I think Philly's going to bring the house early and often ... they know they can't let Cousins stand in the pocket and pick his targets given the state of their secondary. We'll need the right combination of gameplan, playcalling, protection and quick decision-making to make them pay and have to back off.

That's what Dallas did - and the frustrating thing in that game was that the obvious counter to the constant blitzing was 5-7 yard passes to Jordan Reed and hitting the RBs with dump offs out of the backfield and yet we did little of that. I hope we go into this with a solid plan.

An early FYI on free agency and the draft...

I still think we go WR in the first round. A big WR.

I don't think Alfred walks - he could be part of a great rotation. Here is something that could happen. Lamar Miller is reported to be very unhappy with the Dolphins (who isn't?). He is very talented and still very young. Would the Redskins sign him? We would likely get a team friendly deal and he went to the Univ. of Miami. Considering that we have former players like Moss and Portis to convince him, we could end up with a rotation of Miller, Morris, and Jones.

I'm not saying that this is virtually a done deal, but it is something to watch.

With the emergence of Will Compton, it is likely that we will not target ILB in the draft. A very good and inexpensive option at the other ILB spot could be found through FA.

If Dashon Goldson is willing to re-work his contract, we may not draft a strike safety. The thinking is that he stays and gets a new contract. Pretty certain that we will draft a free - likely in the second round.

Look for a center no later than the third round.

With the emergence of Cousin Kirk it is likely that we re-sign Colt as the backup and draft a QB in the later rounds. Keep an eye on Jeff Driskel from La. Tech and Jacoby Brissett from N.C. State.

Just an early look at the offseason as I now devote a couple of hours every other day at the possibilities. BBQ will be ready when the time comes, but we have a division title to play for now and several games ahead.

Bennie Logan, who wasn't in the locker room when reporters were today, has a calf strain and is unlikely to play this week, per NFL source.

He's their NT that stuffs the middle. He's a beast.

I'm not familiar with his backup, but Logan not playing would be huge.

I think Philly's going to bring the house early and often ... they know they can't let Cousins stand in the pocket and pick his targets given the state of their secondary. They can blitz all they want, but they will pay for it, with a heavy dose of Al Morris.

Their run defense was already porous before the loss of Logan.
In just the last 4 weeks, they've posted in the Top 8 worst rush yards allowed, twice.
Against the Bucs in week 11, they allowed a league-high 283 rush yards, and on Sunday
against the Cards, they allowed the 8th worst rushing yards at 230.
Also, their defense is dead last in the league, for total number of plays on the field. So they are weak and worn.

Yeah, Dallas knew the play action attempt at the deep ball to Desean was coming on the first play of the game and sacked Cousins...kinda setting the tone for the rest of the game.

Let's hope McVay has something a little less predictable up his sleeve.

The Eagles would be stupid to sell out and blitz Cousins.

The Redskins biggest plays come off of single coverage on Jackson and Reed and that is exactly what you would be looking at in these scenarios.

You can hit the mark and get a couple of sacks and several hurries, but if the end result is two or three big plays down the field that is the game right there.

They are going to have to play zone to stay in the contest defensively and hope Washington makes mistakes with drops, interceptions and fumbles to help them out.

Sam Bradford throws a nice ball but he is simply not mobile enough to run the offense that Kelly has in the playbook. He is a statue back there and their 'adjustment' to fake the run on a mini-bootleg and then have Bradford drop back and throw is not a substitute for a 'real' zone read package.

One thing that continues to concern me are the mistakes among some of the younger players. Matt Jones continues to make a number of gaffes during games from forgetting the snap count to lining up on the wrong side of the line of scrimmage to fumbling the ball, etc.

Jamison Crowder fumbled that punt last week. He needs to focus more on the catch than on trying to make a big play before he secures it.

LeRibeus' snaps are still high and could be problematic if he is out there.

Even though he is 'smallish' at 6'3 and 305, I would go with Brian de la Puente for the final two games of the season. He is a 31 year old vet that has been in playoff races before with New Orleans and will call a better game in terms of protections where Josh has also struggled.

When I saw LeRiebus go out, I thought that might be the opening to keep him out and get De La Puente in there. But, didn't McRib go back in or did DLP finish the game.

I hope you are right, but the Cowboys brought pressure all night and we all remember that result. I just hope that if the Eagles do blitz all night that the coaches adjust this time.
