Random Thoughts

61 and have had many broken bones, concussions, stitches, sicknesses and about died 2 times as a kid.
I had had an incredibly healthy life until last winter. In 2 months I was diagnosed with hyper tension, diabetes and prostate cancer. My wife's heart went into AFIB while she was on the operating table about to have her ankle replaced.

The cancer was very treatable, I'm good after only 20 radiation treatments. The diabete was a result of a guy with pre-diabetes saying "fuck it, why don't I get that Hagen Daz?" while at the store. Cancer makes you think this way. I cut that shit out and am now below pre-diabetes. Hyper tension was fixed with meds, one even knocked my tremors down to managable levels.

So yeah been a ride. Caring for your wife after her surgery in April while undergoing cancer treatment really sucks, but we got through it.

Yeah - I'm sure there's not much similarity between being on 2 wheels. But that includes not ending up riding on the pavement if you dump it. So for me that's the primary advantage, but I didn't have to deal with transitioning from a 2 wheeler so there's that... It is definitely fun...

There are a number of guys here who have dealt with health crises including cancer. Real life is sometimes a bitch. Glad it sounds like you and your wife are doing better!

My ride, that's gibbs, Darrell and riggins on the back😁

I'm still a "fuck it" were all gonna die someday no helmet hair on fire kinda rider so if I go silent for no known reason that very well could be why.

I almost hesitiate to call myself a cancer survivor given what so many go through as they fight their battle. I was never really at high risk and my treatment had no side effects. I surprised everyone by being so positive, that's not my nature lately. But it was still a doctor calling to tell you that you have cancer, an experience made worse because you never know where you will be when you get the call. Anyone facing a PET scan who says they have not thought about dying is lying.

I had a friend that had 3 cancers at one time. Prostate, lymphoma and I forget the third. Anyways, he was an alcoholic. They told him to stop drinking during treatment and he said no. The doctors eventually asked him if he could keep it to seven a day. He did and he survived. Crazy.

In season 2 of True Detective, Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) is visiting with his doctor:

Doctor- Burst capillaries, cholesterol terrible, your liver is redlining. Can I ask how much you drink in an average week?

Velcoro- All I can.

For the game last week I made my first pizza at home. I never bothered, figured the store bought sauce and dough would make it taste like those pre-made pizzas they sell which is just north of a frozen pizza. But Google is my friend and I learned if you purchase San Marzano canned tomatoes and simply smash with a potato smasher, mix in fresh basil, garlic, salt and a little sugar you have a FANTASTIC pizza sauce.

I found pizza dough at the local bistro here in Mt Airy. Here lies the problem, I could not roll it out well and I ended up with a deep dish pizza that was not round. But the taste was great. I have learned they sell pre-formed pizza crust too so I'll try that, if it's OK I'll just roll with that as the dough was a pain in the ass and took away the fun.
