Random Commanders Thoughts

I think it most definitely will play a roll. Right or wrong, if he shits the bed in another big game, it will be brought up in negotiations. Especially if NY rests some starters.

But, making the playoffs, if we do, and performing well Sunday, and into the playoffs, then Kirk will hold most of the cards.

I don't think it totally affects his negotiations. Now if he had an average year we would have saved some money but I've heard negotiations are going to start around 24 million where the cap number is for his tag so he will get somewhere around that amount. But I also expect an easy out after 2 seasons incase something happens with minimal cap hindrance. I'm think 5 year 130 million 65 in guarenteed money signing bonus around 25 million. I think if the tag him this year and no deal is done the tag goes up to 34 million next season. So a deal will get done this season

If he doesn't lead the team to the playoffs this Sunday, it doesn't help.

Could also mean he's just an expensive seat warmer for the QB that will someday.

We signed Rufus Johnson today. With a defensive name like that he ought to be a stud

Cousins came up small against the Cardinals and Panthers in the second half. His performance in the second half last year in 'crunch' time was one of his biggest selling points in re a new contract.

This is another home game against an opponent at less than 100% that doesn't really need a victory.

Kirk needs to lead this team to a win. Third down conversions and red zone scores, not just field goals.

That's what Ben Roethlisberger, Aaron Rodgers and Matt Ryan are doing this time of year.

At some point the Redskins and Cousins need to make FedEx Field a true home field for the Redskins and not a place where other teams visit to get healthy.

Already this team has lost to Pittsburgh, Dallas, and Carolina at home.

Two of those three losses were pretty ugly.

Kirk's back is tired from carrying this team all year long.

God forbid he's has a few let downs when the Defense has been a dumpster fire most of the season and the coaching staff refuses to cobble together a decent, consistent running game to help the guy out.

If they let Kirk walk, might as well get your hiking shoes back on because we're headed back to the NFL Wilderness for another 25 yrs again.

Aaron Rodgers has carried the Packers this season.

You could make an argument that overall the Packers have less talent than the Redskins.

And that talent is older. Clay Matthews is 32, Jordy Nelson is 31, Julius Peppers is 35, Bryan Bulaga is 30.

All have been injured at some point during the season.

But Rodgers at 4-6 has basically carried the Packers to an 8-6 finish with one game remaining.

Cousins I would argue has a better offensive line in front of him and a more diverse set of capable receivers to throw to.

Both defenses have been poor.

The Packers have a pro bowl caliber lineman in Mike Daniels, which the Redskins lack.

But Josh Norman is better than any of the corners on the Packers.

What skews the comparison is the fact the NFC East is the home of wide receivers, whereas the NFC North is not.

The Packers were facing the Vikings, Bears and Lions set of receivers. Outside of Alshon Jeffrey, who's been out, there isn't a #1 wideout in the bunch.

Meanwhile, the Redskins secondary plays against the likes of Odell Beckham Jr, Victor Cruz, Dez Bryant, Jason Witten, etc.

That's a whole different level of competition.

I get the feeling that Gruden believes almost any QB would succeed in "his system". And with McCoy knowing the system, I think the Redskins will indeed let Kirk walk if he demands Brady/Rodgers/Rapistburger money. And, if they can field a mid range quality defense, McCoy starting would force them to run more. Might not be that far from reality.

Ah the joy of being married to a Packers fan means I watched every GB game this year. Aaron Rodgers early in the season was awful. He had flashes of the Rodgers we know, but there were games when he looked like one of the worst QBs in the League.

I'll admit that lately he's been looking like an MVP candidate (which he shouldn't get for a half a good season!) but early on he was anything but. He was pretty well outplayed by Kirk in our game.

Yes Nelson looked off and they had no run game (till they converted Montgomery) but His game looked off. He looked ALOT like Kirk looked against the Panthers. Off target, hesitant.

The thing is that he's earned the benefit of the doubt because of his play over an extended period. Kirk has not. And let's not forget Aaron has failed to lead his team to victory in many a crucial game too. I don't think I've EVER seen a bigger collapse than the one Green Bay had against Seattle a couple of years ago in the NFC championship game. That was epic.

Kirk has played really well this year carrying a fatally flawed team much of they way. Even now this week he's playing the Giants with our lead RB injured and probably out our best TE out and our deep threat arguably best receiver nursing a bruised jaw. And all that with the knowledge that unless they get some breaks, our D is likely to let the opponent score as many points as we do.

He's carried the Skins more than the Pack have been carried by Rodgers. Yes Rodgers is dragging them into the playoffs now, but it could easily be argued that he was the one that put them in that position.

Rodgers looked mediocre from the 7th game last season to the 10th game this season. Early in the season he looked horrible. Late last season he looked horrible.

Yeah, but he's got a ring that Kirk does not.

And the year they won the SB, their defense wasn't much better than ours. Better, but not drastically better.

I do think Todd has a good chance of getting canned but how long would he be here for verses Bradley while both only had 2-3 years as DC I think Bradley won't get hired for awhile. Unless this defense magically transforms itself into a number 1 defense over night.

I looked over Bradley's career, looks like he caught lightning in a bottle. He landed in a spot that was ready to succeed, that defense is still one of the best in the NFL.

Arizona's defense hasn't lost much of their talent, but declined since his absence.

I'll take Bowles for 2-3 years, Bradley is a huge question mark.

Yeah but after 4 years as the starting QB and 3 years on the bench. By that measure Kirk should have us in a Super Bowl around 2019. Lol

Besides in their SB year they went 10-6 during the season. And the Packers D that year was superb!!!! They went to the Playoffs as a Wildcard but their D was top ten in a lot of categories.

Anyway, that's also why he has the leeway to have bad games. And he's has some stinkers. Every QB does.

But with only 16 games a year it takes a long time to put together a serious body of work. Rodgers has a thick portfolio to show and draw from, Kirk is still assembling his, but his stat lines the last two years are pretty comparable to Rodgers first two as a starter. Not saying he's the second coming, but he's trending in a good direction.

As this team matures I think you'll see plenty of games where Kirk pulls our fat out of the fire. And a bunch where he doesn't.

Just like Rodgers. And Brady (Most notably losing the perfect Season in 2007). And every other good QB. That's the reality of the QB position. It's just for the hallowed ones the good games out weigh the bad ones over the career span. Kirks is too short to have that yet but I do believe that if we stay the course we'll look back on his time here as being a good period. Maybe great.

Try being married to a Giants fan right now.....

But Rodgers is heating up at the right time, again.

From 4-6 to 9-6.

Anyone really believing in the Lions in this week's game?

They know their real chance at the playoffs is a Redskins loss against NY.

Although I will venture a guess the Lions if they get in will be clobbered in that first game.

The wind is definitely out of their sails.

Lions are done.

As you say Rodgers has heated up. Watching him the last few weeks it's like watching a different QB to early in the season. Watching the games though to be honest he's also got help now.

The D is stepping up too. Nelson looks to be back again and this Montgomery kid (the WR they pressed into service as an RB) is making a huge difference.

Like we've all been saying about our run game and balance. When they lost Lacy and Starks their run game was awful so it was all on the pass. The emergence of Montgomery kind of lines up with this resurgence. They're a much more balanced team now.

So though Rodgers has been great lately, like I said earlier he shouldn't be in the MVP conversation.

Todd won't be here but a year especially if he has a solid defense he will get that second job. Best to go with someone that will be here for a couple of years

Anyone but Barry is fine by me. Hell one of the Ryan's would work

YES! YES! YES! TV programming change, I'm getting the game Sunday !
