He's going to let it go until he can't let it go. That doesn't mean it's not a problem, or even that Gruden isn't worried about it. I have no problem with Griffin marketing himself - but he's putting stuff out there, like backhanded slaps at the Shanahans that a) serves no purpose other than his own ego, and b) is beneath him.

I don't like it And, again, looks to me like he has no intent to stay out of the limelight and let his play speak for him. If he continues with this stuff, he'd better hope to God he does it on the field, because if not, the fans are going to turn on him in ways he can't imagine.
 
I feel the same.

I support anyone that works hard to make money. And I support him.

But if a QB from another 3-13 team did this, we'd be laughing at them right now.
 
I guess we'll have to wait and see. I'm no fan of all the instant media crap he involves himself in, but people are twisting the logo stuff around just a bit. Making it sound like Robert went out and contracted to have a personal logo designed. NIKE marketing has had this in the works for some time. Wilson and Luck didn't make the splash Robert did in his rookie season, and he's a marketing dream. People who hate our team love RGIII. Unless I've missed something, Robert hasn't given any of us cause to think he's not focused on the task at hand. While he really wasn't ready to play physically last year, nobody can say he didn't dedicate everything he had to getting ready for the season.

Ya the tweets and facebook stuff are something we all could live without, but I'll wait to see what Robert looks like in camp. We want a star QB, and to me looking at the world today, this is a byproduct of the times. If our line can do what they haven't in many years now, Roberts play will make all this stuff a non issue.

cmon now. the kid is one injury away from forgetville. this is tame in the extreme. the NFL is a business and if he can market himself - more power to him. comes with the territory of being a famous QB.

I'm lmao. no one on this board seems perturbed that our new, RICH, FA signing, MR DJ, is on vacation rather than joining his teammates working out. I don't give a hoot if it was pre-planned. he signed for a ton, made a big deal out of being a locker room type who is also going to be a leader.

Look at some of his tweets from the last couple days Pete. It goes well beyond the logo. I said the same thing you are saying initially about the logo on Twitter. But I think he needs to dial back the grandiosity and 'look at me' stuff.

Has anyone considered that he isn't the one dictating the timetable... that maybe Adidas is controlling the development and release of the logo? He's under an endorsement contract with Adidas and they are even more interested in being in the spotlight then he is. Obviously I'm not suggesting he was against a logo, but I'm also not convinced he was running to Adidas saying "lets do it now, lets do it now."
 
Eh, it all comes down to wins. If he wins, all this crap will be perceived as charming or whatever. If he doesn't win, this will be part of the reason why, and he will be castigated.

I would prefer a player on my team not set themselves up for undue criticism and scrutiny should things not go well, but in the end, it doesn't matter. If he wins, none of it matters.

agree. and find the incessant efforts to modify an individual's behaviors somewhat disturbing. zero'ing in on and extending your primary theme - until it is proven that RGIII's off-season activities are in any way, shape or form disruptive in the locker room or on the field.....so what?

the time to get upset is when contract negotiation begins next season. then we'll see how hardball is played.
 
Seems like much ado about nothing to me. I'm not with ya here Boone, seems WAY overblown to me. The kid is marketing himself and maximizing his product potential. Seems pretty smart to me given the tenuous nature of NFL careers, especially if the guy is working as hard as Gruden says he is. people want the kid to become an introvert. not happenin, he's an extrovert who loves the entire experience. Good for him, seems like a good kid to me.
 
I'm glad to see someone complaining about this stuff other than just me and fansince62. I was starting to get worried I was being overly ridiculous, and didn't even bother posting about either his twitter sayings, or whatever they are, or his logo yesterday ;)

I don't care what he does in the off season as long as he's not taking shots at the team anymore. But this stuff smacks of insecurity. Some people have tied some of his twitter stuff and announcements to be right after the team makes big announcements having to do with people other than Griffin - the implication being that he does this stuff to regain the spotlight when he feels he's lost it. Not sure I'm willing to go that far, but it generally is a bit weird.

As a fan - we were 3-13 last year and Griffin was a significant part of that. He couldn't even throw the ball the first few weeks and had no business being out there, but Team Griffin made sure to make it impossible for Kirk to start without there being a huge problem. The result was a pretty solid change over in coaching staff.

You'd think he'd keep his mouth shut and realize no one wants to hear this crap when the team is losing. We're a high strung fan base but at the same time you can get away with pretty much anything as long as you're winning; losing, well you can't get away with much. And right now this team is a loser, and will continue to be one for the next 5 months.

Oh well. This isn't a huge deal to me. He's marketing himself and that's fine; as long as it stays in the offseason. But his honeymoon has come to an end and I hope he realizes it. Not very many people are expecting this to be a rebuilding year - a lot are expecting competitive football. Specifically lots of people are expecting him to return to 2012 form (or even better) now that his surgery is behind him.

We'll see... He's an interesting character to watch though, that's for sure.

you and I both know his off season activities were disruptive last year. is it really fair to require everyone to wipe the slate clean so quickly? i'm not saying it isn't, it's an honest question. maybe the coaching staff was primarily responsible for it last year, I don't know. but it is possible a trend/track record is starting to form here...
 
Im really not arguing that the sky is falling. I'm just saying that I think he'd be better served by shutting his yap, stepping away from the keyboard occasionally, and staying out of the news. We had enough distractions last year to last a decade and his need to be front and center in the media doesn't contribute anything positive to this team. We'll see if his need to be the center of attention is a problem or not down the road.
 
Oh - and I agree that a smart move by Jackson would've been to be at voluntary workouts. Then again, no ones ever accused DeSean of being smart. Griffin is no dummy though, and he ought to know that creating drama is not part of a winning formula.

He was on a trip out of the country, probably planned for and coordinated LONG before he was signed by the Redskins. Airfare, hotel, passport, all has to be planned well in advance, and can be expensive. I would have liked to see him there too, but if he dropped $10k plus on a trip, my butt would be going on that trip.
 
Do I need to chime in about what I think of RGIII?
 
He's taking public sideways shots at his former coaches - knowing that's going to raise eyebrows and get attention. Everything he does appears to be about attention. I have been as big a supporter of Griffin as anyone out there. I'm just saying I don't like what I'm seeing and hearing from him. It's fine if everyone else is okay with his comments.

Oh i was referring to the logo release.... honestly been so busy I fell behind and missed the comments.

I didn't bring up Jackson and I assume the scenario is likely something close to that - I was just responding to him being brought up.
