Well, having to pick your two best options isn't so bad! They can definitely get one of their two best choices. Yes, it will be nice if that happens. My prediction is the Bears trade #1 to a team that wants Caleb. I think Caleb goes number 1 because that is where his value is, and so another team will be willing to grab him there because they think he will be good for them.

The draft this year will be one of the most exciting in the last 20+ years. I don't say 25, because those first few years you were wondering "Did he figure it out" and then it was like, OK what garbage will they do now? I am not saying it was always "SO" bad (obviously not when Gibbs was here) but when it was Snyderatto, my goodness. The worst was the landmark Fred Davis / Malcolm Kelly / Devin Thomas of 2008 of course.

We have a GM who can look at our new OC and DC, maybe even... TALK to them... and THEN make a plan? Snyderatto, the Marties with Ron/JDR, it never had that look or feel. The personnel talent did not match the usage. This already has a completely different feeling to it.

Well what's also comical about this is UNC runs Air Raid so both Howell and Maye have experience. So as is often the case with stats and data, "if you look, you will find" and can justify whatever story you want.
 
I think regardless of what they do at QB in the draft, I imagine the starter next season is Sam or a Vet they bring in. In the world of following this process, there is little value in putting a rookie QB behind at best, a partially rebuilt OL in week 1. Could see a Rookie sitting anywhere from a mid-season/late-season bye week....to the Mahommes process of an entire year one.
 
Maybe I'm weird but all the dots do not tie together with Kingsbury and Williams.

1. Kingsbury has been with the USC program for 1 year. That's it.
2. Kingsbury is listed on the USC website as "Senior Offensive Analyst" and that's it. I have seen it reported a few places that he is also the QB coach but I can't find anything official to that end.
3. Jon Jenson is listed as the USC Offensive Coordinator and Lincoln Riley, the head coach, apparently calls the offense during the game.

Now, to play Devil's Advocate - for those noting that UNC runs the Air Raid offense, so does USC. At least a version of it. Lincoln Riley was a QB under Leach at Texas Tech before starting his coaching career there on the offensive side of the ball. That likely means that Williams has been running Riley's form of Leach's offense there at USC.
 
Washington needed a quarterback mentor as well as a play-caller and Kingsbury fit the bill on both counts.

We still need a quarterbacks coach but Kingsbury's influence will be key in terms of scheme and assessing how much to put on a younger quarterbacks plate to swallow at any one time.

Andy Reid in fact did bring Mahomes along at good pace in re today's game. He sat for an entire season watching Alex Smith, a professional quarterback, prepare for and perform at a level where the team won 10 games and made the playoffs.

Reid then traded Smith and gave Mahomes a clean slate without having to look over his shoulder to see if he was going to get the hook if he had a bad game, etc.

Reid didn't throw Mahomes to the wolves.

We need that kind of plan in 2024 for a new qb coming in.

If we need to start Sam Howell for X number of games to start the season then that's fine.

The outcome we want is a capable starting quarterback to lead the team for the next 10 years, not an instant star.

Do you keep any of Rivera's staff?

I'm thinking Nate Kaczor may have a chance at keeping Special Teams.

I might keep Kerrigan as an Asst Defensive Position coach.
 
I’m stoked about this staff.

There’s so much that goes into your side of the ball being successful, and the org as a whole being successful. I see people nitpicking careers and the list of things required to correctly frame context of each of them is so long it’s not even worth trying to have that discussion (to me)

There are good coaches that flamed out somewhere else before being a good coach. Hall of fame coaches even. Bill Belicheck is one of them… there are great coordinators that flame out as head coaches but are still great coordinators.

What I see is a bunch of guys with really good reputations and some good things to go along with the bad people are focusing on, being put together by an owner we hope is going to be incredibly supportive in getting them what they need to be successful. What I see is a good thing.
 
I loved a lot of things I heard from Dan Quinn today.

A) He spoke directly about his first experiences as a head coach and what he's learned from them
B) He is amped to be here and get that 2nd chance. I never heard intensity like that from Rivera - not even on day 1.
C) He and Adam Peters clearly have gotten off to a good start together
D) 'Explosiveness' and 'Physicality' - hell just the fact that he identified actually having a team identity

I could go on and on....

I got emotional and I really don't know why. I guess it's the realization that it's really going to be a new beginning with all new folks leading the charge. Now if they'd just change that damn name it would be a perfect do-over.

Dan Quinn needs to figure out a way to poach John Fassel from Dallas. He might be the best Special Teams Coordinator in the NFL. I can't think of how they could 'promote' him though to make it a possibility... :)

Probably. I think they could get Al Harris if only because whoever they hire as DC to replace Quinn may have his own guy he wants. The biggest vacancy now in my book is QBs coach. I would assume that'll be 100% on Kingsbury but no idea who he might have in mind for that role?
 
I agree on special teams.

Our units there haven’t been special in a long time.

We don’t get breakout punt returns, we do t block kicks.

The only thing that covers it up is pro bowl punter Tress Way, who can help this team win the field position game.
