So, we need a Dunbar thread, if we have one for Trent and Reed.
This has been a weird story from the start, and gotten weirder.
He claimed he wanted to be cut or traded, at the weirdest possible timing.
Then days later he seemed to retract the story and say he didn't ask to be traded.
Now, the latest story says he's now stating he does want a trade.

How do you see this playing out ?

This is the time of year for this nonsense. Well paid players who signed a deal but now feel they’ve been slighted and crying for a better deal and when they get rebuffed, demand a trade. Same thing going on in Min y with Stephon Diggs.

What you do is, ignore it.

If a team comes along that offers you more than he’s worth, sure you should consider it. But Dunbar has zero leverage and they should ignore him and avoid rewarding that kind of ploy from other players.

He's got a year left on his deal and has no power in this at all. I give him credit for learning a new position, but dude... one at a time. You're no not the highest face on the totem pole and this is a brand new staff, not even a month old. Let them get their feet wet. You're not going any place and no one on a 3-13 team is sacred.

i think the answer to the Dunbar dilemma is in Boone’s post. Swap Dunbar for Diggs straight up so both teams can move on.

At this point we need to get something for him, may as well help Haskins out with another playmaker.

On an arguably related note, how come no o e is talking about Kendall Fuller coming back? Folks made him out to be the 2nd coming of Darrell Green when we gave him up in the Alex Smith trade. 2 years later after having been demoted to safety n KC, he’s a free agent and only 25. Might be reasonable to give Dunbar his trade if you can get decent compensation and bring Fuller back. He’s just 25 and would cost no picks.

I don't think Fuller would want to come back here, when he has a chance to stay in KC for a few more rings and the next possible dynasty.
He was happy here, but all his buddies are now gone.
So I don't see what would attract him here.

He’s a free agent. KC demoted him from the corner spot to safety where he played poorly. I don’t think they will resign him. His performance the past 2 seasons has hurt his value big time but the Redskins probably have a better idea of what he might be capable of in a well designed defense. And Rivera has the rep as one of the best defensive coaches.

What made Fuller, Dunbar, Moreau, Breeland, all either good or great, was Torrian Gray .
Wish we kept him.

Dunbar hasn’t done enough in this uniform to warrant his own thread.

Williams made 7 pro bowls and was the team’s best player for much of the past decade.

We also made a major investment in him as the #4 overall pick.

Dunbar’s career was made by coming to DC and switching to CB at the urging of the coaches.

He’s no all-world talent but a 'B’level player acting as if he deserves 'A’ level comp because he was the best of a poor to middling group in 2019.

As Mitchell indicated Dunbar has only played in 18 of the team’s last 32 games due to injury and thats not great for a 27 year old player.

Lol. I think bulldog just said get off my lawn.

That and every word there is spot-on :) Ok Boomer?

Dunbar is doing what everyone in the NFL does: make money. That is first, last and foremost for the folks who run it, the folks who own it, the folks who coach it and the folks who play it. Optics may be bad for Dunbar, no doubt; but my guess is that not everything is coming out. For example, I caught an obscure news post yesterday that the team did not even respond to his initial request for a meeting; on a seubsequent request they told him more or less to pack sand, we aint talkin. So, you're in Dunbar's shoes. It's your chance to make some more scratch like everyone else in the NFL bidniz is doing every day. You know the new coach is busting his buns to bring in a player who sat out for a year leaving his teammates high and dry, has been busted for pot use twice, went public with his anger/frustration...and the team won't even talk to you? I understand that Dunbar is swimming against the current based on injuries, etc. But this is just more supremely stupid management practice by the Skins. They should have answered the request, brought him in, and done some stage setting: "Quinton, you played well at times, we believe you have a future here, but we need more of a track record. This is where your performance lands you at this time. Here's what we want to see. You may be mistaken. Let's have a frank conversation about your future here vice elsewhere. Here's where we're headed and you will prosper in the system." On the flip side, if there are serious reservations about Dunbar, you still bring him in and tell him that based on performance and potential, you're not in the picture. Instead, they deliberately or unintentionally decided to make it public. Getting tough with the players? Setting an example? A joke in my opinion. They chose the wrong guy and the wrong way to demonstrate there's a new riverboat captain in town. You do that by trading/cutting the troublemakers right up front. The FO knows who the bad apples are.

IMO, more stupid, avoidable Redskins drama. It too shall pass. Yet, how does it impact FAs considering interest/offers from the Skins?

Couple things. You're right - if they are being inconsistent that is a problem. That's why I have always favored no concessions or special outreach to TW. I know many argue that you can't treat players all the same, but personally I think that can create real problems in the locker room. On the other hand, we don't know what's transpired - and what we are hearing is very likely coming from Dunbar's agent, and is designed for one thing (hint: it's not to 'get the facts out there'...lol). I'd just be cautious about making assumptions about what is actually going on. We've had massive change at nearly every spot except the owner and I think it's a stretch to believe that Dan Snyder gives enough of a rat's ass about Quinton Dunbar to be driving how this has been handled.

There's only one guy who is under contract currently, who demanded a trade, denied he demanded a trade, then demanded a trade :)

People say Dunbar's demands will be ignored because he's missed 14 games in the last 2 seasons.
Williams missed a lot more than that and he's a lot older but a lot of people want to give into his much bigger demands

He's not that good. That's why his demands will be ignored. Personally, I don't think the Redskins should re-negotiate any players deal under threat or 'demand'. But the plain truth is that average to above average players don't get special treatment or consideration. TW has been one of the best at his position. Whether he's still that is highly debateable. But he's been there. Dunbar is barely known across the NFL. May not be fair, but that's a big difference.

To piggy back on the 'get off my lawn’ view it’s very unfortunate to see players antics today that want traded out. It seems more and more are taking to social media to trash their respective team in an effort to either get released or receive a more favorable contract.

We’ve dealt with this a few times recently with Swearinger, Trent, and now Dunbar. It’s a tactic that’s becoming more common throughout the league, and if the owners don’t insert some type of conduct policy into the CBA it’ll become common practice imho.

Dunbar is not Gilmore or Ramsey, he’s not a must have player for us so in this case he is barking at the moon like a backyard hound.

Rivera no doubt feels getting a deal done with Williams and sorting out the cap/roster before free agency is more important than satisfying a guy that seems to ends up on IR.

Then we all agree! It's just a business! The prize heffers go for the highest price. The rest to the slaughterhouse sooner rather than later!
