Tanard Jackson to be reinstated 5/6/2014

I wonder of it was the physical, the meetings with the team officials, or just what they had planned to do all along.

Maybe they figured he wasn't worth 700K, after seeing the shape he was in, and maybe they offer him a lesser contract to re-sign.

A guy who was previously quoted by team sources, as someone who would be a "bonus" if he contributes, or someone they're not counting on to be more than a "wild card", probably isn't worth more than Vet Minimum.

No doubt, his monetary value has decreased dramatically from 2 years ago

I may be wrong, but from what I read...700k is cheaper than his current vet minimum. I think current vet minimum is 730k for him. I'm betting he's just gone.

Interesting. Allen said he was in play pending his physical and interview with the coaches. I wonder if he failed a conditioning test or some other evaluation. I don't see how it could be the money.

It looks like the VM is indeed 730K for a player with 5 Years Exp.
And the VM for 5 YOE, must have been 700K, at the time we signed him 2 years ago.
So, that means he wasn't even worth 30K LESS than the VM, to the team !
That's quite telling, what they thought of him.
I assume that we could have had him at a super bargain if we wanted him in the slightest, since it appears the 2 year suspension locked him into a contract, where his salary was outdated and below current standards for VM.

Maybe they didn't like what they heard from the guy. Anything short of total contrition, and literally begging for another chance would probably fall short. What are the odds the genius is going to get his life in order and start making good decisions? It's nice to believe guys can change and smarten up, but there's no evidence he's capable of it. I say moving on is the right course.

or maybe they figured 2 years out of the league and a drug suspension was just too much to try and salvage. who even knows if this guy is in football shape or even has the muscle memory to play?

Meh, figure we'll draft one fairly high and sign a FA or 2 there. Might get lucky and grab a solid one that was a cap casualty.

I suspect it is your first suspicion. If they planned on it all along I doubt that they would have wasted the time for a physical. Many in the FO weren't around back when he burned them and I think Morris would have stood up for him. Again, I doubt they would waste the time if Morris wouldn't back him up . And the Skins have a fairly stringent physical requirement. Plus it only took a couple of hours for them to cut him - not really enough time to do a physical, interview and come to a decision unless he said something really stupid. His cap hit would really have been minimal. He'd make the top 51 but a $470k guy would come off so it wasn't a money thing.

Dude is probably done. If Washington was wiling to cut ties with him so quick considering they could use all the help they can scratch up at Safety I doubt anyone else will bother.

Note: really doesn't make any difference because a four year guy is at the same P5 ($730K now) as a five year one, but 2010 didn't count towards his vestment because he only played 2 games instead of the minimum three to qualify as a credited season.

maybe he turned up his physical holding a bucket of KFC and a pot belly.

No wait thats me

I heard he was caught on tape with Marion Barry smoking with a hooker!

WP said it was because of the contract, and that he could still end up here.

Maybe the contract he had was guaranteed money. Maybe they want one that isn't. I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night. So WTF do I know?

Well I doubt very many teams (if any) will be lining up to ink this guy to a huge deal, so he's probably going to come fairly cheap. As he should.

Hopefully we are now going to stop being Raiders East and get rid of these bad character guys and not pursue those in FA.

Enough of Jackson, enough of guys like Fred Davis.

Enough drama.

Just get players that want to play the game and can stay away from getting in bar fights with hookers and being suspended 3 or 4 times since 2009 for lighting up?

Pathetic.

Well, like I said earlier, his original contract was 30K LESS than the current Vet Minimum.
So, how can you get any cheaper than that ?

Maybe there's a rule that prohibits a team from paying a player LESS than the VM, even if his contract was frozen for 2 years, and the proper protocol in that case requires them to cut him, and then re-sign him to at least the current VM ? And in those cases, maybe the team that is forced to the player, has first dibs on re-signing him ? Just a guess.

I've seen some people reporting that we've already brought Jackson back to a more tram-favorable deal. Can't find any confirmation though.

Edit: Keim confirms.
