Random Commanders Thoughts

I'm not with ya on this one Boone. When you look at what he actually said there is nothing at all wrong with it, quite the opposite in fact. The sticking point here is you and others critical seem to think he needs to bend over backwards to phrase things carefully or not comment at all in order to avoid having people flat out lie about what he said. To me life's too short, say what you have to say, if they can't accurately represent that then screw em.

Funny how the group divides in to the RGIII apologists and the "haters". Whatever, I don't understand how folks can look at it as black and white then make judgements. Its not a black and white issue (no racial pun intended).

Here's my only problem with what Robert said, and he has had this problem many times before. He doesn't get the fact that there is more to this team than himself. It is a team and the players will determine his success or failure. Griffin hasn't lived up to his expectations. He won't admit that to anyone including himself. But here's the problem, if he truly believe in his own hype, then when he fails, its because of the lousy team he's on. He's done this before and became a distraction. We don't need not stinkin distractions. Stop throwing your teammates under the bus. He hasn't done it yet this year, but this comment was setting it up for later. Open your eyes, the emperor has no clothes.

Robert has to grow up and become a great teammate first, before he can live up to his expectations. You don't get to "anoint" yourself king, doesn't work that way. I'm afraid he won't learn humility until he's out of Washington.

How is that on Griffin? The mediots could and should still talk about all stories. It's the fault of society for wanting the gossip, craving the drama, and feeding in to this. He just gave an answer to a simple question.

It's not on Griffin that this is developing.... what is on Griffin is that he continues to not adjust himself to remove these opportunities from the equation.

I work in my Chantilly store where we answer the phone for multiple locations.... were a 'call center' of sorts. Most of my locations have ZERO problem executing their aspect of things with basic (and what you would think to be more then adequate) information. We have 1 location that constantly struggles, messing up deliveries to customers, giving incorrect information to shops, struggles with processing special orders....etc. After these issues with this one location (with the same information provided as the multiple other locations we handle) we as a group finally decided we would go out of our way to be OVER informative when dealing with the 'problem spot.' WE changed OUR way to compensate because we knew if we didn't do it a certain way, execution would be lacking. Is it OUR fault? Nope. Why should we have to change if the other places have no problem?

On the surface of it, it would make sense for that 'problem spot' to fix their issue and that we could stand up for ourselves, saying it's not fair for US to have to change who 'WE' are in order to compensate. Here's the issue with that. WE are responsible for the customer being taken care of, and if we KNOW they are going to mess up and we let it happen, we also have a level of responsibility in the situation. We have that level of awareness to look at it and make sure we do it in a way to eliminate as much possibility for an issue. He needs to look at himself the same way... even if it's not (at it's core) his responsibility.

The Media is going to find a way to turn something, and coming out and saying "I'm the best in the league" regardless of what he says before or after that is a MAJOR hot button. It's going to blow up, it's going to have an effect, and it's going to be a story.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that Griffin dealing with the media and the store lacking intelligence are 2 completely separate things. Griffin has people coming to him and asking him question after question, day after day. He gave a simple answer that he needs to prove he's the best.

I guess I don't see how a store not following instructions is the same as someone bring asked their thoughts.

Silent: I appreciate your pov and recognize how one can reach that position.

However, I disagree profoundly. It's all hyped up. Griffin has kept quiet this off-season. He makes a comment that in context is not inflammatory at all - and the media pundits immediately work over-time to exploit it. THAT'S THE PROBLEM!!!!! they are intentionally working to stir the pot - the fanbase then falls in lock-step. it's an old, old formula. create the phantom of a crisis and then have everyone else affirm it.

I don't hear ANYONE in the media examining some of the obvious. for example, why didn't the Shanahans begin the process of grooming Griffin as a pocket passer RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING? I have my idea: it wasn't in their interest. so....not only did they get the guy physically killed, they delayed his development/learning process by a year and then drove it all into the ground the second year. where griffin sits today is a complex mix of his own history as a QB, his character, the pathetic manner in which this team has been run from the FO, and the selfish, ego-centric coaches who have manned the rail. there's blame to go all-around. guarantee McL saw it and sees it. he's playng out the string with Griffin cuz he knows he would have handled it differently from the git-go.

the ONLY thing I find relevant in all of this is Griffin's ability to anticipate and make the right decision. everything else, IMO, is simply tactical maneuvers that have no real bearing. not only that, a huge chunk of "everything else" is trivial.

You'd think the boy just beat his wife's face black and blue on live tv, while high on cocaine, stolen from the police evidence room, after a high speed chase where 17 schoolchildren were run off the road and fell 1,000 feet to their deaths.

This is a story because of 24/7 sports talk radio, and internet message boards.

The media will make up something if they have to. Or, like here, twist a simple balloon into the form of a meteor about to strike the earth.

I feel like I'm the best member on the site, and I have to go out and show that. Any poster at any level, if they concede to someone else, they're not a top competitor, they're not trying to be the best that they can be.
There's guys on this site that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that's what I work toward every single day.

Ax would like a word with you.
No Sir. My supreme confidence precludes me from getting upset over such false assertions.

I respect others striving to reach my unattainable level of awesomeness. Fruitless as it may be. :)

If you KNOW the Media is going to take what you say and spin it, and you still say it... a certain level of responsibility is on you, as crappy as that sounds. If you know your car is going to get stolen if you leave your keys in the ignition, and you still do it... part of my response is "well what did you expect to happen?"

Would you feel bad about what you said if you gave that answer? Or would you think that dude is just looking for something and know you didn't mean or say it?

I can say, "I love you" all I want but if you don't believe it or want to find a negative thing about it....you will.

You're 10000000% correct. The media is HORRIBLE with stuff like this. I understand his message and thought process... YOU understand it... even the media folks reporting it understand it, but they do what they need to do to sell papers and generate mouse clicks. They are trolls, but my point is STOP FEEDING THE TROLL.

Would I feel bad? Nope. Would I make sure to be more careful about HOW I worded things next time? Yep, without thinking twice about it. I can't control that guy, what I can control is what I give him though.

Dozens of questions....everyday. I'd feel bad if I had said "I'm better than Peyton" but he really didn't. He just said he was the best because he has to believe it.

And here's the NFL's Facebook page. You can always count on the league to throw gas on the fire. Whatever keeps the fans watching.

I don't want him to feel bad... I want him to have enough self awareness that he thinks about what he's saying, and makes sure it's not going to be used against him. I know it's crappy, but like you said the media / social media now sucks. Technology has evolved the need for people in the public eye to need to adjust themselves as part of their profession.

But what is there to be self aware about? It was an innocent comment (we all agreed) that was twisted, chopped, and spit out for the world to use. He didn't just say he was the best...he explained why everyone thinks that. I'd put more blame on the mediots/fans for buying in to it than the guy who just said he needs to believe he's the best and has to go prove it.

I don't wanna beat this horse too much. I know some love how gruden is during press conferences and some don't. Some take what I say with a grain of salt and some get insulted. I guess it's a matter of perspective and what you're looking to see.

Personally, I have tried to ignore reporting based on tweets and other abridged or reformatted quotes. I'd rather hear the whole thing first hand and surmise from there. The nediots sdure know how to push our fan buttons and I refuse to play their get clicks game.

so...there's a middle ground here somewhere. I get where you are coming from. the distraction doesn't happen if you don't invite it.

on the flip side...there comes a point where you can't allow others to control your life, control what you say, control what you do.

there are competing objectives here......the best way to put it I guess.

anywho, I have no quarrel with you and suspect a healthy cut of fans feel the same way.

btw...as you know Mike....Naval Aviators are TAUGHT(!!!!) to think like that from day 1! from the worst to the best pilot.....told we are the best. there's a reason they do that. same with SEALs. AF pilots? even their jodies proudly mark how they are second best in the world!!!

cmon Capt Chaos....grow up.
