Posed this question to JP Finlay on twitter. Do we keep 3 QBs active this year? I say yes. I don't think there's any way you can rely on Alex as the #2, but he has earned a spot and even though I'm generally not a fan of using a roster spot on a 3rd QB, it would be worth it for mentorship purposes alone imho.

JP replied, once Smith came off PUP he can't go back.. he would have to go to IR. We could designate him IR to return but were limited in how many and I dont know if i want to use that bullet on him. I'd rather put him as our no. 3 QB and let it ride.
 
I think you just have to bite the bullet and use that roster spot on him. Again, the mentorship that he can provide Dwayne is hard to put a value on.

yeah and there is no real benefit to releasing him. If we cut him the money owed for this year jumps to $30+ million. If we tried to spread it out, we're carrying dead money into an offseason where the cap could potentially drop. They have apparently agreed that the 'floor' of the cap next year will be $175 mil, but that's still a $23 mil drop from this season. As it stands now we have a good bit of cap space next year, and we will also be carrying more over. Could really put us in a position to be the lead dog when it comes to free agency next year, and I think there will be some surprising cap casualties next offseason that could really contribute. It's almost a lock he's on this team this year.

AGG appeared to get hurt on Friday. Did not practice yesterday, not practicing today...


 
Fabian appears to be getting some top reps... gotta be a test to see if he can be the guy.
