Who sits, who plays in Week 17 ?

We're talking about a team that finally has momentum and a winning streak... I think it would be difficult to go into the playoffs with an 8-8 record after getting swept by the 5-11 Cowboys. We've gone 15 games and have avoided significant injuries for the most part... Losing steam heading into the playoffs would be worse than the the relatively low risk of sustaining an injury. I'd say if you are up by 10 points, then start sitting players... Even if you lose, at least at that point you can declare a moral victory and keep your team warm & focused on football. If we're up by 10 points at halftime, you can easily bench guys like KC, TW, Reed, Garcon & DJax... You probably want to give some of the older guys up front on DL a break too.

Play the starters a whole half...let 'em sit the second half out.

Everyone is talking about momentum, but the primary reason that we're hot is not because we've mustered up momentum, but rather it's primarily because Kirk is progressively improving towards his true potential. So because of that, I don't think Kirk or the Redskins are going to regress, just because they take a week off.
Momentum is over-rated and often imaginary, IMO.
Even if momentum is a significant factor, the players may benefit more from the rest and the healing, than maintaining a psychological momentum.
Prior to our winning streak, we had a major "negative momentum" goin on - but did that stop us from winning after that ? Nope

So this might be crazy, but....

What if we played RGIII & Alfred in a similar offense to what we ran in 2012??? Not sure if Dallas could handle that and it would be a great showcase for Robert so that we can trade him in the offseason.

Trading RG3 is not an option
Plus we won't take the risk of playing him, because if he gets injured, we have to pay him the 16 Million in next year's option year, no matter what

I think we should defer to Kirk's spreadsheet and determine how off schedule it would make him if he were to change things up. ;)

I agree that momentum isn't a big deal when it comes to carry over from one season to the next, but it is a huge deal in season.... I mean, you don't win 7 games in a row to win the division & make the playoffs in 2012 without momentum... You don't win 5 straight to make the playoffs in 2007 with Todd Collins as your QB without momentum... This team finally has something good going. Interrupting that to give guys a day off? They are going to get a bunch of days off in 2 weeks if they lose... If we were 11-5 and had shown good form most of the season, I probably wouldn't have this same opinion.

And we lost to Seattle in the playoffs both of those times, anyway !
Apparently it's not a lock, to carry into the post-season though

Gruden's priorities, team health, take no game for granted, momentum and beat Dallas (the Dallas thing is my own priority)

Gruden's priorities, team health,

Yep....

Gruden's words :

“We’ll have to wait and see and talk about it as a staff and see where the injury report stands ...If he (Kirk) is injury free, a lot will depend on who’s playing around him, and we'll go from there."

In other words :
"I ain't stickin Cousins behind a 2nd string O-line"

Not worried about beating Dallas. They're probably going to tank the game too, for a better draft pick.

I have been going back and forth on this throughout the day.
Some of the guys I would sit on Defense(until I change my mind again, lol).
Deangelo, Breeland, and Gholston(if his ribs are still sore). I am leaning towards playing Kerrigan, since he had a slow start this season, and is really turning the corner.

Ok, we can't bench 3 quarters of our starting defensive backfield.
If Gholston is hurt, I would sit him. Let Deangelo play the first quarter, then let Jarrett fill in. Breeland might have to play.
I would sit Hatcher now.

Man, you're confusing me with the Gholston spelling., lol... At first I thought you were talking about Kedric, the DT (whose name that spelling most resembles). Now I just realized you're talking about Dashon Goldson.
Anyway, don't forget about Jeron Johnson

Everyone plays unless/until it's a blowout. Resting players is a bad move IMO and I disagree with FTS and think momentum is absolutely central to the game of football. So sitting and messing with the good mojo is a non starter for me. Play every game like it counts, Dungy proved years ago that resting starters is not wise.

The staff better not TELL the players ahead of time they will only be playing for a quarter or a half or whatever if that is the direction they go. That's when real injuries can happen, when a player is half-assing it, trying to not get injured. Either play them or don't. If you play them, and it turns into a blowout, great. You can start pulling people then.

Personally, I wouldn't sit anyone healthy enough to play.
