The Bombshell

Here are some different ways that might help you envision the enormousness of 7 billion:

– Seven billion seconds ago, the year was 1789. That was the year George Washington was inaugurated as the first U.S. president and Congress met for the very first time.

– If you took 7 billion steps along the Earth’s equator – at 2 feet per step – you could walk around the world at least 106 times.

– Suppose an average thimble holds 2 milliliters of water. Seven billion of those thimbles would fill at least five Olympic-sized swimming pools.

– Let’s say the average human is about 5 feet tall, accounting for children. If you stack those 7 billion people end to end, they would reach about 1/14th of the way to the sun – or 27 times the distance to the moon, Volpert said.

– Seven billion ants, at an average size of 3 milligrams each, would weigh at least 23 tons (46,297 pounds).

And yet, it only take Congress six hours to come up with seven billion bad ideas ;)

A. I don't trust any media 'news' on this front as we've had nothing but conflicting information so far.
B. There's only one reason why Dan Snyder would sell this team - and that's because he has no choice. So I am not worried that it 'won't ultimately happen'. I am totally convinced it's been made clear to him, sell or we'll force you to sell. And he's in a lot better financial position if it's voluntary. As for the 7 Billion dollar pricetag, I suspect that's just posturing by Snyder henchmen (ie... attorneys) to max out the offers. Ultimately, if it costs $7 billion for someone like Bezos to finalize this, I am pretty confident he writes the check.

I just finished eating. What was the upshot…that Dan still might slither out of selling?

To me it was that there have been only 2 bidders and those bids are both under 6b and that the principals may be incapable of coming up with the 25% required, though there are also reports of a 6.3b bid so… It looks like there is no feeding frenzy.

So, yeah, maybe. I’ll believe in the sale when the ink is dry.

I think there is too much smoke around Jeff Bezos. He and his wife publicly implied they would love to own an NFL franchise. If at some point he had decided that this one wasn't the right opportunity, I sort of assume he'd likely have said so. That is an assumption though :)

But you're right. On one day, we hear that $6.3 billion is the top offer so far, then 2 days later it's two offers at $6 billion (but they are struggling to come up with the cash). I'm very skeptical of anything mainstream media puts out there as they seem to just be parroting whatever the latest rumor out there is.

I agree as to Bezos. It would be easy for him to say he doesn’t have interest but he hasn’t. Yet.

As Rick Snider said, don’t trust any reports now because all ‘leaks’ at this point will be driven by ulterior motives.

That being said, if you take the position that we have no idea what's going on behind the scenes (and that's my position), you also have to account for the possibility that Bezos won't make a bid at all and that this possibility was exaggerated from the start. We'll see. One thing I am sure of - if the highest bid turns out to be $6 billion, there's no way Dan Snyder is turning that down. It would be the biggest franchise sale price in sports history.

I hope you’re correct.

Though I always, always, ALWAYS expect Daniel Snyder to do Daniel Snyder things.

We need a 'that scares the hell out of me' emoji...

Dan Snyder botching the sale of the team? But he was so masterful at getting a stadium deal!

It would be peak Snyder if he was forced into accepting a sale price that was the equivalent of a compensatory third round draft pick.

There seems to be some renewed Bezos buzz based on Robert Kraft's statements, but like Neophyte's said, it feels like all like guesswork and hopes. Snyder failing to be able to sell the team and get a good price would be about as laughable as it is predictable.

I would take a lot of joy in Snyder getting pennies on the dollar for the sale of the team. But the value of a franchise is a mark of prestige that I think the new owner wants to have.

From The Athletic this weekend. I didn't think I realized the nuanced described here that the current bids aren't binding but initial interest. Later in the article that did state that some investment banks allow new bidders to come into the process when it's time to get to the contractual bid.
