Random Commanders Thoughts

Must be tough time for Mike Florio and a few others. Florio went straight to Chip Kelly's situation and the week division angle after the game. What a great journalist he is.:sorrow:

Funny, he didn't mention the weak division when the Giants and Cowboys were going to the playoffs the past few years.

This division hasn't been a juggernaut in quite some time.

Chip Kelly has done nothing in the NFL to warrant the respect some of these guys give him in the media.

To me he has stripped the Eagles of key players and draft picks and brought in so-so talents that are going to net you 6-8 wins a year.

How is that an improvement?

The DeMarco Murray contract may be the worst since Haynesworth if Kelly stays in Philly and continues to run the same scheme.

The Eagles are paying Murray $15M to get the same 600 yards that Alfred Morris has gotten this year for Washington at $800K.

So, I was scrolling through some social media sites and I saw a link for Top Free Agents in 2016. No need to go searching through...we're going to the playoffs. Last year and the year before? Yeah, would have been in there 3 or 4 weeks ago.

Free Agency is very relevant, due to many of our own key players becoming FAs

The weekly grades, evaluations, and questions for BBQ will be extended by at least one week this season and maybe more. You like that. I like that.

I missed everybody last night in chat, as I just got back home from visiting my family for the holidays.

Man, what a night Saturday was though! I loved how the ghosts of the past revealed their ugly heads every now and then, but we slammed the door shut and said "not this time."

The opening drive touchdown for Philly, the botched extra point, Cousins' brain fart before the half with the kneel down, a poor kickoff and a long return to midfield which set up a Philly second half touchdown, etc. All those plays suggested that maybe it wasn't going to be our night, but time and time again, we stepped up and overcame the loser's mentality that we've shown so often in the past. That's what encouraged me most last night.

Our playoff game in two weeks is complete gravy for us as fans. I'm going into it with no expectations. I'm simply going to enjoy it and watch with pride, knowing that our team has accomplished something nobody thought we could do.

DeSean Jackson's team has eliminated Chip Kelly in two straight seasons.

According to @PFF, Jeremy Maclin has dropped just one pass this season. No receiver with at least 86 targets has dropped zero.

My cousin who is best friends with Jeremy maclin told me that maclin had a deal with the Eagles when howie was still the gm. When chip took over he changed the deal and maclin left to Kansas City. #thankschip

I am stoked we made the playoffs, but not happy about the fact we are there just to make up numbers. There is no way we are a better team than Carolina, or Arizona, or Green Bay, or even Seattle, so the knowledge of being division champs is enough to make Philly, Vagiants and the Brokebacks shake their collective heads and ask 'Are we really that bad?'.

I dunno, did you see the games tonight.

Green Bay haven't looked 'Better' in a while now. Their record flatters them. (Don't tell my wife that, she'll brain me!)

Atlanta proved that even mighty Carolina can be beaten.

And Seattle looked less than mighty today.

The Playoffs is all about peaking at the right time, and I'd say the Redskins are definitely peaking right now. Could we proceed to the 2nd round? Don't know. But I do fancy our chances...

we may not be better than the packers Vikings or Seahawks but I believe we can beat them at fed ex field

The biggest differences with this team this year.....

1) NO DRAMA! - No drug suspensions, no fights between players and coaching, no interference from Managmenet, no QB controversy and even though the run game has been in the pits and there's the whole Morris/Jones conundrum, the year has been wonderfully free of off field drama. I never thought the Redskins could be so turmoil free and peaceful.

2) RESILIENCY - This team isn't the best in the league but dammit they respond to tough times. Every time this season they've been down, and kicked for it they've bounced back. Whether it was the epic comeback in the Tampa game, or winning on the Road when they said it couldn't be done, to winning in prime time, or back to back when the doubters said no. Even as you mentioned when Kirk threw an Int, or the offense fumbled, or someone screwed up this team just seemed to keep coming. Even after lopsided defeats like the one in Carolina, we bounced back. I really feel like this is a team forging an identity before our eyes.

3) PLAYING ON MERIT - I love that the team rewards the best players with playing time. And I love that the players are responding.

Just think, there were fans of our team who were highly disappointed we didn't have a chance for Chip Kelly, and had prophesied he would wreck our division for years....

If we had Chip Kelly, he'd be another hot Snyder pick that blew up. Luckily, we get to mock the Eagles for it :D

But I am not obsessing because it can wait til February, we'll still be playing in the 2nd week of January.

Isnt it great instead of first day after the season ends we will be talking about our playoff game instead of what over rated free agent we might get or which draft pick to salivate over

I dunno, did you see the games tonight.

Are you serious? We are lucky to get three games a week, and if your name is not Denver, New England, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, New York Giants, Philadelphia or Dallas, then you'll only get shown on Aussie TV if you are playing against one of those teams.

Feel your pain Aussie. Same in the UK, Sky Sports usually only show 1 or 2 games if you're lucky and even then it's only the popular teams or the important games. Redskins are lucky to feature once a year.

We but the bullet and ended up buying NFL Gamepass. Between me and the Mrs we get our money's worth. 😊

I get to see all the Skins games and then I have to sit through her Packers games.

Jeez if you thought the Skins can sometimes be a tough watch her Packers have looked bad this year. I can't believe they have a 10-5 record.
Their Offense just can't move the ball.

They won that fluke game the other week on a desperate 80 yard Hail Mary and this week they were comprehensively dismantled by the Cardinals. I really think that if we played them in the playoffs we have a real shot at them.

Carolina stumbled yesterday and get whipped by Atlanta. So they are beatable, especially because I think we're a different and better more cohesive team than we were a couple of months ago. I think we're peaking where maybe, just maybe they're slumping. The Giants proved a few years back when they beat the Pats who were shooting for the perfect season that you just need to peak right, regular season records don't mean much after Christmas 😃

Seattle also looked less than impressive against the Rams.

I think we're peaking AND (for the first round at least!) we're at home! All thing are in play here!! 😃

We're not stumbling into the playoffs. We're on a convincing 3 game win streak, beating divisional opponents, road wins and prime time wins. We're slowly shedding every monkey on our backs.

We may not win a playoff game, it's likely we're out after the first round. But I don't think we'll be an easy out, and I think we'll be one of those teams they don't really want to play.

Florio can cry me a river. The Pats had a weak AFC East for a decade and took full advantage of it.

I swing back and forth between extreme joy and reticence about our chances. I think that comes from years of inconsistency and the ups and downs of this year. But when I step back and look at the NFC scene, I realize that we do deserve this.

Even if we weren't in the East, we'd be in the playoffs today. It's a different feeling from 2012 because we were electric and I think that's where most of my nervousness comes from. Back then I felt we could beat anyone. I don't think this team is there yet, but I'm feeling more confident each week. While not world beaters, we are becoming more consistent and I'm confident in that consistency. That confidence has quietly built up over time like this team. I mean who would have thought Cousins would be in range of 4,000 yards, let alone the Skins single season passing record?

When I step back and look at the forest for the trees, I can't help but stay excited and believe we can show others we deserve to be there.

In this day of parity and the rule changes that have been occurring, it doesnt really matter how good your team is. What really matters is peaking at the right time. The Giants won two superbowls with mediocre teams that peaked at exactly the right time. The Seahawks are masters at it too.

At this moment the teams in the NFC that look the scariest are the Cardinals and Seahawks. The Vikings look ok (they just feasted on a team that didnt bother showing up) but they dont scare me, the Panthers seem to have peaked early, and the Packers peaked WAY too early.

So Im not saying we're all that good, but sure, we have a chance to make some noise this year.
