If he's gonna ignore it and use his own, I would expect his version to come out BETTER for us although it was still pretty even.

Yea I watched the whole thing and was not that impressed either.
Didn't do anything spectacular, really.
He actually got manhandled every time he went against La'el Collins.
And even got handled, when he went against other linemen.

The best you can say, is he got a couple sacks, and some pressure on a couple plays.
Was double-teamed a little bit. And he played basically every position on the line.

BUT.....it was only a highlight reel of one game.
I'd have to see his season or career highlights to make a final judgment.
 
Yeah..I think it was just that reel. The kid is pretty good.
 
That wasn't supposed to be a highlight reel. I'm sure his season highlight reel looks fantastic.

That was just to see how he really looks in a game against top competition.

I'm especially impressed by how many positions he plays.
 
Yeah I'm not that hip with the value chart but I think we bettered ourselves tremendously. We did move down but still stayed in the round while gaining 3 more chances at players.

Wasn't that long ago when we were the ones giving 1/2 our draft for a player or 2.
 
In reference to the trade with the Seahawks, McLuv's could be heard from the adjacent floor repeating the phrase....

Here is our final mock (updated) for 2015 as the draft continues today. Thanks for all of the compliments, comments, and participation. We’ll continue to update this thread as UDFAs are added and any other FAs are signed in the upcoming days, weeks, and months.

We would like to hear your ideas and thoughts about the draft picks, free agency, team cuts, and anything else related to these subjects.

The prospect list has been updated to reflect players that are still available. Players chosen by other teams have been deleted for obvious reasons.

Without any further delays, let’s take a look at our final mock.


Mock Draft, 2015​


Round One: Brandon Scherff, OT/OG, Iowa

GM McCloughan stated his preference for “big uglies” who are nasty, mean, and aggressive. Scherff is arguably the best tackle/guard/offensive lineman on the board and the Redskins have now added him to the offensive line. According to a team source, Scherff was rated higher than the fifth overall choice by the Redskins. He is a beast in the running game and good in pass protection. Playing in the powerful Big Ten, he more than held his own against quality competition. He will start from day one and be a mainstay for the next dozen years or more. The Redskins reportedly have already named him the starting RT. Here is a video that describes the choice.

Round Two: Preston Smith, OLB/DE, Mississippi St.

We also take the GM at his word that he wants an edge rushing OLB and was able to snag an absolute powerhouse of a player. The All-SEC OLB/DE is a hybrid prospect that will play primarily standing up, but can be placed at end in some 4-3 formations. He is an explosive player who will allow Trent Murphy to move inside to ILB and form a powerful linebacker corps. Smith is strong at the point of attack and has superior edge rushing skills. Rotoworld had him listed as the thirteenth overall rated player in this draft and BBQ never mocked him only due to thinking he would go in the mid to late first round. An absolute steal. Round Three: Matt Jones, RB, Florida

Why not? The GM did say that he was looking to add good players for Robert Griffin, III and this selection continues that process. When looking for a third down back, the Redskins go back to the SEC and find a bruiser. With the departure of Roy Helu to the Raiders, the Redskins find more than just a replacement. The Redskins get the better end of this deal as Jones is a superb receiver out of the backfield and a solid blocker in the passing game. Jones is a large, punishing back who can specialize in short yardage situations. One team had him listed as their top rated running back in the draft. We wonder what team… Patterns his game after Marshawn Lynch. Strong and physical, he has a workhorse capability and should be a very solid special teams contributor. Round Four:

The Redskins traded down in round three with Seattle and received picks in the fourth, fifth, and sixth rounds.

Round Four: Tre Jackson, OG, Florida St.
Yes, the GM wants the “big uglies” and wants them now. The massively sized ACC lineman is a force on the offensive line. He is a player who engages defensive linemen with a nasty attitude and with great leverage against defenders. Jackson holds his ground against the best defensive tackles and struggles a bit against pass rushing DEs. Thus, he is better on the inside and not projected to be an OT.

Round Four: Durell Eskridge, FS, Syracuse
The Redskins add a talented free safety/strong safety from the ACC as McCloughan shores up the secondary. Eskridge played FS, but he can play SS in the NFL as well. He will have the luxury of spending a year learning the system with no pressure of starting, but he could force Dashon Goldson or Jeron Johnson to the bench as the season progresses. With the newfound depth at S via free agency and from the draft, the Redskins will have size, speed, strength, depth, and needed talents at these two vital positions. Will likely be a very good special teams player.

Round Five: Nick Boyle, TE, Delaware
The GM was true to his word and added plenty of size and muscle to the offensive line. In essence, McCloughan continues to add more beef to the line. Boyle comes from the Colonial Athletic Conference and can snag his share of receptions, but blocking is his forte. He could be inserted in both running and passing packages. Could be a huge steal at this juncture of the draft and has the ability to be a special teams standout.

Round Five: Taiwan Jones, ILB, Michigan St.
The Big Ten prospect has excellent size to go along with a solid game at the middle/inside linebacker position. He has a great burst to the ball, even after quickly shedding blocks. Jones is more of a running game specialist and has some weaknesses in the passing game – somewhat hidden when called upon to blitz – an area where he is very effective. Should be an excellent core player on special teams.

Round Six: Joey Mbu, DT, Houston
The Redskins had a private workout with Mbu and the interest in him is apparently very real. He has the size to shed blockers and often did so when excelling in the run defense. Not a pass rushing specialist, but was expected to occupy blockers and did so effectively against quality AAC competition. He could sub for Knighton at times when needed.

Round Six: Max Garcia, C, Florida
The Redskins weren’t intending to take another offensive lineman, but they do go for BPA at this juncture in the draft and come away with an absolute steal and gem. Coming from Gator Nation and the SEC, Garcia is a team favorite and leader who visits the weight room regularly. He more than held his own at the Senior Bowl against highly rated prospects Danny Shelton and Carl Davis. He could be a day one starter.

Round Seven: Connor Halliday, QB, Washington St.
The Redskins GM was at the Washington St. pro day workout to see the PAC 12 record setter perform in cold, rainy, raw conditions. He was nothing short of impressive in the horrible weather. Halliday would be rated higher, but suffered a grueling ankle injury last season. Only recently has he fully healed and was able to impress at his pro day. Some would say that Halliday has the “it” factor that McCloughan covets and could be an absolute steal at this point in the draft.

The GM has two excellent corners in Culliver and Breeland, but depth is needed and a reliable nickel CB is desired. Wilson has excellent speed and was able to more than hold his own in the pass-happy Big 12. He played both corner and free safety. Wilson figures to be drafted and installed as a nickel cornerback and possibly see some work at free safety. He has the size that McCloughan covets and could contribute immediately on special teams.

Not trying to piss in anyone's cheerios, but we got almost exactly what the draft chart says we should have for trading down, right? It was a routine by-the-books trade down. I'm fine with it if that's what McLovin thinks is best, but we didn't get anything more than standard value for our pick.
 
BB - on your description of Matt Jones.... He's not particularly fast, almost every scouting report I've read says he isn't an instinctive runner and tends to plow straight ahead (ie...isn't gifted at finding the hole or seam). He also has a fumbling history, and has already had at least one meniscus surgery. Some scouting reports say he has good hands, but he wasn't asked to catch passes much at Florida, so I think saying he's a superb receiver is hard to support. By all accounts, he is big, strong, tenacious, and a hard runner. That's all I'm willing to say on the positive side. I still think it's a curious pick, not because we don't need a RB, but because he was projected more as a 4th, 5th, or 6th rounder.
 
What I love about our 3 picks so far is the one common thread I see - toughness. All 3 of these guys have reps for being, mean, tough, gritty, tenacious styles. That's what you need to dominate the NFC East.
 
One thing I didn't give credit for, that BB rightfully referenced - Matt Jones is a pretty damn good blocker. Since we could very well be used in 3rd down situations, that's a very big plus. The kid doesn't just block, he enjoys doing it. We haven't had a back like that in quite awhile.
 
Boring draft with no sizzle...just steak. We need a few more of these drafts and we'll be a true contender.

Hey nickname crowd....the new RB needs a nickname...calling him by his given name is reminding me too much of a cocaine snorting, ex qb, turned crappy, always hurt, reciever.
 
Matt Jones can play. In the highlight video below, you can see why McLovin is so high on him.

He's surprisingly fast for his size, can catch, and can move a pile. I know the Marshawn Lynch comparisons sound absurd at first, but take a look.

He also has great lateral movement for a power runner.

It's always possible we had intel that someone else had him in their sights if we waited, just seems a little unlikely and have to think we could have gotten him a round later. But I could be totally wrong - I don't have the info the guys pulling the trigger do.
 
Boone - Jones ran a 4.55 at his pro day, that's acceptable range for a guy that goes 6'2 and 231 and figures to be an OT-OT rusher.
