When you're down by 10 points with 2:00 to go, it's 4th and 10 at the opposing teams 25 do you go for the FG and lock up the points, or do you risk going for the TD knowing if you miss... you're in a worse spot? Taking the points, big picture, is the smart play.... Drafting Murphy might not be that much different.
They very well could have looked at the board and didnt see a lineman they graded out well enough to take there. If i'm not mistaken... MOSES was graded out to go somewhere before that pick and he plummeted. Maybe there's a few O-linemen coming out in next years draft we like better? Maybe they want to draft 1st round talent at that position, so instead of spending Murphy's pick on someone we confident in, we looked at it from another angle. Thinking 'macro' as you say, it might in fact being the better pick.
