WE: Haynesworth Transcript

Jimbo, the Vincent Jackson trade would never happen since San Diego runs a 3-4, but I like the way you think. The only way a trade can happen at this point is to a contender desperate enough. I just don't think anyone is desperate enough.

Every one suggests his actions will be detrimental to the team and I believed it when the drama started. I still believe it will be a thorn in the side of the team, but it appears that the majority of the team and coaching staff are fully aware of this man's selfishness. Every team has drama. The only reason this has so much traction is because the previous administration signed him to such a gaudy deal. I don't think the team will be overly affected if they sit this guy on the bench all season long.

I gottcha. You make some good points on things that needs to be addressed. I'm just more confident in this coaching staff to adjust than I am in last years. I'm trying to make the point that there has been a lot of change. Because of that fact there are going to be some hiccups. AH is indeed a sidebar and such a distraction is exactly what we DO NOT need in order to improve. That's why I don't like this particular sidebar.

I appreciate your pov. that said....the import of the short Q&A with AH is miniscule compared to other issues. if Fans are gonna take after one player, then they should go after all the other frauds who aren't performing either.

the regular season gets you into the tournament, from there it's about coaching with a win or go home mentality. Coach has a plan and IF fat albert can buy in can help this football team.

no it's not. the fans are all up in arms about a sidebar issue - AH. when the real problems were out there for everyone to see last night. THE FANS are wanking about the wrong things. they should be upset/worried about the routinely subpar play that is masked by occasional good play.

Dude, this is a 10 year mess in the making. It's not going to get better over night. McNabb is gonna miss receivers and throw dirt balls, just like he did in Philly. But he's better than what we had.

Keep in mind there's a good chance the crows could go to the SB this year, and I think someone forgot to tell them it was a preseason game.

8-8 is about all I expect this year.

and btw..........I'm sick and tired every time some player executes his job jumping up in some self-absorbed victory celebration. they look like clowns out there - all the while being handled by the good teams. perhaps Shanahan should worry a bit more about that.

their just having fun, don't get me started!:cool4:

This drives me absolutely CRAZY! Just play the damn game! Celebrate when you win!!! Marcus Washington used to do this all the time! There is nothing to celebrate until the game is over with a win! :tantrum:

Now, as far as the rest of your rant, I agree with much of it. The problem is, at this point the transformation has just begun from the worst leadership structure this team has ever had, including the Spurrier years. It ain't gonna happen over night. The issues like LB's being patient and not over committing when you see the RB in a wide open hole just to see that RB bounce it outside should be resolved in time.

Sarge has a point, it is the 2nd pre-season game in a new system with an entirely new coaching staff. This will take time.

I think hes upset, maybe Haynesworth feels left out and wants on the 1st unit (RDE - replacing K Golston). Dedicated (upset) fat albert is not a good thing for NFL QB's :drummer:

Looks like he has rhabdomyolysis. Eh, this should make the conversation a bit more interesting.

It doesn't matter to me if it's rhabdomyolysis or a headache. The point is when he's on the field he doesn't show effort. Then he's got the short hairs to whine and complain to the media after the game. That sort of action shows no respect to his teammates or to the organization. He has never been a team player and he never will be.

how do you know he's not making an effort? What I saw was good effort at the snap, good push but not enough hustle when the play moved downfield (i.e., his pursuit ate it). that's not good enough...but not the same as not hustling either.

no excuses...but I can understand his state of mind: two time pro bowler with 9 yrs in the league. 3rd qtr with the scrubs in a pre-season game? much of it his doing...but I still know where he is coming from. and let's be frank here...if Goldston starts we are in a world of hurt. love the guy....but I have been watching him get blown off the los for several years now on running play.

a pox on both sides.

meanwhile back on the home front...

- the passrush SUCKS like it used to

- the LBs still SUCK in space

- I know what I see with my eyes...and it tells me Kemo isn't worth a *hit in passrush. but then again, the same can be said for our vaunted DEs. as for run defense...there's always the hope that the pinheads paying DE won't get sucked into the inside every other play. what an achievement that would be!!! but hey...we have "REAL TALENT" and a top 5 defense!!!. Rice would have run for over 150+ in a real game. we have bigger problems than AH

the Skins continue to specialize in making the other team's QB look great!

but at least the fans get to wax philosophical. just as they will when this team overreaches to a sterling 8-8 record!!!!

I think everyone was a bit surprised by what we saw last night. Haynesworth is nothing more than an easy and convenient target. He clearly was not putting forth effort last night, which is enough to draw the ire of fans due to salary disparity anyway, to say nothing of the offseason bull**** we have had to put up with because of him.

Having said that, I agree completely with you. With or without Fat Al, our defense looked rough at best last night. Carter is a pretty significant problem that needs to be addressed soon. 'Rak's whiff was terrible too, just terrible. It scares me that Carter and Rak seem to have trouble in space. Not a good sign.

McNabb is McNabb. For every pass he under or over throws, he will deliver one like he did on the goal line under pressure. Anyone who thinks he isn't a massive upgrade from Campbell is kidding themselves. He will frustrate the hell out of us from time to time though.

No, my main concern is the defense. I have to ask if the Ravens are that good? Were the Bills that bad? Cause Holy Jesus, if the Bills are actually that bad? Yikes. I suspect the answer is somewhere in between. Felix Jones is going to give us fits, but we should be able to maintain against Marion Barber. Same with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw respectively.

I agreed with everything you've written today except for the first paragraph above. If you are going to argue with a straight face that we don't know if Fat Al was giving effort, I think you're off your rocker. Pretty clear to everyone he was not.

Again though, he is a convenient scape goat, but certainly not all the problem. In fact, if him not giving good enough effort turns out to be the worst of our problems this year, I'm thinking we may end up in the SB.

Q. Do you think the coaches are still mad after the Mcdouble and taco incident?

A. "Yeah you know, I knew they were pissed about the fact I hid 4 McDoubles and 6 soft tacos in my pads during practice. But I mean, I get hungry during practice, it's like my tackling fuel. I'm a big dude, with a big colon, I have to be satisfy my hunger."

Apparently I was watching a completely different first half last night then everyone else.

I watched it twice more on NFL Network this morning to see how much I missed watching originally online.

Still don't see any reason to panic. Guess I'll go get my eyes checked.

No reason to panic, but our D didn't look great. It is just preseason, but there are danger signs with Carter that are worrisome. Now, if Shanahan and Haslet are doing what they are supposed to be doing in the preseason, and putting players in situations in order to evaluate them properly, I would say we don't have too much to worry about.

It may be they decide they kind hide Carter's deficiencies, and are scheming to do so now.

Who knows? It's preseason!

:)

I thought the defense looked pretty solid in the first half. Considering that they were playing against a good, established NFL championship contender, I'll take it at this point.

Does the defense stand improvement? Of course it does. And probably will throughout this season. This group ain't the '86 Bears. :) But it's not as bad as '62 will lead anyone to believe. (Post #16.)

It's going to take a while for this defense to settle in. It took Dom Capers 6 or 7 weeks to start getting the Packers to "get" the 3-4 last year and to start making plays rather than just thinking about responsibilities and where they're supposed to be in the scheme. We're still in the early stages here.

I did get too high after the Buffalo game and I'm not going to get too low after last night. This is all going to take time.

I watched the first half 2x today (the 2nd half 1 more time, too never be watched again, seriously some of those guys better feel real freakin embarassed) and here's my thoughts in no particular order.

The receivers who dropped passes: Other than Davis in the endzone McNabb threaded the needle with some bullets. Our receivers aren't used to number one having a qb who'll attempt that throw and number two whose got that kind of zip. Couple more weeks together that will change.

McNabb: Still a little off on short throws, this is a timing thing, on the pass to portis his footwork was bad which is why it was off. This can be addressed again with practice together. He likes to thread the needle alot, but he's got the cannon to do it. This will cause some of us to scream at the tv, more often in excitement than disgust. The pass that the announcers said "could've have been picked" near the endzone, only if the db has Deion hands, that ball was coming hot.

T.Williams : Someone please put a picture of Buges in his locker with this saying "Get LOW". He was way to high a times which caused his footwork to get close , lower that base and keep those feet spread. Suggs only beat him because his feet and base were off. This kids gonna be a monster though.

LJ: I'm almost convinced he got his bell rung early, the first pitch outside he had a good burst, then it just disappeared. The O-line didn't help him much but his first two steps after that initial run were dreadful. CP on the otherhand looked great off the get go, still needs to get his feet up going through the hole but looked solid. CP is still the best blocking back in the league, the roll out pass to Cooley doesn't happen if he doesnt carry that block.

Moss: Competent QB, Moss performs, whodathunk

AA: Once this kid and McNabb get timing down it's going to be something to see. The pass McNabb underthrew wasn't really that far underthrown it's just AA has some wheels. The overthrown pass again was a timing issue, they'll get used to it.

The D: Yes Carter seems slightly like a fish out of water but I don't think its too much a reason for concern yet. His base is too high off the get go, Carter is not slow so I think as his technique improves so will his overall play. We know he will be liability at certain things, but Haslett should scheme to hide those issues or atleast try to make them manageable.

Rak: Geebies Geebies Geebies, straight butter. Has 2-3 sacks if not for massive holding. Oher got bitched last night or pun intended got BLINDSIDED by the manchild. He does still have some work in coverage but his closing speed is nasty.

DB's: Pretty solid, Haslett needs to work on the flats, they picked us apart a few times and either it was the scheme we played on those downs or bad execution. I couldn't figure which since in a cover 2 the db's have flat responsibility but they looked to be playing deeper zones with linebacker help. Someone who understands the 3-4 better than I can probabaly point the exact reason for the holes.

The Line: When we brought 4 or 5, Carter and Rak both came on some plays, we got pressure, minus the holding. Kemo played very well, eating up space, their running game was not efficient, there were a few times our OLB's overpursued causing some running lanes.

Overall minus the fake punt bs - really come on Harbitch thats a vagina move. It was 6-3starters against starters. Was it great, no, was it a vast improvement over what we've been calling Redskins football the past few years, absolutely. Progress comes in pieces, not large chunks like we'd like sometimes.
