Your Head Coach preference?

There are some interesting things being said. A Ravens reporter has stated that Macdonald is good with 1-on-1 interactions but struggles in larger settings, perhaps noticed from some press interactions. There are some indications that his abilities as an HC may be more limited, at least right now.

Also - as for EB - I wasn't suggesting (yet) they were looking at him for HC. The concern I have heard in some friend circles is that EB could get hired to stay on as OC if they end up with a defensive minded HC. I don't know if I buy that at all - but IF EB stays on in any shape, I will certainly be soured on the organization's decision process. I am going to reserve final judgement on their decision process until we see true observables; that would be a true observable. I don't mind (obviously!) going into speculation right now, but we won't have any true observables until after the new HC (assuming it isn't a commodity we know already) makes some moves. Then we can say, OK, their hiring process was potentially OK/broken/whatever.

I would be leery of having EB be in charge of a quarterback taken at #2.

2023 was not a year in which this team got the most out of its personnel on offense.

The quarterback regressed significantly rather than improve as the season went on.

There didn't seem to be a recognizable progression in re his workload and comfortability in the system from the opener through the final game of the season.

Brian Robinson Jr. was under-utilized all season. Antonio Gibson was under-utilized.

The entire scheme seemed like something EB took off the shelf from KC and brought here and went page by page as Reid would have done.

The last guy to do that was Jim Zorn. Remember?

He brought with him all the X's and O's that Mike Holmgren had run early in his coaching career under Bill Walsh and expected to run those plays here in 2008.

Dallas media seems to think Quinn is getting the Washington job.

96.7 talking about replacing him and what Lawrence and Parsons said about Quinn after last season ended.

Yeah, I think I'd go for Vrabel over Quinn. To be fair, Quinn really turned around Dallas' D, but I'd rather not go with a retread. I'd consider Quinn a C-level hire.

I hope we get Mike MacDonald. Second choice would be Bobby Slowik but it seems unlikely.
Mike’s defense shut down Detroit this year. And did a fine job against Mahomes and the Chiefs.

I’ve wondered myself why no Vrabel interview. And these days, I don’t think you can interview a guy in secret. Maybe you can and it’s really a secret. But an interview now would seem like a pity interview of “we didn’t get who we really wanted, so please come work for us”.

Quinn was the DC for both of Seattle's Super Bowl teams in the 2010's and got to one as HC.

I am not a Quinn backer but he looks better than Vrabel, who ran a 1980's ground and pound offense in Tennessee.

If we used the #2 pick on a QB and decide to let EB run things then I very well may have lost faith in ownership before their first season begins

I made a post a few days ago that it’ll be a while before I’m willing to be critical of Harris but I really am not sure how anyone can suggest EB as a quality coach with a straight face.

At this point, I can't give any credence to media thoughts/rumors. The majority thought Johnson was the dude and that apparently wasn't that close.

The hate towards Johnson I’m seeing in some places is such low rent nonsense that screams never had to make a big decision before.

Job changes are incredibly difficult decisions when you like where you are.

And while we all hope Harris will be a great owner, and Peters will be a great GM, there’s absolutely nothing guaranteeing any of that. It could be 10+ years before Harris figures out how to build a winner - and as we saw with Snyder it’s possible to go 25 and never figure it out. While I’d like to think of our situation as a potential dream one (new owner, new GM, #2 pick, potentially have some talent in need of better coaching, incredibly low bar with fans) it may also look like a dumpster fire with an unknown at the helm. We have awful facilities, the team is financial ruin, and our GM is a first time GM.

Anyways. He has no reason to believe his stock will not continue to rise. If something didn’t feel right, then I totally get it. Maybe he just feels there’s unfinished business (not in the way it for PR purposes sense, but in the actually feels that way sense.)

I totally get it and don’t have any hard feelings. And if he’s in consideration at a future date I won’t hold it against him.

If over the course of two years I’ve had multiple big time job opportunities, and I felt good about where I was, I’d absolutely make sure that when I do make the leap it’s for a situation i feel great about.

Right, but really who expected a guy to either ask for $15M or chicken out on taking the new job?

McDaniels did something even worse with the Colts but then again he hasn't made a good decision other than to hold onto Belichick's coattails and call plays for the greatest quarterback in the Super Bowl era.

In 1981, Bobby Beathard hired Joe Gibbs, the offensive coordinator on the most prolific offense in the NFL in San Diego, and the Chargers had been in the AFC title game twice in the previous three years. He was 38, Johnson is 37.

The bottom line is Johnson is not a leader. Leaders don't treat other NFL people the way he treated the Washington executives.

Time to move on to hiring a MAN and not a boy

I don't begrudge Johnson at all. He may have even been honest with Harris and Peters. The only thing that bugs me a bit is they were supposed to fly over to Detroit tonight and this news broke this afternoon. If Johnson knew what he wanted and didn't want he shouldn't waste their time.

True, but it was a bush league move by Johnson. He could have reasoned this out and given at least 24 hours notice.

Now that we know how he and his agent operate, I am glad he's not coming here.

He's 37 but not mature like Sean McVay and Kyle Shanahan.

He's more in the mode of Josh McDaniels, good behind the scenes working under a strong head coach but not confident as a leader who knows his own mind.

The pulling out of the run when the team was already in the air was not a good move. He should have either told them before they left or passed after the interview. But I don't begrudge him not wanting to be a head coach at this time
