Still have not come to terms with the Murphy pick

I don't think the issue is what Murphy can do as a player, I think it's about a team that is so void of talent in so many areas and we picked a player in a spot that is relatively deep right now. Keenan Robinson seems to be doing very well and Perry Riley is solid too. Plus with Rak and Kerrigan we have that covered too. It wasn't just RT it's RT, RG, maybe C, we needed more DL help, although some would debate that, our secondary is just p*ss poor and did I mention we needed OL help? ;)

Well that's a whole different debate.. but if you look at this team, and a sentiment I heard A LOT going into the draft, we needed to go BPA for this team period. Rak has injury issues and we franchise tagged him. If he tears his pec again, or walks away after the season, this pick could look like a ballsy but genius move in 3 years. We dont know what goes on in that office in Ashburn and we cant expect the team to 'fix' ever 'problem' in 1 offseason. It just is not possible. For all we know, there's an O-Lineman coming out in next years draft that they are absolutely in love with, or a FA becoming available that could 'solve' our problems.


Would I have LIKED to draft a young stud O-Lineman who can come in and start day 1... absolutely. Problem is he might not have been there.

I can agree with that, but I think what hurt us last year is we have no depth, and the new strategy this FO went into the draft with is BPA, and Murphy was at the top of their list? So we do need depth, and if Murphy became a starter great, if not, very good depth...
 
Normally I'd be fine with the philospohy but there's one major aspect that makes the O line an absolute franchise priority to overhaul and it needed to be done immediately. Robert Griffin, this kid has franchise QB written all over him if we can keep him healthy enough to develop. The rest of the team is irrelevant if we kill this kid in the process. So I'm an O line alarmist like Ryman, don't care if our 1st 2nd or even 3rd choice wasn't available. We should have been loading up bigtime and we did anything but IMO. We grabbed a few projects, basically ignored FA and decided to let our franchise QB risk his neck and surgically repaired knees behind that bead curtain of a right side. But we got Desean! Woohoo! (sarc)
 
One thing fans frequently forget to consider. The team may well have shopped guys or made offers for other teams O linemen in the off-season. Those other teams don't have to accept our offers or may have made counter-offers that were just too high. It happens more often than not.

We also can't fix every issue in one off-season. I would've focused almost the entire draft on OL. But I get that we have other needs.

It does sound semi-hysterical to be writing off the new Redskins with one regular season under their belt. I'm not a huge Bruce Allen fan and never have been. Nice guy, but to me he's more of a PR guy than a football guy. Were it not for his Dad's legacy, I don't think he'd have had the opportunities he's had. But everyone else is new almost across the board and it'll take time and patience to see what this new organization can do. Seriously - stating anything categorically in year 1 (at the start of year 1) is sort of unfair, don't you think?
 
About the overall direction of the team? Yes. About the current state of the talent pool coupled with how they went about addressing the most glaring need in the off season? No.
Until I see a full paradigm shift in the approach to the way this F.O. builds a team (ie finally learning that you build from the inside out), I will be pretty critical of our approach to getting the lines right.

I'm with you on this one. I would have gone after the best 2 guards and RT, and also gone after a legit Nose as well in the draft and FA. I thought we were ok at LB before the pick. It's very frustrating for me.
