Your overall point is a very valid one....

Darrell Green is actually the Associate Atheletic Director at George Mason University, so he's got a career after football, but he's not in the majority of players that get that type of an opportunity.



To support your original point even further, players don't see anywhere NEAR the total value of their contrac, not even the fully guaranteed ones.

between paying taxes in the jurisdiction THE GAME is being played, union dues, and equipment expenses, there is serious money being spent.

THAT doesn't include the Agent who, in the NFL is capped at 3%.


Now NOBODY is going to hear me crying about a millionare having to pay the necessary expenses, but a 4 year $3.85M deal (hypothetically fully guaranteed) might see about $2M of that. $2M is not generational money. To make it deeper, the Player has ZERO control once they sign a contract. If the team 'decides' to go in a different direction, they can be released from that contract with zero penalty outside of a 'dead money' cap hit that the player has already recieved. The player simply does not have the same power. They have not 'out' other than playing hard ball, which usually puts them in a negative likeness with a fanbase. The player can 'demand' a trade, but if there isn't a 'no trade' clause in the contract, they have no 'real' control over where they get traded to... meanwhile the team can dictate based on the deal they choose.

I'm in the camp of 'get what you can while you can' because players have little actual control, and it all can end on any given play.

Realistically speaking, I think that long-term we should expect to maybe keep two of the big four upfront on the d-line, given some of the other priority players we are going to want to have around elsewhere on the roster. Obviously Allen is one of them. Out of Young, Sweat, and Payne, who is going to be the other to step up and earn that contract? I personally found it really interesting to learn that we are meeting with Perrion Winfrey - he is a projected day 2 guy in the draft at DT. Could we expect to see one of our d-linemen traded during the draft? I am not saying it is going to happen, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised. There are going to have to be some hard decisions to make - I personally can't see both Terry and Payne being locked down going into '23, especially given the money that Vita Vea recently signed for.

Sweat is coming up at the end of this year?
Payne is someone I like, but I don't know if he stays
Young has a few years left and coming off injury

I don't want to see another Preston Smith, Trent Murphy, Ionnidas, or Lorenzo Alexander happen here. We need vets and guys who could be here potentially career long.

I wonder. I'm still going back and forth on my prediction that we take him... I'm going back and forth mentlaly about Collins (who's still a free agent btw) and whether they want to have that Buffalo Nickle type player as a consistent piece of the defense, or if they integrated that simply to try and get the most out of their $20M SS...
 
I hear ya, though I do t think we can go wrong taking him. It would seem that #11 will go to either WR or CB/S. My uneducated guess on Collins still unsigned would be he’s still insisting he’s a safety to teams, when the proof’s in the pudding.

I know people are interpreting his reasoning, but if that’s why he is sitting out, that’s a problem. He can get hurt literally doing anything. The Reuben Foster situation is completely different. But you can get hurt in practice, a game, a workout, or just walking around your house. I don’t think he’s playing or living in fear of an injury.

These holdouts in OTAs are the only leverage players have these days. We are seeing this more and more with guys and contracts. I’m not worried right now and if this is what it takes for him to get a contract, then I’ll take it. If his hold out stretches into camp or worse into games, then I’ll be worried.

I think Collins coming back is a longshot. Hard for any player having tested the market to come back to the team that told him 'you aren't worth that much' to swallow hard and realize it might have been the best situation for him. It does happen, but not sure this is such a great destination he'll come to that conclusion.

The bigger question in my mind is whether Washington goes defense AGAIN for a 3rd straight draft?

Even if Hamilton is availabe at 11, I'm not sure it's a given they take him. They'll want to give Wentz weapons.

I think for that reason they might pass on Hamilton and go WR.

I wasn't meaning we bring him back... more that we're not the only ones that don't think he's worth what he thinks he's worth....

The rest of the league saw the same things we did sitting at home watching on TV. The first half of the season he was playing way out of position, and once moved into that hybrid role he showed up. He also supposedly made it clear he was not interested in doing that going forward, but he's not on a team and not slated to collect a check at this time. It continues to make me wonder about whether we keep that role in this defense, or if it was an adaptation.
 
Hamilton would be the ONLY defensive player I’d personally take at 11. It’s a true position of need and his adaptability could open up some new wrinkles for JDR to utilize. If I’m in the war room I’d have Hamilton’s name preprinted on a card with the runner already stretched and limbered up.

Regarding Collins this past season, I’ve gotta give JDR props for using him in that new role. LC really thrived in it down the stretch. It’s pretty damn rare our staff thinks outside the box in exploring a different approach that helps the player produce, especially position tweaks.

This is why athletes and sports talking heads should stay in their lane and not try to be medical experts. Using the patellar tendon from the opposite leg to repair a torn ACL is standard practice for pro athletes as it heals faster and once fully healed is 1.5x stronger than the original ACL.

Not sure who you're mad at here

I heard the interview and Logan Thomas was ASKED about Chase's recovery and how it aligned with his (also coming off a blown knee), and his response was along the lines of "he had surgery a month before me, but we had different injuries, they used his patella from the other leg... etc"

It was a passing comment about why they're on different timelines, not trying to be a medical expert, and it was in response to a question... not going out of his way to speak to it.
