Arrington Pulls No Punches at Former Employer in WJFK Debut

Maybe the restaurant filed for bankruptcy and is still open.

This is one of those times I am glad I am in Texas.

I have so little use for Lavar. He could sing praises for everyone I know and I would still bitch that he sang off key.

Credibility

You would think that, as a former NFL player, Lavar would be credible. Unfortunately, the negative baggage he carries from his Redskins days undermines that. It's okay to be critical. I just want those opinions to be based on facts. Back-up your ideas with real information, don't just spout-off to hear yourself talk.

Lavar [and other radio personalities] are often self-serving in their criticisms in an attempt to build their audience by being controversial. I guess I can't fault them for that, but it's another reason to take what they say with a grain of salt.

Especially if the 106.7 is supposed to be the anti-980, or whatever you want to call it. They're going to get the "these guys speak the truth" audience and could say the sky was green, but have a few people still believe them.

If I'm being honest, the Lavar show isn't very good now, but I think it'll get there. Right now, Arrington and Chad Dukes are finding their groove. They're figuring out what works for that show and for the chemistry between the two of them. After they get more comfortable working together and get some confidence in what they're doing, I think it'll be an enjoyable show.

My one piece of advice to Arrington - drop the voices. Sometimes when he goes into a tangent he ends up making these ridiculous voices that do nothing but detract from what he's saying. The sooner he gets away from this, the better.

But if that's the biggest complaint they hear in the first month of the show, they'll be in great shape in the long run. Now, as for the Mike Wise show, that's another story completely ...

Have to agree completely. I listened to the show yesterday expecting to hear a bunch of hating, but to be honest I thought it was pretty good. I'm actually looking forward to have something to listen to on my drive home in the evenings now.

For all you Lavar haters, do us and yourself a favor, "If you don't like him or the show, don't listen to it". Otherwise quit whining. Hell, I came to this sight because I thought I'd leave all this kinda crap behind.

Not sure what anyone's opinion of Arrington has to do with the site Bill?

I was a Lavar fan, up until I actually got to see up close and personal how he carries himself. Sorry - just the way I feel after more than a couple experiences.

Anyway, there are always going to be fan differences in how they view players, especially guys who fairly or unfairly had controversial moments or careers. I agree with your primary point though - if you don't like a show, there's not a whole lot of point in berating it, no one forces anyone to listen. Actually though, sounds to me like there are more positives about Lavar's potential as a radio guy than negatives here, to those local folks lucky enough to be able to tune in to all kinds of Skins radio shows :)

Yours is certainly one point of view, Bill. The opposing one might read...

For all you Branch LaVarians, do yourself a favor, "If you like him or the show, just shut up and listen to it". Otherwise quit talking about him. Hell, I came to this sight hoping to never see his name mentioned again.

We're all entitled to voice our opinions, whether others agree with it, or not.

Last nights show was again, pretty good. Santana Moss was on, as well as M Vicks agent. They broke the news [at least to me] about Farve and had the sports reporter from the Times on to back up his story. All in all pretty entertaining to listen to. Lot's of hatin on T O as well, so that's always funny.

I don't know abou the "set-up" part, but I can tell you from someone with first hand experience, dan snyder is not someone you would want to work for. Ever.
C'mon Sarge, you can't keep something like this to yourself. Share the love man!!

Lavar complaining today about Chris Cooley talking about how he should stop "whining" about "being released".

Cringe Radio at its best!! Steven Davis on today? I'm gonna listen and see what happens. Being in the DC area over the weekend made me miss skins talk radio so I guess this is what I've got for now.

I haven't listened to the show, and I don't know that I will. Other than a few exceptions, sports talk broadcasters are a pretty trite and uninspired lot.

I did get a chance to listen to a couple minutes of the Wise show, which only solidified my aforementioned opinion. While I do enjoy Wise's columns, I'm not sure he has the chops to be a broadcaster.
