CB Emmanuel Forbes (Miss. St.) - 1st round pick (16)

My son was ... displeased with this pick. :)

I told him that perhaps the fact that the team didn't draft a QB in the first round tells us something. Sticking with a mid-round un-heralded young guy like Howell at QB is a coach's move, pure and simple. It is not in any way, shape or form, a Dan Snyder move. If they had traded up to get Young or Stroud or something, or even stayed put and taken the QB there ... that's Snyder.

I don't know if this kid at CB is any good. None of know stuff like that on draft day. What I do think, is that it's POSSIBLE there is now an overall philosophy the team is adopting, and this kid fits it.

That's how I'm going to spin it today.

That said, if they don't take a guard in the second round things are gonna get ugly over here. :)

Most of my draft day jokes, I’ve used on Levis. But yeah, that one was a good one.

They first offered him Nrandon Banks old jersey, but it hung too loose.

I'm not a fan of the pick, but I support people on my team. So....hail to the Redskins

I hope the NFL gig works out for Forbes - because public speaking isn't in his future :)

Good media scrum interview with new DB coach Brent Vieselmeyer on Forbes.

I really never watch those fluff pieces the team puts out, but for some reason I decided to watch this one. Maybe it was because I had made up my mind before the draft that this kid was destined to fail in the NFL for one reason and one reason alone ... that his legs are too skinny to hold up over time ... that I felt I owed him (and myself) the effort. That concern unfortunately will always linger, but hopefully as time and games go by and he keeps showing up it will abate.

That part aside, I loved this whole vid. Slick production, yeah, but damn--what a great kid he seems to be. I am reminded, yet again, that all my pre-draft impressions of players are based essentially on surface stuff--youtube highlights, draft analysis snippets from "insiders and experts," etc. To get a peek behind the curtain and get "in the room" even for a few minutes starts to turn a two-dimensional internet impression of a young man into an actual human being. Plus it reminds me, yet again, that when a team decides to draft a guy, particularly this high, it is based on so much more information and actual intel than I have it's not even close.

I will TRY to remember all of that next year. And surely fail.

Welcome to DC, EF. Go get it.

Gotta be honest - I'm so tired of Rivera's schtick at this point - I couldn't get through it, lol.
