Random Commanders Thoughts

Well, you did try to pooh-pooh my farming analogy. Though it was positively ****ing brilliant!

And yes, we all certainly hope Mr. McGloo is better than all other GM's.

But as you well know, this fan base will not tolerate any early strike outs. They want Grand Slams before we ever get the first base runners.

not so sure. many have been conditioned to poor results at this stage of the 20+ yr turn-around cycle. I think that as long as 2-3 of McL's draft picks get on the field and perform well.....the fanbase may grouse but they will know things are on an upward trajectory.

so..there are seeds...then there is choosing the right land, choosing the crop that fits the climate, tilling the fields, fertilizing the fields, watering the crops, etc., etc.....seems to me like a lot of science, planning and decision-making goes into this. the seeds, btw, are the product of previous crops....and in many instances these days...are genetically engineered. hmmmmm.....maybe a different path for the Skins!

DC is a bit different than Cleveland. This is a top media market and capital of the country, not an industrial city on Lake Erie :)

What is so frustrating is that we seem to have good ownership and decision-making with the Nationals and Capitals right now and if just 50% of that would translate to the Redskins this team would be just that much better!

LOL! The DC area is one of the biggest NFL markets. If Danny decided to leave the area, there would be an instant bidding war by about 5 NFL franchises to leave their colors behind and move here.

Money talks, man.

It's a pipe dream that is so unlikely as to not even warrant debate. Snyder will never move the team, nor give up ownership. The only scenario in which he might step down as owner would be some business, personal, or ethical-related scandal that was so bad the NFL forced him out. And I believe, while he may be a shrewd cutthroat businessman, he's also smart and has more lawyers employed on his behalf than scouts in the scouting department. So there's no real point in discussing your pipe dream scenario. Call him 'Dannyboy' all you want - he's not going anywhere.

pretty much agree Boone with one (admittedly far-fetched) addition: if the fanbase exits stage left and a premiere NFL franchise becomes a money loser with hugely visible empty seats...that can force change...or some other large scale, fan initiated/led movement.

not likely.

I'll just continue to hold out for a Bruce Levenson/Donald Sterling scenario then.

D hall restructures again....

Gotta say I am glad I was wrong about who he was as a person. I always thought he was an idiot with a mouth bigger than his talent. But it seems as age came along so did his maturity

And I'm thinking he could be an option at FS if we don't get one in FA.

I don't like how the team is going to depend on a 30 something player who has torn his Achilles twice, to shore up the FS position.

What's even more baffling is for all the fans clamoring for a true rebuild, they are perfectly fine depending upon such a player when the true rebuilding move is to let Hall go and let the new GM find us youth and more dependability at that spot.

In general, I agree with you. But I think we have so many areas of needs that plugging a hole with an aging vet who we know can play is OK for now. If that's still the strategy in two years, I think something will have gone wrong, however.

Why let go of a great vet who is already helping us with a very cheap contract to begin with? You think there is cheaper out there who is as good?

I would agree with you if I didn't hate that everlasting dbag and the fact that coming off his injury he is nothing but one big question mark. The fact is that he is a huge unknown, he wasn't exactly playing that well before his injury but this one is not cut and dry by any stretch.

I thought he was pretty solid considering what we had overall back there on defense. I do agree about the big question mark coming off injury but isn't that why he restructured instead of just taking the money?

I'm not sure we can address safety or corner fast enough but if we can't or don't...i feel ok knowing he's there

It's not just a matter of being cheaper per say, it's more of a matter of being old, injury prone/ reliable. We've all seen how hard it is for guys to comeback from a torn Achilles, which carries with it a lack of explosion and muscle atrophy.

Now we've got a guy who is in his 30's and torn the same one twice. If he can make it back, good for him!

But the Odds certainly don't favor him or the team.

Yeah I feel ya, but he has never proved to be anything other than a corner. Pencil in him at safety is way premature. New defense too BTW may prove him needed as a veteran presence but he's never been know to be very flexible in defensive changes. (in ATL and OAK.) I hate to say but part of the reason Breeland looked as good as he did was he was replacing Hall.... I understand where you and probably others are coming from... I just think there's cheaper "depth" out there. I would guess if he was cut he wouldn't be signed for anything more than an incentive deal. I think he's making more than that here now isn't he? He took less money than what? He had an OK resurgence but he had really fallen off the map for a while hadn't he?

Hey...laroid was cut so we could go that way! ;-)

We can't fill every hole we have in a year or even 2. Having a solid starter, if even for a few years, while we find a bookend for Breeland (assuming Amerson can't develop significantly) will allow us to focus on other areas of need.

I think Amerson rebounds this season and gives us at least a decent starter. Though if McLuv can square us an epic trade down I'm perfectly fine taking a big CB by say the 4th round.

If not I'd be giddy enough fixing our O-line and front 7 with our whole draft.

Most of the State fans I know told me Amerson would end up playing safety, so there's that.
