Kirk Cousins Development Tracker

I can see Robert in Dallas as Romo's heir apparent and Skeletor knows his jersey sales would be crazy throughout Texas. I think the other option for Robert would be Philly as well in crazy Chips offense.

I'm also not sure if Kirk plays well the remainder of the season if a qb starved team like Houston, Jets doesn't throw stupid money at him. The other option would be NO if Brees is done there.

However, I believe the wait and see how the season plays out before we start talking money with Kirk. He's yet to show imo he's worth a long term commitment.

I was thinking more along the line of a team more willing to give him a start, i.e, Houston. It wasn't a dig at him, just I don't see either of those teams investing in him.
 
Listening to Skinscast this morning... Couple of valid points brought up worth thinking about regarding the extension for Kirk.

Both things lead me to believe that Kirk may want to wait till the off season before he starts negotiating. Couple of drivers for that.

1) Age. He's not a young QB even if he hasn't started much. Put into context Jamis Winston is 21 and has 9 starts. Mariota is 22 with 9 starts. As has been mentioned he's now been around for 4 years. Cousins is 27 now and has just 20 or so starts (or significant game experience). So he's not much more game experienced than this years rookies, but is 6 years older. Whatever contract he signs next will probably take him into his 30's. He's probably well aware that this could be his only chance for a big payday... if he plays well and snatches a few more wins this year. Which leads me to...

2) The Redskins Cap Room this year. They have LOADS. Rich Tandler did an analysis piece back in October and the final paragraph was...

If the Redskins release all of the players—and in reality they probably will release some, keep some, and negotiate salary reductions for some—they would take another $25.3 million off of their cap. That means that they potentially could go into the league year with $53.3 million in cap space.

...and Kirk and his Agent will be well aware of that. If he plays well and he starts getting offers and wants paying and knows the Redskins have a bucket of cash knocking around.

This could get expensive.

Of course I Scott and co will be well aware of this too. I believe they'd REALLY want to try and lock him up sooner rather than later and get into a bidding war. I think it depends upon how much Cousins wants to bet on himself finishing strong.

We shall see. :)

lotta teams are going to be cap rich. good time for any player with confidence to test the waters.
 
We can likely add San Fran into the group of teams looking for a QB next season.

Kap was just placed on IR for the remainder of the year.

They are not about to go from one option QB to another.
 
Everyone seems to believe Cam is the MVP of the league so far.

He's not real good from the pocket. Keep him from running and they are not as good as their record.

I do believe, at least for now, this silly discussion was settled on the field today. of course, we're only barely into the 3rd qtr.

Mike....it was silly. I can change the diction if you like......and the peanut gallery talk isn't my battle! perhaps some clarity: I was referring to McD5's graphic and the implication that one QB is being glorified while another...with the same stats (as posted), is not. I stick to my position - that was settled, for the time being, on the field. the idea was silly right from the git go.

Ok, can we touch on pocket presence that's been said to be one of Cousins strong points...... or the lack there of today. I can't even get a feed right now, as they switched to the dallas game, so I don't know if Kirk has limited his turnovers to 3, or has there been more at this point... I'm scared to look in general, as I know it's not Just Cousins killing us today.

Down by 30, 21 of those points can be pretty much attributed to Cousins turning it over. Still hard to see any real future when we can only win at home, and against teams in as bad of shape as us or worse.
 
It's the line. He wasn't bailing on the pocket leaving his line in a lurch to protect him. Guys coming from behind or the blind side are not Kirks fault. They weren't caused by holding the ball too long. The run blocking is poor and they give up on the run as a result. Gruden or the OC is not good at scheming quick passes I associate the West Coast with to substitute the short game. This team is still talent poor. Gonna take several years. All this talk about competing for the division in a down year is unwarranted. We still aren't a good team. We have made improvement, and are playing better against weaker teams than we have, but we're still not a very good team and it shows.
 
There were several times in the first half I thought a draw play or a screen might have slowed down the D enough to make a bit of a difference as the game went on, but we didn't call either. And I didn't see any quick-hitting, three step drop slant patterns called either. Something to keep the D off balance, and allow us to run the ball. No misdirection on the few running plays we did call either.
 
5 sacks today. That is unacceptable regardless who is behind center
