Snyder Approaches BOA on Prospective ‘Team Sale’

I guess my only hesitation at this point with Byron Allen would be with our team possibly being envisioned solely as a vehicle for his stated mission to fight the ongoing dearth of big-money black-owned businesses, and not about putting a winner on the field. Ideally, it would be both--that I could certainly celebrate.
 
I imagine the first black owner would feel a tremendous pressure to be a winner. Most of these guys are driven. Even Snyder was at the beginning. I can't imagine anyone buying an NFL team as a cash cow and be content with it being a perennial loser/laughing stock.

But I have been known to be naive.

I know you are just reposting a tweet, but that’s some sweet 4th hand info right there. I remember one time someone telling me they heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who heard it from another that someone was messing around.

That convo may be true because it fits what we are hearing, but that’s so far away from the source of the conversation. I just laugh at these things.

I look at stuff like this slant-eyed myself, but it makes for interesting reading just the same.
 
I think a strong preference (for fans at least) would be a principal owner that now lives in DC or has some tie to the area.

Having an owner that lives full-time in LA or NY and treats the team as an 'asset' rather than a passion isn't ideal.

Allen evidently was in on the Broncos deal and so appears to be dragging his ownership consortium from team to team until he posts the high bid.

So, I would rather have a guy like Bezos that may not be from here but now lives in the DC area and owns other local businesses.

Not to spend too much time worrying about alleged distasteful behavior of one possible ownership candidate ... this is from the same article:

Bezos' attorney, Harry Korrell, tells TMZ, "We have investigated the claims, and they lack merit. Ms. Wedaa made over six figures annually and was the lead housekeeper. She was responsible for her own break and meal times, and there were several bathrooms and breakrooms available to her and other staff."

He continues, "The evidence will show that Ms. Wedaa was terminated for performance reasons. She initially demanded over $9M, and when the company refused, she decided to file this suit. Given their backgrounds, the suggestion that Mr. Bezos, Ms. Sanchez, or Northwestern LLC discriminated against Ms. Wedaa based on her race or national origin is absurd."
 
OK. I don't know what the truth is with these big tech guys, they seem to be visible targets for a lot of suits and rumors.

Reports alleged Bill Gates is a child molester, Steve Jobs was a narcissistic megalomaniac who drove his staffers to the point of suicide, Elon Musk is a sexist serial philanderer who once fought his ex-partner for a $100 chair in a settlement, Larry Ellison ruined the careers of a number of Oracle employees he fired and then blackballed, etc.

Is it all true? All false? 50% of one or the other?
 
We also heard Snyder say it was all BS, too. Can you imagine how screwed he'd be if his lawyer was like "yeah, Jeff is a racist and an asshole. He probably did it".
 
True. But I hope the search for a new owner doesn't become like recent Supreme Court nominees where people come forward 30-40 years after the fact to allege something harmful and something the person really has no defense to other than to say they didn't do it.
 
What I was suggesting was that it might be a little early to start lending credence to unsubstantiated warts on possible, uncommitted ownership candidates for a team possibly being sold.
 
Agreed there. I'm just adding on to my question from last night having little knowledge of the dude.

My comment about billionaires… it’s like hospitals… there is not a hospital in the US that isn’t being sued by multiple parties at any given time. Sometimes bad things happen and it’s no one’s ‘fault’ but people need to find blame or they see a potential cash cow.

I think it’s the same with the uber rich. Doesn’t mean none of them actually are scumbags or guilty, but the nature of wealth is that people are going to come after it.

No offense to Byron Allen but he ‘seems’ more interested in empire building (money, power, influence, legacy, etc) and there is nothing wrong with that.

I would rather a single individual with more than enough liquid means and the desire to maximize professional success over all else.
 
Timeline of the Sale of an NFL franchise -

Denver Broncos -2022
Feb 1, 22 - the CEO of the Broncos officially announces the trust of former own Pat Bowlen is putting the team up for sale - hope to have it completed by the start of the 2022 Season
June 6, 22 - the Broncos announced that they have entered into an agreement with the Walton-Pennar Family to purchase the team for $4.65 Billion (Jeff Bezos was involved in the bidding and was reportedly willing to go to $5 Billion but felt Walton would continue to outbid him so dropped out to keep from driving up the price of the next team to hit the market).
Aug 8, 22 - the sale is approved by a unanimous vote of the NFL owners completing the process of purchasing the team.

Carolina Panthers - 2018
Feb, 2018 - Panthers announce the team is for sale
May 15, 2018 - Panthers announce that they have entered into an agreement with David Tepper to purchase the team for $2.2 Billion
May, 2018 - the sale is approved by the NFL owners
July 9, 2018 - the sale of the team is finalized following Tepper divesting himself of a 5% stake in the Steelers that he had held for 9 years

Buffalo Bills - 2014
March, 2014 - Bills become available for purchase following the death of owner and founder Ralph Wilson (95)
Sept 8, 2014 - Bills announce that they have entered into an agreement with Terry and Kim Pegula for a purchase price of $1.2 Billion (other parties reportedly interested in purchasing included Jon Bon Jovi and Donald Trump)
Sept 17, 2014 - it is reported that the Pegula's have been approved by the NFL Finance Committee
Oct 8, 2014 - the sale is approved by a unanimous vote of the NFL owners

The rough average of these 3 team transactions is 6.5 months. If the sale of the Commanders follows this pattern, we would be looking at having a new owner in the late April/early May time frame. The caveat I can think of for this is that the league year starts in March and there might be a push among the owners to have this completed by that date.

The bulk of the time in each of the above sales was consumed by the bidding process.
