Morris time. For several reasons.

I think that guy is on the roster Henry.

He's only had a few games to judge him on, and he's been on the injury list the last few weeks.

I also think that Howie Long probably knows a little more than we do. Actually, I'm sure that he knows a lot more than we do.

Only time will tell, but if we aren't giving him a big contract next year, then I'd like to get something for him instead of nothing.

It never ceases to amaze me when folks think that the players that are not performing strongly for us are worth valuable picks to another team.

Read that last sentence again. Might give us a clue as to why we'd keep Morris around.

About football, sure.

About the Redskins? If you choose to believe so.

Usually they wouldn't be, unless there was a clear scheme issue. And if the acquiring team is desperate, or if they believe a playoff run is possible, the player becomes more attractive.

And teams are incredibly desperate right now. Like KC, the Jets and even the Saints:

New Orleans Saints to sign RB Tim Hightower after injury to Khiry Robinson | NOLA.com

That's incredible desperation.

I know people love the guy for both what he's done on the field, as well as for the person he is off of it.

I'm really surprised that Redskins fans especially are discounting the likelihood of a bad scheme fit. We should know better than most.

How many pedestrian RBs looked great with Shanny's zone blocking scheme? Total nobodies who became world beaters with Shanahan's zone blocking? Reuben Droughns, Olandis Gary and Tatum Bell were a few.

Well that blocking scheme is gone now. So what do we have left?

Do we have a RB that can adapt to a power scheme? Or do we have a Shanny zone blocking runner?

You post these things like this and act like you aren't being as surprising and off base as those you accuse of being that way. The new Orleans situation has nothing to do with us, Howie long has no insider information, Shanahan has been gone and now gruden is responsible for these failures.

Oh I'm not discounting the possibility that the scheme is a bad fit. I'm sure that's part of it. I'm sure it's more that than it is Morris suddenly turning into a bad player.

I'm not particularly attached to Morris. I think he's a solid guy and a productive player. If someone proves to be better than he is that someone should start.

My problem with what's going on is not the possibility that Morris could be benched or let go at the end of the season (he's not going to be traded so that point is moot.)

My problem is that this team continues to lose talent and to turn perfectly decent, productive players into drek because of the constant changes in scheme due to the constant turnover in the front office. I am, frankly, shocked that Gruden thus far has proven incapable of utilizing most of the talent he's been given on offense, that he's hell-bent on yet again completely changing this team's entire offensive philosophy with apparently no starting players on our current roster capable of helping him achieve that goal. I expect most coaches to turn rosters over eventually. I expect GOOD coaches to use the talent they have in the meantime. To hold down the fort with what they have while that turnover happens. Gruden does not seem able at ALL to do that, and I find that troubling.

I hope he figures it all out. I hope that, I don't know, we somehow manage to turn 3-4 into 8-8 or something and then next season we actually look good. I'm not seeing that. This team is beating bad teams at home by the skin of it's teeth in the last minute of the game. We have a BRUTAL stretch of games coming up. We have a project at QB throwing 40+ passes a game, an average at best defense. We have no running game at the moment, and the talk of the board is not "WTF is wrong with our offense" but instead seems to be how awesome it would be to trade the one player offense who had, up until now, actually consistently produced over the past three years for a 4th round pick, plus a unicorn and/or rainbow to be named later so that we can bring a guy up from the practice squad to help fill out the roster.

None of this really fills me a sense of confidence, I gotta say.

I have a feeling that the Redskins will let Morris walk after this season, and he ends up having a monster season next year somewhere else. This whole situation feels very similar to the Stephen Davis situation. In both cases, you have a guy who has been a great RB for a few years, yet you have a coach that prefers another type of RB for his system. The styles of the coaches and the system they run are completely different, but I see a lot of similarities in how this situation is playing out.

I still think if I saw Spurrier in public, it would be very difficult not to punch him.

How is the Saints signing Hightower, a player who has been in their system and is probably being added as insurance and at a prorated minimum, germain to the discussion?

Only as an illustration to show how far teams will dig right now if they believe they can make a run.

KC would seem ideal. 2 game winning streak, still in the mix and their star RB just went down for the year. Morris also seems like an Andy Reid type of guy.

The problem though is that they don't do much zone blocking. So they may have no interest.

henry....even closer to home:

- Jones has a history of injuries and...as we have seen...some fumbling issues

- Thompson has an injury history

- either one is hurt....who fills the void?

there are trade-offs in all of this: lesser productivity due to rotation management versus depth is the primary one in my book.

we do know this.....both of the primary RBs looked good early on. it can be done.

Yeah, I don't see it that way at all. Incapable of utilizing talent? I see player improvement almost everywhere.

On offense, Chris Thompson, Moses, Crowder, Grant and others are coming along nicely. And of course, Cousins. Jordan Reed also continues to improve.

It's just a scheme change. Regardless of who the coach is down the road, Scot seems to like that Frank Gore, Todd Gurley/shot out of a cannon type of runner.

What you see is our GM drafting players that might actually not suck.

That's not a reflection on the coach's ability to coach the players that are currently on the roster.

If Thompson, Moses and Jones are so great and yet we still can't run the ball, that should tell you something.

Player improvement is not team improvement. If we are improving talent-wise everywhere yet our offense still languishes and in many cases is performing worse than it has over the previous two years (21st in yards per pass attempt, 28 in yards per rush, 25th in overall yards, 21st in scoring) the problem isn't the talent.

An please, let's not overstate the abilities of our opponents. The 51 rushing yards we got against the Falcons was the lowest they've held anyone to all season long. The 34 we got against the Jets was the second lowest (the lowest being the Pats who simply didn't need to stop passing.) The 50 we rushed for against Tampa was the lowest they've given up all season long. Those are our last three games.

So again. The problem runs deeper than the players. It ain't Morris.

We're off to our best start since 2012. And sadly, one of our best starts in the last 8 years.

That's big team improvement.

The previous four seasons we've started out 3-5.

We are currently 3-4, with the Patriots, in New England, on deck.

If you are suggesting the we are experiencing some overall, dramatic improvement to this point ... I'm not sure I agree. If we beat the Pats I'll be thrilled to re-evaluate my position.

But this thread is really about the run game, yes? It's dramatically worse than it's been in a long time. And yet, somehow we are focussed on blaming the one player that was actually around when the running game was not terrible.

Well, I'll only speak for myself here, but I don't think anyone is "blaming Alfred" for our running game woes.

It's pretty clear defenses are keying on our run game, and our blocking--OL, TE's, WR's--is having a hard time clearing lanes against stacked lines.

What I WILL say, and have been saying since early in the year, is that Alfred looks to me like he's not running the ball as well as in previous years. We're hearing that same thought echoed now by a lot of observers.

Can't we acknowledge both apparent truths? That the run game overall is struggling, AND that Alfred doesn't look right?

Or have we devolved around here to the point everything gets reduced to a simple either/or?

We were very good in 2012 with RG3. He was unable to adapt to a new scheme.

Alfred was very good years ago. We'll see if he can adapt to a new scheme.

You can't cross a desert without losing a few ponies.

At the end of the year, if Scot believes that he was coached poorly, then he'll fire the coaches. If he believes that Alfred doesn't fit his scheme then Alfred will be gone.

Only time will tell.

you can't cross a desert without a plan for how to get to the destination.

why is firing the coaches or Alfred the only option?
