The Offense!

we all kinda knew it but this is in big bold ink. I personally think this is the area we could see the most dramatic change this season with new QB play and weapons...

I'll be interested in seeing if Carter ends up returning kicks for us. It's going to be a really crowded room so if you want to elevate yourself past Harmon / AGG / Sims / Sims you're gonna need to contribute as a returner. I don't see McLaurin / Samuel / Humphries being a full time returner (maybe the random spark plug return for Samuel), nor do I want them to be. Being able to not only just 'handle' those duties, but be a weapon goes a long way to making the roster. I can't see Carter AND S. Sims making it onto the final roster... will be an interesting battle in camp.

Deandre Carter - right? He has bounced around the league, but he is definitely a talented KR. Can't see how he breaks into this roster though - just way too much talent he'd have to overcome. Thanks for posting Mike - I had no idea he was even signed.

I imagine at least one of the Sims are gone.

Just for context, here is our current WR room:

Terry McLaurin
Curtis Samuel
Adam Humphries
Kelvin Harmon
Antonio Gandy-Golden
Dax Milne
Dyami Brown
Cam Sims
Stephen Sims
Isaiah Wright
Deandre Carter
Tony Brown

Unless we decided to keep him just as a returner (I'm skeptical we'd do that), he would probably have to beat out Harmon, Cam Sims, or Dyami Brown for a roster spot... Then again, who knows what the coaches think?

Harmon coming off that knee could be a factor
Cam being so unsteady in his play
Dax? Never heard of him
Sims can't hold on to the ball long enough to be reliable
Tony Brown? Never heard of him
AGG hasn't really done anything

We do have a lot of "possibility" players back there...If anyone can coach and bring them up its Ron. I like this sort of "problem".

Milne is our 7th round pick.

I think the team is very high on Cam Sims and although he drove fans crazy with poor hands previously, he had a pretty good 2021 season. He is a lock to make the roster imho. AGG is all about 'potential' and I don't have a feel for how the team views him. Ditto Stephen Sims who has looked great and awful at times. Bottom line, other than his kick returning, Carter hasn't done much and the KR skills haven't been enough for anyone else to keep him. Doesn't mean he can't change that though. I wasn't saying Carter is better or worse than any of the guys in the room, only that it is already a very crowded room.

I gotta admit, when they said that he was the emotional leader in the locker room I was very shocked.

Basically, he had 32 catches for almost 500 yds in his first season where he got significant opportunities (and with our QB play which was horrid). I think on a normal offense with capable QBing, he probably pushes 1000 yds. And most importantly, he seems to have gotten a handle on the drops. This is a big season upcoming for him. But the coaches are definitely higher on him than fans are.

One of the big questions is, who will Fitzmagic click with? I think you're right that one of the biggest questions is where does Harmon stand and can he pick up where he left off 2 seasons ago?

I think the only 3 roster spots in the WR room that are set are McLaurin / Samuel / Brown. I would have previously said Humphries was a lock but Rivera had no problem letting Sean Davis go just a few months after signing him. I honestly think it'll be the best man plays, and it's gotta be earned. They may like Cam (and I'm not convinced he's gotten passed the dropesies... yet) or Harmon, but signing Humphries, drafting Dyami Brown (someone they maybe didnt expect to walk away with), drafting Milne, signing Tony Brown (futures) tells me that they're looking for talent, and they're going to look anywhere they can to find it.

Sammis Reyes being another example of this.

They really like Sims. He’s more of a lock than Dyami is imho. But overall agree. Beyond McLaurin and Samuel it could be anyone’s guess…

The only reason I included Brown was because of the draft capital spent.

Yeah - I would be shocked if he's not on the roster. If I had to pick 6 right now, it's be McLaurin, Samuel, Dyami Brown, Cam Sims, Humphries, and Kelvin Harmon. But I think there could be a surprise or two. Also possible we keep 7 WRs this year.

Rivera has also made more than one complimentary comment about Steven Sims.

You know, the guy that struggles to catch punts.

Yes - he has. They keep putting him out there. Must be something they are seeing they like :) He's another dark horse candidate. Hell, maybe he's a lock and we just don't know.

This group of six is strong . It features everything you could want out of your position group . McLaurin ,Samuel,Brown bring a serious speed element while Simms, Harmon (more the latter) bring that big body type of posession receiver while Humphries is a chain mover. Couple that with Samuels ability to run the ball out of the backfield we should be cooking with gas. Im excited to see what our receiving corp will do this year . Keeping defenses off balance should be fun to watch especially when you also have receiving options at the RB position that are also a serious threat

Yeah, I'd feel pretty great with that group and x2 on the RB/WR hybrid thing we have going.
