Tandler: Redskins Sunday Practice Report: A Good Day For The Defense

From everything I've been reading, I kind of get the feeling that RG3 has been struggling in camp.

Is that just me or does anyone else get that impression?

I think that is just part of the process learning a new system with all new coaches.

I haven't seen/heard that - except for stuff like this by NFL 'experts'. You know, guys just like us except that they have press credentials :) I'm not saying it's not true - I think only the coaching staff would be able to make that assessment and they aren't talking.

I've always gotten the feeling that Cousins was a quick study, probably quicker than Robert. But his ceiling isn't even in the same stratosphere as Griffin's is.

Might also be the difference in each QB's upbringing, Kirk was schooled in pro style, Griff not so much 'til the NFL

Conclusion:

RG3 excels in raw talent
Cousins excels in being highrly adaptable to NFL pro style offenses

My friend: Cousins didn't look so flexible the last four games last season. he made all kinds of mistakes. One reason no trade materialized after the season ended. RGIII is learning the in/outs of becoming a pocket passer...one of the main reasons Gruden was hired in the first place. this will take some time....but I expect rapid improvement week to week. folks keep forgetting just how smart RGIII really is.....too easily distracted by all the twittering/media face time he seems drawn to.

Hope you're right, but I maintain his ego is getting in the way. I am hoping beyond hope his observations of Tom Brady's focus during the joint practices will help. Kinda tired of seeing him goof off all game/practice and take the game a little more seriously. I saw it Monday and again Thursday night.

I am not opposed to having fun, that's not what I am saying. What I oppose is the childishness about it. He goofs too much.

Maybe somebody needs to call RG TWO, to instill some more of that discipline he's supposed to be known for.

He actually seems to have declined maturity-wise and character wise, since his rookie year.
Again I'm not talking about his performance, health, or anything "on" the field.
But his maturity/character seems to be off, from his rookie year.
Just what it seems like, but I hope I'm wrong.

All I see him do is be with fans, veterans, help kids with special needs do cool things, speak about goals and positivity.

Could be worse. He could be drunk and making it rain.

I can only imagine what the national press and social media would've done to the fan's perspective of say...Sonny or Riggo.

Robert's a choir boy in comparison.

Sheesh....

No offense my friend, but you're 3000 miles away. Having had the opportunity to see him about 20 times from a vantage point those in the area do not have, I can say with certainty that he goofs off too much.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt since he is only 25, but the level of maturity I was told this kid possesses is not there...it just isn't.

Doesn't mean I won't root for him, I do. Its not like I want him to fail, he's the QB of my favorite team.,

The Internet and social media erase all of the miles.

give it time bubba. brady, manning, et al, didn't come to maturity in the age of Facebook and Twitter. robert is a creature of the times. I'd prefer the stoic leader type as well whose deeds speak louder than the promos. but, in the end, all I care about is results. his actions...far as I can tell...aren't causing locker room problems...or lack of teamwork on the field. the team gave up a fortune for him...we are going to ride this out. so far...one great season...one miserable one. the trajectory is what matters. he either becomes a long-term winner....or he will eventually become some other team's public relations spokesperson. right now....I recommend keeping focused on the only thing that matters: how he performs when the scores start to count.

btw...all the focus on giselle (sp), haircuts, etc.....brady isn't prone to dabbling in celebrity preening himself?

It does when it's his own account and posts. It most certainly does then.

One man's take on another man's demeanor can be quite different from someone else's.

I find myself giving Griffin a longer leash because the majority of what he does is not detrimental to the team. There are plenty of moments in the last 12 months that he's exhibited a maturity level that I honestly cannot say I would have been able to maintain. When he got benched last year, he EASILY could have blown that whole situation up but he didnt. He has made some passive/aggressive comments about the coaching staff (which frustrates me), but it could have been handled a lot worse. He's 24 years old getting paid to play a kids game. Immaturity and goofing around on the field i'm ok with, as long as he's working hard in the classroom. NONE of us can see what he does in the film room, weight room, locker room, or any other place that's going to be more cerebral then reactionary. Some of the best football players I ever played with were giant goofballs during practice because it kept EVERYONE around them loose. You get up tight at practice and you forget why you're there.
