The Name Change Thread

not sure what you're confused by

In my brain, regardless of what happened, no matter how many people stood up, it was never going to go back. If nothing else because of the fact that 'we' don't matter as much as the sponsors, and they would not go back on their move of pulling out. The NFL would never let it go back. Josh Harris would not change it back because he likely does not want to do anything that anyone would be negative about at this point.

So, since I don't believe it's ever got a real chance of going back, i'm glad someone came out and said it was off the table, just to put the argument to bed so fans can move on from that hope that it's even possible.
 
I'm confused at the fact you'd say you're glad it's over instead of hoping for it to be something that could happen. Makes no sense to me whatsoever. You've got all these reasons why you think it wouldn't go back and not one thought of why it could. It feels defeatist to me.

Oh well. Y'all got your wish. I'm just shocked to see how many people actually were so quick to give up any hope.
 
You believed it could happen. I didnt. I'd rather someone come out and say it's off the table now, than hear a debate for the next 18 months about a new name and it be some sort of a let down when this was never actually on the table.
 
I would never give up hope on something I wanted. Regardless of all the negative people saying it isn't possible.

But, y'all do you. It's no longer a reality apparently because that bitch ass Wright said so. Congratulations.

There is no reason ‘it could’. The only people that could change it back just officially said they won’t. Ever. How much clearer can it be than that?

He just said it. Harris and magic both were saying Redskins and talking about going back to glory before then. You may not want to see it, but I did. You have no say in what I believe or think.

I took it as a chance it could go back. You didn't. It doesn't make me wrong.
 
nor does it make me wrong for thinking it couldn't.. and saying 'congratulations, yall got what you wanted' after essentially telling me to let go of my past and sell my gear aint exactly the way to go about it
 
Why are you personalizing this? We are all friends here. No one would begrudge you feeling however you feel. I think there are times on life where we don’t get what we want and it is beyond our control. At some point the choice is to make the best of it or beat your head against the wall. You can feel however you want, no one has said you can’t.
 
You let go of it on your own. Nobody forced you to say you were glad the fight to try and go back was over. You got what you wanted. Any chance is dead now. I also didn't tell you to sell your gear . I asked if you were going to since you're glad it's over. Y'all looooooove jumping on me whenever I post here about it going back but hate when I do it back. Welp, that's the way it goes.

When you get aggressive with the "how much clearer can it get?' You make it personal. I've made it very clear since my first post I wanted it to change back. I've never hidden that. You've loved trying to tell me to give it up and that it would never happen. You've been trying this whole time to tell me that it wasn't a possibility and basically stop wishing for it because of that.

I'll "beat my head against a wall" as long as I want. If I believe it could happen it's not that way to me. If we are truly friends you wouldn't try to tell me to give up hope. You'd be ok with me doing what I wanted as long as it wasn't harming you or this site. Which it wasn't until it got personal.

When I express dissatisfaction with Rick Snyder this is exactly the type of thing I mean. I listened to the interview and it is not what Wright said at all. He didn’t say no to a name change, he said no to Redskins returning. He reiterated the company line of the 3 biggest priorities, that doesn’t mean that a future name change is out of the question.

Rick is one day going to hurt himself patting himself on the back and his transparent attempts to paint himself as an insider with sources is becoming sad.

(Yes, that is a lot of himself-s for one sentence.)

I think he was specifically talking about going back to ‘Redskins’ but yeah, he is sloppy and not very precise with his words at times (he and Rivera would get along well). Wright has already gone on record as saying another ‘rebranding’ is possible.

I’ve never for one minute thought a return to ‘Redskins’ was on the cards, and to be honest I always saw the use of the name by Harris and do as more of an effort to embrace the history of the team.
Where Snyder was always hardline ‘Never changing the name!’ right up until he did, once the change happened it was almost like Redskins was a word with bad mojo. They almost never referenced it. Oh, he loved to use our history as a stick to beat us fans with in the hopes we’d think he cared, but it was always seemingly detached from the name.

Harris’s group don’t seem afraid to embrace our history INCLUDING the name. He’ll wear the logo, he’ll refer to the team by its historic name. I think it’s more to prove to us that he’s a fan and understands us as fans. He knows we love Redskins, and while he won’t bring it back, he won’t shy from it either.

Now that could be a cynical calculated move, but it’s also an agreeable one. It would not surprise me at all if we see the uniforms tweaked to be closer to our heritage at some point in the future. And I also wouldn’t be surprised if we rebrand to something more fan friendly.
 
I don't think anyone here believed he was 'speaking for himself', but confirmation he was sharing the owners position...

Like it or not Washington is not going back to Redskins, ever.

In my own mind the football team here is representing the DMV and whatever they want to call themselves is secondary to putting a quality product on the field and moving away from years of being a laughingstock around the league.

My concerns now are what Montez Sweat is going to do in a contract year and how good McLaurin can be with a legitimate arm throwing him the ball over 17 games.

Jason Wright is an administrator and is a spokesperson for the ownership group. As such, he is only delivering the message Harris wants delivered.

I read his quotes and moved on to see if we were going to sign a veteran guard after final cutdowns :cool:
