Random Commanders Thoughts

so our CBs have the potential to develop? My post made mention that the next 3 weeks are more important then the game last night. Building upon success is more important then showing a flash..

While I agree building upon success is extremely important, I wouldn't say what we saw Monday night out of our corners was flash. Looks like they did the job there paid to do.... nothing more... nothing less.

I don't know Pete...Breeland was balling most of the night. He made a huge mistake on the TD to Witten, but perfect pass defenses against a much larger Bryant in today's NFL on back to back plays forcing the Turds to a FG was as good as it gets...with any QB.

2 awkward moments in one clip......first the "forced hug", and then getting stashed away

That's the kinda move that feeds the media monster. As a PR guy, he has to understand that is not good PR. We don't need to feed those sharks anymore chum!

Breeland did an outstanding job. Must look at it in context though. When you rush effectively 7 and 8 men, your d backs will have a good day at the office and your coverage skills improve immensly. They practiced this all week, and it paid off. You could see that Breeland knew the only hope for Romo was the quick short pass and he had that blanketed.

I would bring back Griffin against Tampa after the bye.

I want to see McCoy start and perform well in another game so we can establish who the #2 is and start to evaluate Griffin with a clean slate.

I tend to agree...I've been waiting to see someone step up. Some of those guys were drafted in the last few years. Injuries set a few back. The one advantage to having start a rookie with decent upside is mistakes will be frequent but trial by fire should yield some results. Breeland has looked pretty good overall but he's had his rookie moments. As I recall he was a solid choice to be a starter but he had a weed incident in late spring .... Amerson? I hear you guys say he's doing well...there has been too many holes in the bucket to isolate it down I suppose. I'm happy as hell with the win and truth be told we beat Dallas. That has already brought joy to my heart. I want Gruden to be the guy...same as the last bunch of coaches that have come and gone. It's usually these kind of moments that make or break rookie coaches. Gruden doesn't have to win the remaining games to have a successful year. If he can find a franchise qb and a decent backup. That in itself is huge. Cousins and Griffin are entering the new contract year. I want to see Griffin get a chance to claim his spot...If not I'm really good with McCoy as the guy and either Cousins or Griffin as the back up. The other as trade bait.

Yup, he was B. And there isn't anybody in their right mind that expects a rookie to be perfect, but I didn't see an over abundance of bravado after making big time plays, so I just don't see it as being flashy.

Either way, this kid looks like he could be the steal of our draft. It's funny how a player is projected in the draft, and winds up being a different player in the big league.... and it works both ways. He's been solid since he hit the field, and he took a huge step in the right direction Monday. We could be set for some time at corner. I just have to wonder, will he be seen as the # 1 cover guy for us in the not so distant future. I love Amerson, but Breelend seems to have that... I don't know... maybe hunger of a guy trying to prove himself, and it shows in his play.

Well, if Griffin isn't the guy, and I'm convinced that he is, he wouldn't bring much in a trade.

Cousins? We'd probably have to throw in a draft pick to give him away.

If Colt's a one year deal, we don't have much say in that.

Cousins is a damn fine back up...bear in mind he still has less than a full season of experience...Griffin has how many starts? less than 2 full seasons... I'm pulling for Griffin as well.

ESPN 980 says Griff to start at Minney........ according to sources
If he's ready, you start him.

Don't get me wrong, I like Kirk. But his play, to now, has dropped his trade value off the charts. Robert never looked as bad in his first starts.

If we released Cousins, he'd be scooped up immediately. But we have zero negotiating strength with him as of today.

The source to espn 980 is Dianna Russini of NBC who's sources have been pretty decent so far.

Alright, this is where we make or break our season.

I'm pretty excited about the upcoming game. If Griffin plays better at practice than McCoy, it's a no brainer. We need some wins...Start the one that gives us the best chance. Regardless if Griffin falters or gets hurt it's best to find out now.

If McCoy were playing perfectly, I might say 'go with the hot hand'. But he hasn't. He's done a hell of job, particularly for a 3rd string QB, don't get me wrong. But he has thrown some bad passes and has consistently been late getting the ball out. We've mostly gotten away with it, and of course, he lead us to two wins. But Griffin is the QB of the future, at least presumptively, and if he's healthy you have to get him back out there.

All that being said, I personally think it would make more sense to let Colt start in Minny and give Griff the full 2 weeks of practice with the starters to be ready.

Locals are not 100% 'sure', no official announcement that Griff will 'definitely start'.....

A lot of 'if the reports are true' stuff being discussed, will he be ready, how could Gruden make the call with only a 'walkthrough' practice today

Gotta love twitter for 'breaking news' getting to the media.

McCoy also beat the Jaguars in addition to the Cowboys.

At least according to Wilbon and Kornheiser on PTI today.
