I would say unless there is some sort of controversial reffing decision, the team that won is the better team. Period. You can argue the playcall all you want, but in the end, they called it. That was a decision made by that team, and it lost them the game. If they were the better team, they don't make that call, or execute it in a way that doesn't result in a loss.
They didn't get the game taken away from them. They lost the game by their actions, which, by default, makes them the worse team. One play does not make a game, it just puts the exclamation point on it.
