Dwayne Haskins - released

Chase Young micd up on the sidelines saying "I see you #4. Someone's been paying attention"

Sounded like a subtle shot at Haskins but maybe not. He is definitely hyped on the kid.

That tells you how much he’s damaged his own rep. Most of the time a former 1st rounder with his size and arm would at least be ‘in talks’ with someone.

The Toronto Argonauts and Washington Federals don't count.

I saw that clip. Chase also trotted out onto the field to tell Heineke to ‘keep doing what you’re doing!’ (To which he responded ‘that’s what I do!’)

That was also the play where Haskin’s also ran onto the field, which just looked really weird.

Chase running out just looked like a good gesture of leadership from the new Captain of the D. Haskins following him looked like the last desperate attempt of a man wanting to look like a Captain.

just a really odd look.

ESPN rumor-ers always mention New England as a destination for every player that is released during the season from an NFL team :p

I think "Do your job" is the last thing Haskins wants to do. ;)

Haskins' only God-given purpose was to bring us McLaurin and convince the top cats to take Young since Haskins was "The QB Prospect". Because if we were just winging it with no Haskins, we're taking Tua or Herbert instead. If hindsight were a thing....we should have taken Herbert over Young and dumped Haskins Josh Rosen-style.
Don't get me wrong, the rookie TD record holder was the steal of the draft for San Diego. I bet even Miami would rather have him than Tua.

But Young was the pick going in...Rivera wasn't going to pass on him. I admit, total I watched maybe 4 games, and not in total. My first real impression was a lackluster performance against the Giants, I was at the game...I chalk that up to coming back after nursing that groin or hamstring, I cannot remember which. But what I saw on a national stage on Thanksgiving Day was all I needed to see to know that kid is as special as the hype. It wasn't that he was there for his pass rush, but the fumble recovery and numerous other peripheral plays,. It was what he was doing when the action went the other way. That kid is not just a pass rusher, he is a game changer.

Yeah you can't pass on Chase Young unless you have a shot at Burrow. Sorry. Young coming in appeared to be the one of the best prospects to touch the field in the last 10 - 20 years at any position. He's shown the ability to translate that to the NFL in his first season and we will see if that continues. Herbert looks like he's going to be good, but Young just looks different.

The overwhelming narrative on Haskins is and is likely to always be that he had the talent but not the perseverance...bullshevik. He has the arm strength and physique, but like Paxton Lynch, Tim Tebow, Sanchez, or Brock Osweiler, he doesn't have accuracy, which generally cannot be taught. You can't overwrite years of flawed mechanics. This is why Elway sucks at drafting QBs... he keeps trying to draft himself, picking the guy with the strongest arm and thinking he can learn to be accurate or see the field. Tebow had a great attitude and every year we would hear how he spent the off-season working out with a private QB trainer correcting his mechanics...and as soon as he gets in a game he floats a pass ten yards over an open WR`s head. Haskins doesn't have vision or accuracy. Yeah, his work ethic/sense of entitlement would be a career killer even if he did, but an emotional turnaround isn't going to save him from his limitations.

I just don’t think that Haskins has the innate characteristics required to excel at the QB position.

I am not referring to personality traits, those can and often do develop with the passage of time and the accumulation of experience.

A understanding and execution of concepts, having feel or situational awareness, recognition skills with associated adaptation, etc. are what will keep him from ever meeting the promise of his physical gifts.

this could be agent speak, but not likely ONLY that because a team is named

This is why I thought he had trade value prior to his last stint as a starter.. teams are still interested in him.

Maybe not...

I could only wonder what was said.

Dwayne: You said that you'd be able to get me traded to a much better place just like Jalen Ramsey.
Agent: My advice was made under the assumption that you were working on at least looking good on Sundays.
(all just a fantasy converesation)

Not that is matters much, but do we know for sure which one actually precipitated this?

nope

Agent could have easily decided it was time to cut him loose.
