Random Commanders Thoughts

I'm struggling with believing that claim.
Is that really in fact true ?
Neither Brady, Rodgers, nor Roeth, have ever won a single game in Seattle, in their long, entire careers ?

And maybe Kirk has elevated over another hump.
That last drive with 1:34 left was the kind of drive he'd throw a pick on, in the past.

The past as in twice this season.
 
Not to be a killjoy, but judging a player is never about 1 game, or even a couple. And minus the last 5 minutes, that may have been one of the worst games I've seen Kirk play in the last couple of years. That's not taking anything away from how he finished it - for which he deserves credit.

He deserves credit for that last drive... absolutely.

The 58 minutes before that... ooh fah... I could smell it all the way over here.

We need to bring up Harris from the PS at WR.

Doctson is showing some signs of becoming something here but Pryor at this point is an obvious one and done.

Harris was productive last year in OUR offense, including a couple of key third down grabs.

With the lack of production there we need to try new things.

We gave Quick a shot and he had 3 good catches including that 30 yarder.

I don't care what some guys didn't do in August in camp (Quick, Harris, Davis).

As long as a player has the physical talent you never really know until they get on the field.

Some guys are just gamers.

Others are camp and practice warriors that fell off when the hitting was for real.

Anyone remember John Beck?
 
Quick in week 1 - 1 target; 1 catch; 11 yd's & a 1st down.
Doesn't get played again until game 8 while the experiment with Terrell waiting for the ball to bounce off his chest first then try to coral it in.
Yesterday Quick - 3 targets; 3 catches; 49 yd's & 2 1st downs. The one that wasn't a 1st had 20 yards to go & he got 16 back.

I hope they don't put him back on the shelf especially if it turns out Davis misses time. Yeah I know one's a TE & one's a WR but they give you very similar stuff.
 
I believe Quick suffered a concussion on that helmet-to-helmet hit. Hopefully he's available quickly.

But this particular criticism was that he was "incapable" of a certain feat.
If someone says that you are incapable of something, you need only do it one time, to prove them wrong.
It's no different than someone saying that Kirk is incapable of throwing a ball 60 yards. Does he need to repeatedly throw it 60 yards to prove he is simply capable ? No, only once, and that argument is over.
 
Might prove whoever said it wrong... doesn't prove anything else. Cousins still has a lot to prove imho.

That drive by Cousins was huge. He's done it before but his reputation is that he can't do it. That's why I think it's important. But the point that you don't judge a player by one game is true. Whether that is a good game or a poor game. (And for the record this was not a good game except for 2 drives, just one of them was when it really mattered.) It's the whole of the season that matters and hopefully Cousins plays well all the time and especially when it matters.
 
The irony is that I've heard previous criticism about Kirk being great at putting up great individual stats, but not winning games in the clutch.
Now he does the opposite. He has a poor quality game, then wins it in the clutch.
Yet many still want to focus on the negative.
So, which way is it gonna be ?
 
Hate having injuries on our squad. However, some of these backups and 3rd stringers getting some valuable playing time against good teams is crucial.

Bruce is far from a top GM (yet) but he's doing okay finding depth for the club for sure.
 
The demise of Green Bay and Indy without their franchise QB's should be perfect lessons on why we need to pay the man.
That could be us next year, and many years thereafter, if we let the man walk.

Agreed. I was saying in chat on Sunday that having injuries early may actually be a blessing in disguise. That's if we can get those players back soon for a late season run and if the valuable playing experience pays dividends to make us deep on the bench.

Plus I'm hoping that the injury bug evens itself across the other teams at the end of the year taking them out of contention just as we're coming on song.

Sometimes it's not how you start, it's how you finish. :D

As one who has made several remarks concerning Crook Cousin's inability to win the big game, or perform in less than ideal conditions, I saw little to change my mind in this one game.

Hate to pick nits here, but your blanket statement seems to indicate he did it all on his own, while everyone else was coming apart at the seams.

For all the heat he faced during the game, he did okay, I guess. I don't think the game plan did much to help him. But he continues to hurt himself by not recognizing where the pressure is coming from, pre-snap. Failing to just throw it away instead of taking the sack. (Obviously, there were times he didn't have time to do so. But not always) And having to still be constantly told to "let it fly", instead of waiting for the receiver to be wide open.

This was a game nobody expected us to lose. So, zero pressure to win.
On the last drive, the pass to Quick was just, okay. The adjusting to the ball, mid-flight, and making the catch was the best part of the play. So, Crook did alright with pressure in his face, but Quick was the better half of that play. Not to mention the MASH unit gave him time, against a very good pass rush, who KNEW we were passing.
The pass to Doctson, got there, but it was hardly a great pass. Doctson had two steps on the defender. A better pass and he walks into the endzone. Doctson made that play. Crook gets an honorable mention, for being a part of it. But he had a pretty clean pocket. Easier to expect him to make a better throw under those conditions, than it is to expect receivers to make that catch.

So, while he did good at the end, (I called him MONEY for it) he still has much to prove. As Boone said.

And if the season ended today, my vote is to let him walk. He's got 8 weeks left. He's already been paid like "The Man", for this year, and last. He has yet to earn it. IMHO.
