Random Commanders Thoughts

Different times. In Joe's day, you could say exactly what Rob did and maybe 500 people would read about it in the Post the next day. And maybe one would write a snarky letter to the editor that exactly noboby would read. Today, it's instant viral news because it's low-hanging fruit. Also, Joe T quarterbacked a championship contender.

Again though, I really don't care about what Rob said unless it's causing problems in the locker room. End of the day I just wish he'd listen to Crash Davis counseling Nuke Laloosh on talking to the media.
So, you think we should call him meat and tell the defenses what he's gonna throw? Or make him wear the rose to the front?

You may run like Mayes but you hit like shit!!

But what is there to be self aware about? It was an innocent comment (we all agreed) that was twisted, chopped, and spit out for the world to use.

There's no such thing as an innocent comment when you're under a microscope..... a high draft pick that has had serious shortcomings, and play for Washington. It's kind of sad, but true. Robert could say he likes Quilted Northern instead of Charmin and the media will roll out the negative stories. Doesn't matter about context, or any other relevant facts, Robert will get the shit end of the stick every time he opens his mouth with more then a yes or no answer.

Ya know, while he hasn't helped his case once again with a minor injury, people seem to have written off Reed completely. We have more then one guy with a hammy right now, but Reed is the only one people are bitchin about being injury prone? A strained hammy in camp is about as common as flies on dog doo. We just signed an OLB that is coming off a a torn pec injury. It's a common injury for OLB's apparently, and often recurrent after the first instance. Nobody takes issue with that, even though it's the same injury that was a big issue in weather we retained Rak or not. We need a solid back up TE, not a starter. Reed has had a run of bad luck, and if the gods actually say WTF, and smile on us letting him stay on the field all season, Reed is a game changer.

I'm frustrated too, but instant gratification isn't the answer. This is a player we really need to give some time to get his shit in good order. He's destine to be a star, and I'd like it to be with the Skins....

A strained hammy in training camp is one thing, to miss games on a regular and consistent basis is another. Reed has a lot of problems with his hammies as this is, what, the 5th or 6th time he has missed in his career due to the same injury. To me, that makes him injury prone.

Fair enough, but right now, it's just a hammy in training camp. All he's missed is some practice and a few snaps in a useless game. Maybe there being ultra cautious... Gruden saying he needs to have him right for Miami..... Of all our guys running routs, Reed seems to be the best at adjusting to the ball, makes the most of match ups, and can likely produce with little to no time in preseason games, and I think Gruden knows that.

Time will tell my friend.

I feel like I'm the best member on the site, and I have to go out and show that. Any poster at any level, if they concede to someone else, they're not a top competitor, they're not trying to be the best that they can be.
There's guys on this site that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that's what I work toward every single day.
Ax would like a word with you.
No Sir. My supreme confidence precludes me from getting upset over such false assertions.
I respect others striving to reach my unattainable level of awesomeness. Fruitless as it may be. :)

Ax, have you ever considered becoming a motivational speaker ?
I mean, besides your other countless, monumental accomplishments, wouldn't it bring even greater emotional fulfillment and "life purpose", to see others at least come remotely close to your awesomeness, by looking up to your mentorship, and becoming Mini-Axes ?
Of course, you wouldn't feel threatened by their rise to awesomeness, since it stood no chance to matching yours, but just to see your own awesomeness spread into others even in a small degree must hold potential for great fulfillment.

well...it doesn't hurt to Ax!

All Hail: Generation Ax!

And the folks who learn at the great one's feet? It won't be Axidental!

Anything he passes is..as we all know...Axiomatically true!

It's not just a strained hammy, it's ANOTHER hamstring injury! When a player is as injury prone as he is, the last thing he needs is a repeat of his injury concerns. A lot of players have had their career cut short from less! The more he injures it, his value decreases. No point in suiting up a player if he is only going to be fit for the first two drives!

Lets see what he does in the regular season. There's 'injury prone' and sometimes there's bad luck. I don't know that any of us can magically determine which it is. Time will tell. This is a make or break year for Reed too.

Reed gets a lot of slack on this board...I've never really understood why but I definitely notice it.

He did say exactly what the media is reporting he said. He tried to qualify it, and yeah, I believe he meant something entirely different than what it is being twisted to represent. But that was a dumbass Joe Biden thing to say :) I had to read his comments several times myself to figure out what he was trying to say...

No-he doesn't have to bend over backwards- he can just keep on having diarrhea of the mouth and being cavalier with his word choices and create unnecessary distractions for his team. I guarantee you his coaches wish he would learn how to say the same vanilla shit other NFL QBs say every day :)

No they aren't Boone. If they leave out the rest of the quote which gives a totally different contextual view then they are lying by omittion and false implication. It's not accurate at all. I get what you guys are saying but I believe that RG is held to an unfair standard that other QB's just aren't. I could give a BUNCH of quotes from different QB's (let alone other position players) but it doesn't seem necessary to give more than one that I'm stealing from John "Bang" Tayman:

Joe Flacco:
"I assume everybody thinks they're a top-five quarterback," Flacco said when asked where he thinks he ranks among NFL quarterbacks. "I mean, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'm top five, I think I'm the best. I don't think I'd be very successful at my job if I didn't feel that way. I mean, c'mon? That's not really too tough of a question.

"That doesn't mean that things are going to work out that way. It just means that's the way it is -- that's the way I feel that it is and that's the way I feel it should be."

I can't for the life of me see any difference at all from Griffin's quote. Resume? Not enough to slay RG and prop up FLACCO IMO. I've seen Winston display a LOT more chutzpah on one of his quiet days but the whole country doesn't see to freak out about it. I dunno about racism but SOMETHING is fishy and stinks.

edit: Eli is asking to be the highest paid player in the league...think he thinks he's the best? Won two super bowls but come close to setting records for poor play in some of his off years. He was so bad at one point that Giants fans were almost unanimously calling for his head.

Whether we like it or not Mike, at some level Griffin and every one of us owns some responsibility for how our words are perceived. I might not mean to sexually harass someone. But if my words are perceived as 'sexual' that is a problem and I need to adjust my behavior if I don't want to be perceived that way. Believe me, at heart I am a Libertarian and we all have the right to say what we want. But we also don't live in a bubble and our words are only half of the communication process - how they are received is the other half and we are not powerless in delivering words more carefully. That's true for all of us - at work, at home, and even on message boards.

That's a slippery slope John and exactly the logic the name changers are attempting to use.

Im not talking about whats right and wrong - I'm talking about having some common sense about who you are talking to and how comments may be perceived. I don't think thats a controversial position, sorry :)

Agreed but at some point ya have to draw a line in the sand and stand your ground or allow your life to be ruled by PR. Screw that, as Om says as long as it's not making locker room waves, say what you have to and screw em if they twist it. As long as your teammates understand the fans and the media can go pound sand. Just my perspective but we've seen that even when he takes months off from social media or talking to the media he still gets just slayed. He's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't. Just be himself, work hard and let the rest of the chips fall where they may. To quote a poster from CPND..."Eff the Media".

When fit and in game shape, Reed can be unstoppable, but the trouble is he will play only part of the season until injury strikes. I remember a few years ago that a certain LB injured a hammie during a game, only to go out to a nightclub later that night. Down here, if a player injures a hammie during a game, he instantly starts on rehabbing the injury. No thoughts whatsoever about going to a nightclub that night. So, what turned out to be a two week minimum injury turned into a 6 week injury, and he had problems with it until he retired.

Sweet mother of Mary ... stop talking, Bob.

Lesser men become motivational speakers. Which is fine. The world needs them too.

It is through the brilliance of my subtlety, that I far surpass that of the obvious. I simply allow my presence, to spark the inner awesome, inside of everyone. So that they, like you, believe their own awesomeness, is of their own doing. It means more. It allows mere mortals, to feel equal to super-humans, such as myself. I don't require acknowledgement of my awesomeness, and there is no "emotional fulfillment".
For, I am life's purpose.

You're welcome.

PS ~ They're called, hatchets. Mini-Ax's would only remind them of, he. Which they can never be. Why rub it in? :)
