I'm not arguing ; I'm asking because I don't know, or maybe I don't understand.
But if I understand right, people are saying that due to the new CBA rules, he cannot "sit out" 2 seasons in a row,, and accrue another season.
However, technically, it does not look like he actually "sat out" all of 2019 since he did report in time to accrue the season.
So based on that, couldn't he actually pull the same thing this season, since he technically did not sit out of all of last season ?

Don't know the minute details, trusting some of the local pundits who seem to be on top of it who are saying the Skins have all the leverage, especially with the new deal in place.
 
It’s $40,000 fine per day if he doesn’t report. He would essentially be forgoing his entire salary if he doesn’t report. He’s not going to do that.
 
Ahh the difference between your perceived market value and reality, like when someone on my team says they're worth another 10k, my response is someone offering it? Nope, youre not, and yeah i can kinda be a dick as a boss, bitching about pay will bring that out. So TW as a fan who pays your salary via products etc.....NOPE and gfy

I believe Rivera needs to publicly state that Trent will definitely NOT be cut. Either swap us a 2nd rounder or he rides the pine this year and we get a 3rd (comp pick) when he leaves next season.

Keep wondering if teams are thinking we’ll just let him walk at some point as he throws tantrums. Remove all doubt so if TW’s agent can’t find us a 2nd his client will suit up.
 
I guess it wouldn't hurt anything, but I don't think that's why he's not gotten a deal yet. GMs know we aren't going to cut him. He'll either lower his salary expectations significantly so we can trade him, enjoy getting fined $40,000 a day for not reporting, or get his ass back on the field. He really has no choice and GMs likely know we're not letting him off the hook.
 
I don't blame Trent. He's likely had enough of the clown show and wants to play for a contender before retirement. And although Bruce is no longer calling the shots in regard to FA, our moves so far have resembled the same amount of incompetence as before. No TE again? And apparently now, no LT.

We had better trade down in the first. Chase Young is great, but so is Khalil Mack and as we all now know, that means absolutely nothing.

We need about 10 good players to compete.

Trade him competently (not like a 5th for Dunbar) get something good in return and let him go to a real team.
 
If he was concerned with the 'clown show' - he'd be ecstatic right now since all the folks he had such a dramatic problem with have been sent packing. Yet he's as unhappy as ever? He professes his love for Dan Snyder so that can't be the issue, right? Hmmm.... I wonder what the constant between last season and this season could be that has him in such a twist? Oh. That's right.

The contract hasn't changed.

Don't be a sucker Mike. It doesn't take much brain power to figure out what this has all been about.

Judging Rivera (and Kyle Smith) as 'incompetent' before we've even held a practice, seen our draft haul, or played a real down - it's just silly. Take a deep breath. It's going to be okay :)
 
I wish this would play out as follows....

1. Trent can't find a suitor, and has to ride out the last year of his contract here.
2. He plays poorly enough after taking over a year off that he is benched and a shadow of his former self.
3. His market value drops so significantly that not only does he get nowhere near the deal he wanted, but even less than he would've received by signing an extension here.
4. He finishes his career playing for a horrible team, unhappy, and making half of what he was trying to get.
 
My desire for our team to be successful and for our young QBs not to get killed trumps by far my desire for Williams to get what he deserves.

We need to get value out of him no matter what that looks like.
 
I was reading earlier that Trent was upset when during their meeting Ron said he wants him to stay and prove himself before he gets an extension. PROVE HIMSELF??? How dare he tell that to the great Trent Williams. His agent is also a moron.

When Trent heard that disrespect, I imagine he may have given Rivera the "Sherman Smack" and negotiations just naturally spiraled downwardly from there.

With people dying daily due to the pandemic the optics for Williams crying about the injustice of making $12.5M in 2020 and honoring the contract he signed are pretty poor.

Drew Brees donated $5M to NO.
