2023 - OTA/Camp thread

Hope this is because of how well Paul is playing and not because of the shortcomings of the guys ahead of him

A lot of folks on social media giving Rivera love for the comments. Sorry, but Rivera's schtick just gets increasingly lame. Just do your job and leave the cheerleading to someone who knows how to do it. I'm pretty much over Ron at this point.

I get it, I really do. But the whole ‘oh, now we can really succeed’ campaign by Wright and Rivera is nauseating.

But I will eat a Snickers, just to make sure it’s not the low blood sugar talking. And the irony of you giving me a pep talk is not lost on me :)

I understand. I just look at that as standard coach speak to a crowd on fan day. They all do it.

I'm tired of hearing it too but it's part of the show on Fan Day.

I think it’s more the words he used regarding fans that I found irritating. But you are right, this is a great time for Skins fans so I’ll gladly eat a Snickers…

Is Dan Snyder still the owner?

That should perk things up a little bit...right?

Either Boone is talking to himself or someone has me on ignore.

I'm leaning towards Boone being crazy

Commanders ain’t messing around. I think they had to make a point for someone broadcasting from the team facility as the official broadcasting partner. I think it was a bit of a big reaction, but I 100% understand the severity of the move

I'm not completely writing him off, but honestly he was a camp darling last year too. Means nothing until he shows he can excel in real games and I know I'm not telling anyone anything they don't already know. :co-obvious:
I think part of it is just getting on the field.

Last year he had 5 catches on 14 targets, which sounds like he isn't catching the ball but he didn't have a single drop. 2 of those 5 catches went for TDs.
The year before (rookie season) he had 12 receptions on 25 targets with 1 drop and no TDs.

I think he might turn into something but he is going to have to show up with limited opportunities McLaurin, Samuel, and Dotson are obviously ahead of him on the depth chart.

Interestingly enough, 'drops' is not an official NFL stat meaning it's not even tracked or defined. Media outlets subjectively define them (for example ESPN defines a drop as 'a pass that should have been caught without extraordinary effort'. I think the reason the NFL doesn't track it is because you can't *assign* it to an individual with any kind of certainty. Was the ball catchable? How do you determine if it was or wasn't? Did the WR run the correct route? Did the QB thrown the correct pass type per play design and call? There are just too many variables.

On Brown, as Neo said, I don't think you can make much of a determination on anything - as he said the sample size is just too small. We know he's fast. The only major knocks on him coming out of college (per draft profiles) were that he was 'more fast than quick', wasn't a great route runner, and that his hands needed work. You can certainly improve 2/3 of those with hard work. His biggest challenge is playing time with some amazing talent in front of him.

Fair point on Drops, Boone.

For the record, those stats came from Pro Football Reference but I have no clue how they define a Drop.

I would think that a coaching staff that focuses so deeply on analytics, like Rivera’s, would have a drops measure. 😉

I have always found it strange when teams skip a training camp practice on Sunday. It seems to me that Saturday and Sunday are prime fan days. Take Monday off instead.

it's a closed practice today.. no fans, so I don't think their motivation is exposure.

I fear that not signing Curl to an extension this offseason is something we are going to live to regret.
