Random Commanders Thoughts

Self-serving types? Their motives may be a little suspect, but self-serving is not one of them. That's the type of rhetoric that does nothing to help and only drives the divide further.

I don't know how you can see what many of them are doing as not being done to get them political points. They have past history that shows them as doing things for that exact reason, this is just the flavor of the month.

Yeah, I thought he meant in general, not specifically politicians.

Since the President and Congress have decided not to do anything about substantive issues for the balance of the year, expect more grandstanding on issues like the name change.

This surfaced today, about how the Redskins were very close to acquiring Joey Galloway from the Seahawks for a first and a third, until Dallas stepped in and offered two 1sts.

Knowing Snyderatto, they'd have likely gone with Arrington over Samuels (if they traded number 3 sand not number 2 overall). So, thanks to Jerrah, Chris was a member of the Redskins.

Side note: this is exactly how I'd expect Dan to behave.

That trade helped the Cowboys demise by taking away multiple impact players for a guy that was another moody prima Donna.

Not as bad as the Roy Williams trade for Dallas but close.

Clark honoring his friend Sean at OTAs today.

Richard Sherman is pro-name change?

All the more reason to keep it.

Hey look, the guy who has screwed his own tribe over for money is trying to show his morals again. What an upstanding individual.

Best comment on that article though?

Richard Sherman on banning the N-Word on the field of play:

“It’s an atrocious idea,” said Seattle cornerback Richard Sherman. “It’s almost racist, to me. It’s weird they’re targeting one specific word. Why wouldn’t all curse words be banned then?”

Sherman said the N-word is commonly used among NFL players.

“It’s in the locker room and on the field at all times,” Sherman said. “I hear it almost every series out there on the field.”

Good to know Dick's cool with the N word. That R word though ... that has to go.

The funniest thing about those comments is that he says it's all about the money and it's not hurting the bottom line. Do you know what would be a massive increase in revenue for the Redskins and the NFL? Changing the name. Not because they are being hurt by using Redskins, but because any change in uniforms always causes a spike in sales. But yeah, keep trotting out that it's all about the bottom line.

I wonder if we're going to see announcers, analysts, and commentators refuse to call them the Redskins when mentioning them on TV, due to either pressure from management that's overboard on being PC, or their own convictions.
Are we going to start to see TV personalities just refer to them as "Washington" ?

I hope someone sues them for singling out and bullying the fans if they do. If we have to be polite to everyone and their feelings then so should they.

I agree that this issue is NOT about money but I also think you are wrong about the finances of it. Maybe in the long run they come out on top but the short run? I'm not buying it. Just look at the obstacles players face when trying to change their name. They have to buy back all the merchandise with their old name on it before they can have new stuff printed up. The manufacturers have contracts and aren't going to just eat the loss of that product. Changing the name would cost hundreds of millions, maybe even billions once all is said and done. Plus they'd have to pay to have the badging removed/changed from all signage, buildings, vehicles, clothing, paperwork...EVERYTHING. The NFL and the Redskins would NOT see a huge financial windfall if this went down, quite the opposite in the short term. Plus I think you vastly overestimate the run on new merchandise by fans. I can tell ya I for one won't spend a dime and I know of more than a few avid fans who feel the same. It's not a protest per se, more of a sentiment of "They can allow these PC turds to bully them but I sure as hell won't".

I won't be loud and overt in my actions, once it's done it's done. But I sure as heck am NOT going to just play along with bells on. In fact one thing they're going to have a heck of a problem with is keeping all the old gear from being worn and displayed. It almost makes me want to see it just so I can watch them squirm when the vast majority doesn't play along like good little boys and girls.

And if the NFL was really against the name maybe they would stop selling & licencing Redskin products unless they changed their name. And give up their cut on those products they are getting until the name was changed of course. Yeah, right.

I'm not sure they can... I would imagine that a contract is in place with licensing and the companies that are producing the products... If they started refusing the licensing of the Redskins to Nike, Nike would hold the other 31 teams over their heads.
