Random Commanders Thoughts

Yesterday I saw some spark from Gruden....until the call back of the touchdown. Then it felt like he just retreated again back in to his shell and went vanilla. I am not going to blame the collapse on him at all...that was a team effort, but he didn't seem like he was in to it at all.

also:

why did he even try to start McCoy? Let's be honest about that. Colt's neck was not better; it was obvious to all of us when the week started that a neck injury doesn't heal within days. That reminds me of when Griffin was allowed to go back in against B-More and then again the next weeks until his knee just finally gave out. Is it the doctor's? Are the players fooling them? Something is wrong here but I know you don't mess with neck injuries.

Why did we go away from what was working? Shotgun formation, running backs in the flat, crossing wide receivers, running Griffin. All of that "should have" had us up by 10 and in full command. But instead we moved to an under center QB the majority of the time, up the gut runs, and play calling that had me shaking my head. The Giants were prime for the picking..we really could have won that game. But we shot ourselves in the foot once again.

Why aren't we blitzing more? Yes, I get it...it leaves single coverage in the secondary but they aren't covering anyways! Breeland got abused like a redheaded stepchild yesterday every time he turned around. BTW, what the **** happened with him?!! how many personal fouls can one guy accumulate before you bench him? We may be thin in the secondary but at least someone else wont just give them 15 yards at a time!! Can this finally be the straw that breaks Haslett's back?

Griffin said it best: "We shouldn't have let that one play ruin our entire game, but we did" or something to that effect. This team (if they are going to ever contend) needs to be bigger and better than blaming the refs. Great teams can rise above that shit and score regardless of non calls or phantom calls. We had the ball so many times we should have score several touchdowns and pulled away!

Can we come up with someone who coached during the modern era of free agency? Someone from the past 20 years?

A couple names like Verrmeil and Belichek come to mind, but those guys were both in the second stint as coach and both went 5-11 before turning their teams around ...

3-13? I can't come up with anyone. Maybe there is someone but I can't think of who it might be.

I don't know that we should replace Gruden after one season, but I do think he's doing a terrible job so far.

When narrowed down to current era, how many coaches are currently considered great?

Andy Reid? He went 5-11 in his first season.

You mentioned Belichick. I'm not sure how many others would be considered very good or great.

Tom Coughlin, 4-12. Is he great?

I don't consider Lovie Smith great. He started at 5-11.

I guess it just depends on what a person considers to be great. There are a number of long-tenured coaches that at least went to a SB or two that started off 5-11 or worse for what it's worth.

I suppose a team could do a lot worse than having an Andy Reid or Tom Coughlin type.

Funny to see so many bitch about Snyder's past, and then recommend he do it again.

Well, and that's the problem, isn't it?

Even if it needs to be done, it can't be done. Because Snyder.

When that all happened, I thought to myself "We are either going to use this to come out fired up and beat the crap out of the Giants ... or we'll curl into a ball."

I pretty much assumed that latter but given the fire I saw from Moss and Garcon I thought maybe it would be different this time. Sadly, no.

Any fire they did have was quickly extinguished by the onsides kick we didnt even bother trying to cover. that broke our backs quickly...great move by old man Coughlin

The thing is, it really wasn't even a great move. It was the only move for the Giants. Why just kick it off and have it go out of the endzone. Seemed obvious to me they would try and go for an onside kick from that spot. Yet we weren't smart enough to have the hands team out there to expect something like that. Horrible coaching as usual.

In a way it's better that they lost the game. We know they are shitty, they know they are shitty but they didn't tank the game. They just lost because they are shitty.:joyous:
I think there will be no misconceptions about our talent deficiency and lack of leadership from the veteran players. I believe this team to be one good draft away from contending in our division...But the decision makers for drafting talent need to be shown the door or taken out of the equation. Moses is a bust...cut bait and move on. Clark doesn't belong on the field. Our defensive line is a joke. Our Oline even worse.
I'm ok with the linebackers, receivers running backs and Te's. Whomever replaced Moses on the right (Compton?) is doing pretty good. So 3 draft picks is a given for the Oline. (RG,Center, and LG) maybe use the first pick on the Defense. Yeah I'm already looking at next season.

According to Gruden, the hands team was in for the onside kick the execution didn't get done.

Oh, to me it looked like we had the hands team out there. To their credit, the Giant's kicker had a really good bounce on that thing, and allowed their guys to just plow ours down and get a hand on it first. That one I say is on the players, because they were looking for the short kick and sold out on it, with only one guy far enough back to get the ball. The guys in front got plowed by the Giants players...that shouldn't have happened. Block the hell out of them.

Yeah, coaching always plays a part...but those players should have known better.

Is that his go to? "We had the right play, we just didn't execute."

"We practiced really well all wekk, we just couldn't execute on Sunday."

I'm sick of that excuse from him.

Gruden is not only proving to be a horrible coach, but an unbearable asshole.
On RG3: "He played ok." Will he start next week? "Well, he's in the mix. He's on the roster."

Who says stuff like that?! He's on the roster?!

That's about the same as Parcells telling everybody to put away the annointing oil, isn't it?

Parcells was telling them not to call Romo the savior or make him out to be this superman of a QB at such a young age.

He actually had named him starter and wasn't jerking him around in the media.

Can I just go back and cut & paste BGO comments from abt this time of year the last decade or so?

No one is in charge. That's easy to see from Moss' outburst yesterday and from Breeland's post game comments that he wouldn't take back anything about his FOUR penalties against the Giants.

Do you think Bellichick or Reid would allow players to feel that invulnerable and oblivious to what's good for the team?

To me Griffin vs other qbs is a secondary issue now because this team is close to anarchy and nobody seems able to pull things together.

Gruden is a deer in the headlights. He doesn't have what it takes in terms of detail to get players ready to play.

And he obviously lacks the leadership and gravitas that a Gibbs or Parcells showed.

Players aren't afraid of Gruden or this staff, they do pretty much what they want to do.

I remember Parcells coming in , cleaning house and taking the Jets from 1-15 to 9-7 in one year.

This club won't be 9-7 again in our lifetimes if Gruden and Allen remain in place.

Think of all the failures.

Overpaying Orakpo and tying up the cap when there were still so many holes to fill.

Signing Shawn Lauvao to a bonus filled contract when his former team that went 4-12 thought he was excess baggage.

Signing a 32 year old Jason Hatcher to a team that was coming off 3-13 and needed to develop a younger core. Hatcher fit like Demarcus Ware in a Denver team that was looking to get back to the Super Bowl. Washington?

Hatcher will be long retired when the Redskins are at that point.

The only acquisitions that stand out are Jackson and Tress Way.

They are the only ones that came in and performed from Day One.

Gruden, Allen and Scott Campbell need to be put under the microscope in the offseason but who is going to do that?

He showed some progress Yesterday but he's not showing much poise on 3rd downs. I realize the team as a whole struggles with 3rd down conversions. He's taking sacks that the other 2 qbs avoid.

Who avoids sacks? Colt with his average of 7 per game?

That neck of his says a different story

It's nice to see the mediots on nfl network and bspn actually defend that Griffin scored a touchdown and trying to go by a pass rule is ridiculous.

Plus Bomani Jones just said he doesn't understand why Gruden is constantly going against what works with Griffin and degrading him to the press. Every single mediot on around the horn nodded their heads in agreement and the host said "wow, best argument I've heard so far"

Hey coach! The ONLY way he improves is by playing; Facing defenses, learning the blocking deficiencies of his Oline, RB's and TE's, gaining confidence in where his receivers will be. You were supposed to be a head coach who teaches, grooms and grows the QB. Quitting on each of them and benching them is not coaching. McCoy is better at reading defenses. No shit! He's been in the league longer. Big freakin deal. Teach and coach the kid damn it! Stop acting like he has to get it all right away or he'll sit. Coach him and let him grow. The product you've put on the field is across the board awful. At least give the kid the reps the rest of the way.
