Meh...they don't make it past the first round. They are NOT a mentally strong team when compared to the likes of GB and Seattle, The Colts have been a very flawed team all season and Luck has played poor enough to get himself benched. Plus they had nothing to play for and Dallas had everything to play for. Seattle would absolutely tear them up right now IMO (they have allowed a grand total of 33 points the last 5 games)...and that's almost as painful to me, the Seahawks might be the most obnoxious team in recent memory and their fans certainly take the cake. That said no one's getting past NE, they'll be hoisting the Lombardi this year.

Rich Gannon lost all credibility with me during the game when he said he was impressed with the job Haslett has done. Say WHAT??? I literally spit my drink., I couldn't believe it. I normally like Gannon and find his take to be insightful. He made that statement from the cavity of his colon though.
 
Yeah, I don't see how anybody, even with only a partially working brain, could think Haslett should return.

And that's what scares me.

He's just going by statistics. It may be surprising, but we actually have the 10th to 14th best defense in the league this year. It may not feel like it, but we do.

Add into that the number of injuries and how many players he's had to use, and it's very impressive.

Maybe too impressive for those of us who would like to see him go.

I don't think Haslett's going anywhere. I'd love to see him replaced, but he's got the Norv Turner stick-around-like-a-bad-penny thing down like a champ. I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if he were retained.

The Cowboys? ... I haven't watched them play this year at all. I just can't get past their chronic soft-ness. Maybe they have found the magic formula this year. Frankly, the league being what it is, any team that makes the playoffs can win it all. There's really no way to predict anymore.

That said, the Seahawks just look unstoppable. They are peaking at just the right time and they have The Defense. I HATE to say it, but I think they repeat.

Pulling for an Arizona-Green Bay NFCCG, but I just don't see that happening.
 
You may be right on Haslett Henry. If it's based on this season's results, it's almost impossible to fire the guy.

Dallas puts up 42 on Indy, and we hold them to 17. It's crazy, but we've been good.

I'm hoping that they look at more than just this year when deciding if they renew him or not.

Yet, we are still 28th where it counts in allowing 26.3 points per game.
  • 2014 - 28th - 26.3
  • 2013 - t30th - 29.9
  • 2012 - 22nd - 24.2
  • 2011 - 21st - 21.9

I get where people just look at yards allowed, but that doesn't matter on the scoreboard. I'm not sure how that happens that these two types of stats are so polar opposite, but it definitely seems to be our M.O. over the years.
 
skewed stats are easy to twist to fit your agenda.

Truth of the matter is we give up entirely too many yards, we are VERY weak against the pass almost to the point of being incapable of defending a TE.

we were running 3 man rushes all day against the iggles and getting creamed.

We make the most pedestrian TE's look like Kellen Winslow Sr. and Tony Gonzales had a love child and help improve the third down stats of every team we face. Those alone are more important than any place in the standings.

Football Outsiders has us with the 27th ranked defense (or 29th depending on what you're looking at.) This is based on yards per play, yards per game, turnovers, points and lots of other stuff.

A couple interesting things:
We are dead last in pass defense.
Our overall defensive ranking has gone down (gotten worse) every year for the past four years.
Our defense is ranked 29th against #1 WRs, 30th against #2 WRs, 27th against #3 WRs and 30th against TEs. Again, dead last overall against the pass.

What was funny to me was how he spent the rest of the game contradicting himself criticizing the defense for their poor play & then late in the game, said "when is Jim Haslett going to double team Zack Ertz?" Yeah, Rich. We were wondering the same thing. Didn't look so smart then, did he?!

Cmon now...we haven't been good. as noted by others - all depends on stats you pull. we are near the bottom on give-away/take-aways in part we because we are near the bottom for INTs; we are 22nd in passing yardage surrendered; if stats were kept on opponent 3rd downs longer than 10 that were turned into first downs I am confident we'd be near the bottom......there's a whole slew of defensive categories we are not even sniffing top 15.

Oh no, we haven't been good. I just think Haslett has that 'I'm easy to work with so it doesn't matter if I suck' thing going for him.

But his defense does suck. I don't really think that's up for debate.

By the way, 42 is the most Dallas has scored all season and 17 is the second least we've given up all season. You are using two outliers to try and prove a point. Though that is probably going to be the rationale the Redskins use to keep him.
