win at least a couple of those games. Carolina is officially our #2 team for the rest of the season.

The NFC West will beat each other up. 10 wins is the ceiling for any of those teams but most run throughs I have the winner finishing with 9. We have direct tie breaker with Arizona so best case for us is if someone else takes the division title, but I actually have Arizona winning the division at 9-8.

There is actually a not crazy scenario where we beat Atlanta in Week 17 and clinch a Wild Card with 9 wins, rendering the finale in Dallas meaningless. Would require a lot of games to go our way though. Best not to think about that.

Goal should be 10 wins. 11 would pretty much guarantee it(as would 12 but I mean lets try to maintain some semblance of reality).

At this point we ignore Minnesota and Green Bay as well. We are conceding that they'll get the 5 and 6 seeds at this point. Minnesota can help us by beating Atlanta. GB helped us by beating San Fran yesterday.

So crazy how quickly things change. Just a few weeks ago, people could dare to dream about a 1-seed and/or hosting multiple playoff games. Now, it's another scrambling and chaotic group of scenarios where Washington likely won't even fully control its own destiny to slide into the lowest seed in the NFC playoffs.

We still control our own destiny and likely will for the remainder of the season.

All bets are off if we lose to the Titans though.

We're effectively 2 games up on the cards, since we beat them head to head. That's the first tiebreaker.
There is not much to worry about regarding the NFC West. They'll send whoever wins the division and they all will beat each other up. I think each team in the division still has at least three division games left. The 9ers are basically done. Injuries and their schedule is murder. I don't see any scenario where they have two teams finish with 10 or more wins. Still until then, root against them, but they're honestly not that much of a factor.

The big team to watch out for really is Tampa, in which case that's why we want Atlanta to lose too so Tampa can take the division and we don't have to worry about them in Wild Card tiebreakers.

I'll say it now: if we beat Atlanta we'll make the playoffs. That's gonna be this year's version of the 2022 Giants game.

I guess we will see...we are in control of our own destiny for at least another week. I wouldn't say that we are "likely" to stay that way for the remainder of the season. Unless you believe we will never slide out of the 7 slot. For a team that has dropped 3 straight (and is one fortunate deflection away from dropping 4 out of their past 5), I don't know that holding a 0.5 game lead is something I'd classify as likely.
