The way I read that is that Harris and Myers just sat in for the first 60 minutes. 😉
 
To me, the order of the interview process is perfectly fine if that is the way it went. 1st interviews are rarely about details when the contracts are this big. If your on the radar and get a first...details are not the issue. The main thing I would assume that interview was about was what type of person are we talking to. Put the pressure on by having the owner ask the questions. Harris doesn't want to sit in on the details of what the person will do as the coach, he wants to know who is behind the face of the franchise. Harris has his consultent who he trusts his opinion and they sit and chat around the fireplace and get a little insight on the candidate. Harris then pays Peters to get the details and determine if this guy can be succesful.

Accountability comes from being clear as to when you become responsibile for the decisions. In this case....he passes Harris test with 'I could invest in him' . Now, good start, go sell that you can be our football coach to the guys who make th choice.

Again, assuming the order was this way in the talks.
 
I liken this to when I interviewed for my current job. My first interview was with the gal who was hiring and who I work for now. She is in no way technical and was interviewing me to see if I'd be a good fit for the company in general and her org in particular. Then I interviewed with two quasi-technical guys - both are in management but run teams with deep technical knowledge. My last interview was with the Global VP of Sales (my manager's boss) who was also checking me for fit - things like personality, how I carried myself in the interview, etc.

The order of things was a little different for Washington's HC search but they were checking all the same boxes with mostly people in the same kind of roles.
 
I think we all learned a big lesson from this hiring cycle.

The younger coaches coming off the Shanahan tree from his Washington days seemed to be the exceptions to the rule.

These guys like McVay, O'Connell and LaFleur in their mid-30's knew where they wanted to go with their careers and managed themselves in a professional manner to get there as quickly as possible.

But not every coach is ready at that age to take on that kind of responsibility.

And because of the lack of awareness of how they are perceived a guy like Ben Johnson not only turns himself around with doubt and uncertainty about what he wants to do but then acts unprofessionally when he panics and doesn't really see how to communicate these feelings to others.
 
If we were playing buzz-word bingo as a drinking game, we all would have been drunk before Dan Quinn said his first word. LOL

He learned from the Peters presser.

Yeah, they zoomed in so it wasn't visible. Probably not 'planned' but who knows? Harris definitely avoided using it - no question about that.
 
I loved Harris answer to JP FInlay's version of my question about how much 'collaborating' he was going to do going forward. Basically, he said he hired these guys to do their jobs, starting now. Perfect response.
 
So not "taking command" but a tactical retreat from the name.

Pretty good presser. I do like how he talked team and structure.
 
The commanders name was only visible until actual humans sat at the table then all that was seen was washington

Yup. Was definitely a grown up in the room. No need to bad mouth Bienemy or make excuses. Just a professional parting of the ways and he wished him well.
