The Gruden Files - Year Two

Gruden is t play calling, right? Isn't that established???? If it is why do we keep attributing every decision to Gruden?

You either have the stomach for rebuilding or you don't.

Come on John, don't give me that. The analogy here is that Gruden is tearing down every damned room in the house when we had a perfectly good kitchen (AlMo) that was working fine and didn't need to be replaced.

I'm not saying drafting Jones was a bad idea - depth is NEVER a bad idea and the kid looks really talented to me. But why Gruden is trying to force him into a role for which it doesn't look like he is ready, when he has a perfectly good RB who needs more carries to get going in beyond me. There is NO evidence Morris is on the decline. None. Nada. Gruden gave him a lot of carries against the Fins, AND HE PERFORMED. Well. Really well.

Sure seems like a case of the coach out-thinking himself. We used to scream about Kyle with this same kind of shit - having to be the smartest guy in the room. This reeks of that to me.

Because he benched RG3 and some are still pissed. :)

People don't realize that they're actually really complaining about Callahan.

Let's not be so fast to run Callahan out of town. :)

can you just slow down with the over the top posts for a little bit? If you are just trying to get people pissed it is getting to be too much. Some of us attribute the problems to Gruden because he is the head coach and the guy who is supposed to be in charge and it has nothing to do with Griffin.

OR, it's because we see boy-genius repeating history by playing favorites with players; and this time, Morris is on the chopping block. Morris who has done things no other RB in Redskins history has done. You're on record saying we should trade him for a ham sandwich, I get that. But some of us aren't distracted by the shiny new toy in the driveway when we've got a perfectly capable Mazda sitting out on the street.

Shame our coach thinks the same way you do.

But he's not calling the running plays.

If Callahan calls an outside running play designed for Chris Thompson, then he's the one who is going away from Morris.

If you scroll back over the last few pages of posts, substituting "Callahan" for "Gruden" in nearly every single post would be more accurate.

So, the head coach isn't the guy who is ultimately in charge? Then why is he even up there if he is just a Bruce Allen figurehead type?

I don't need to scroll back to any post...I know who is supposed to be in charge of all the coaches and making all the final decisions. I just wish the inciting and over the top posts would slow down so we can talk to each other instead of at each other.

I'm ignoring posts like that.

I saw someone post something to the effect of "Gruden messed up RG3, and now he's going to mess up Morris too." Maybe by Al? Not sure.

When those posters realize that it's really Callahan they are attacking, that anger will subside and the board will be more enjoyable.

So you're contending that Gruden has no control over Callahan? Why are we paying Gruden at all then?

If I was Gruden, I would be a little pissed that the guy who carried whatever offense we had last year was getting around 30 carries over the last three games. That's not great. If I wanted to win, I would have a chat with Callahan about using the guy who we KNOW is good a little more.

But maybe Gruden is too busy staring into Kirk's eyes?

No, it is not Callahan people are attacking no matter how many times you say it. Some of us (myself included) have made it perfectly clear who we hold responsible and who we believe is responsible for the ultimate decisions made on this team. he is the HEAD coach of the team...not the QB Head Coach, not the Shared Head Coach...but THE head coach. Please stop saying that we need to "realize" something just because you believe it. It doesn't make things fact, it makes it your opinion that you are trying to force on us.

Bull ****ing shit McD.

Gruden approves the plays for every upcoming series. Run or pass. And can change any one, at any time.

You're Gruden worship is far more hysterical than everyone you accuse of Griffin worship.

Jeezus!

I suppose Gruden should be calling all the defensive plays too? Why do we need Joe Barry or Fewell?

Gruden is the HC. He's ultimately responsible for everyone he hires.

In this particular case, the running game......posters are really attacking Callahan and his play-calling.

why on Earth are you stuck on the offensive LINE coach calling the offensive plays? Wouldn't McVay be more of the guy to call the offensive plays?

And, yes, if the defense is in a bind the head coach better be involved in the conversation to stop them on every aspect.

You know what though, since you can't stop repeating the same post over and over just to get people pissed I'm done with you. You aren't going to get under my skin this time. Have a good day and good luck with your fight.

Because Callahan calls the running plays.

Gruden and McVay call the passing plays.

Regardless who calls the plays, it's been questionable. Ultimately, the responsibility for that resides with the HC...

Honestly, you don't know if even one of those declarations is true. I don't either but I guess I have some belief that the fans don't know more than the coaching staff and that our decision makers aren't incompetent. I get a lot of you think you do know and that's your right. I think I am also 100% correct that there is a total lack of patience amongst this fan base. Sorry.

Well here's the thing. If you believe everyone out of Dallas, and our local beat reporters...Keim....etc...Callahan wanted to call plays in Dallas and they said no. He then became very pissed off.

Part of the selling point in getting him here was that we would give him an opportunity to call some running plays.

We're 5 games into the season. Do we piss him off right now, or do we continue to monitor his run play-calling for a longer period of time?

Think big picture. What makes the most sense in regard to his future here? And do you want to include Callahan in that rebuild?

You guys talk like we're 0-14 and getting crushed. We're improved, we're competitive and we're one game out of the NFC East lead. I don't understand all the vitriol and disgust.

Come on man. Go check. I was one of the first people to post that I was incredibly encouraged about the loss to the Falcons because I saw a lot of positive signs - both in the players AND in the coaches. I'm not looking for a playoff push this year, I'll be happy with continued signs of progress, and maybe us winning a couple of those kinds of games late in the year.

I remember during the Zorn years, up until the end, people were preaching patience, that Zorn had to find his way or something. Hell, I was probably one of them. But in retrospect, how long would we have had to wait for Zorn to find his way?

I'm not saying Gruden=Zorn; I am saying that he's making a mistake with the RBs, IMO. I have seen some signs that he is improving as a head coach, just as I have seen some signs Kirk is improving as a QB. I don't think it's crazy for me (or anyone else) to point out that I disagree with how he has handled the RBs. Doesn't mean I'm impatient, it means I think he is screwing up in this one area.
