Well, you didn't say Girffin and Garcon didn't together produce wonderful numbers when it mattered. You suggested Garcon's receiving success had something to do with Griffin's numbers when games were out of reach. I think you just proved that's not the case. Garcon did have big numbers in close games and wins, and so did Griffin. Their worst numbers occurred when games were out of reach.

On a 3-13, none of it matters. That doesn't mean the few players who produce aren't actually any good.

The team didn't quit when we were 1-4. That's why we got to 3-5. The team quit after the Minnesota game. It was as plain as day.
 
That same horrific talent won the NFC East the season before. I know some of you want to pretend it didn't happen - but I assure you - it DID happen. The sky isn't falling, at least not yet :) we have some key pieces in place. We really shouldn't be surprised with where we are. We paid a King's Ransom for RG3 (and I'm okay with that) and then got hammered with the cap penalty. Griff's injury added to our woes. Any team would struggle to build and simultaneously win under those circumstances. That's not to say mistakes haven't been made, but there have been good decisions and solid additions made during the past 4 years as well. I am optimistic about the next 10 years but rebuilding IS a process, and it will put our patience to the test.

I'm with you 100%. People also seem to mask the fact that we've set the single season franchise rushing record, as well as sent a 2nd year RB to the pro bowl.

In addition to that we set the single season franchise receptions record.

There is a core of talent and pieces are being added. Were a month into FA, and while we have a core of guys, replacing the other 2/3rds of the starters with better talent wont happen in a month. It's a development process that comes from a good foundation. I believe the foundation is here, and we've started taking a step in the right direction.

Yes, every team is looking for more.

A quick glance back 10 years through the draft shows why we have finished in last place three of the past four years.

2005 - Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell are no longer with the team.

2006 - Rocky McIntosh is no longer with the team.

2007 - LaRon Landry is no longer with the team.

2008 - Devin Thomas, Malcolm Kelly and Fred Davis are no longer with the team.

Starting in 2009 we started to draft better at the top of the order but those picks were not enough to overcome what should have been a fairly deep team if the prior selections had been merely good, not spectacular.
 
Wowzers... five of those seven aren't even on an NFL roster.

Right, and we traded up in 2005 for Campbell giving up a #1 in 2006.

Then in 2006 we gave up additional picks to trade up and take McIntosh.

So, it was just not a case of the Redskins missing on a pick, there were multiple picks in play on some of these guys.
 
Well, Mike missing on those picks that would now be 27-31 years old is why we don't have quality depth across the roster.

Just look at the 26-30 year old guys we are signing in free agency.

That's why there is the need.
 
Right, that's why I made the post. People are criticizing Allen for not having enough talent and I was trying to explain the history of why this roster is so thinned out with mid-career veterans.

this roster isn't really thinned out with mid-career vets...

this is the youngest roster we've had in a long time... and that was apparently all shanahan.

in fact, allen only brought in mid-career vets so far this offseason.
 
You misunderstand me. The roster is MISSING mid-career veterans and we have to go out and acquire them :)
 
The team is not as good as the 2012 record but not as bad as 2013.

If you average the wins you come out with about 7.

And that's where I see the team now as one likely to finish 7-9 or in that area.

Now that is pending the draft, trades and other FA signings.

I don't think that's accurate and i think simply averaging the wins and losses is lazy analysis. It means the positive and negative external forces on the team's play should net out evenly and that everything else other than talent was equal, and neither is true.

I guess one way to describe it is like this.

If someone had a kid that was fat, dumb and ugly, (overweight, not real smart, and unattractive for the PC crowd), but was a prodigy pianist, his parents would quickly grow tired of those that always spent more time talking about how fat, dumb, and ugly the kid was. Instead of how beautifully he played the piano.

Or in the case of our team, writing a couple words/sentences of praise, or optimism.
While devoting paragraphs/novels to the criticism and pessimism.

Just like everyone else.

I have no idea how the chemistry will come together on a team with this many new faces and with a coach that has no HC track record in the NFL.

How will the team handle adversity? Injuries?

How will the team handle any early success?

The reason I guessed 7 wins and think that is realistic is that to me it represents a competitive but not top echelon club that is still building talent and chemistry with a new regime.

I don't think we will see too many blowouts like the team suffered in 2013 and a healthy Griffin could mean stealing some games in the fourth quarter too.
 
The idea that this site is full of blind homers is pretty silly. I'm one of the biggest homers here and it's taken me nearly the entire offseason to find my positivity again :)
 
this forum is actually the least homery forum I know of, we are a lot more realistic than most.

now as for last year, I predicted 4-6 wins, based on RG3 being rushed back, and I was angry about it, we should have played Kirk. this Oline is junk, plain and simple, the scheme for the run game is decent but is is an epic fail in short yards and even worse when there is no credible run threat from the QB. the defence is horrific and poorly schemed and we simply looked lost and unprepared a lot more than a team in its 4th season with the same dc should look.

we werent as bad as we looked last season but we damn sure were nowhere near as good as we looked in Rg3s rookie season. and lets be honest, if we had had even a half ass defence and a slightly better oline that year we could have been a one year wonder superbowl team, instead we were a flash in the pan wildcard team. now we are rebuilding yet again, and bragging up our youth doesnt mean much when those young players are the guys we need to replace, this team a few really good starters, a couple mid level starters and a pile of crappy ones

Nobody is braggin up the young players that 'need' to be replaced. Our foundation is built on young players in key places. Griffin/Morris/Garcon/Reed/Williams/Kerrigan don't need to be replaced. In addition to them, we have some solid young players Young/Paulsen/Amerson/Hankerson/Helu... and a handful of young players in need of development who the jury is still out on. There are quite a major 'x-factor' that has been thrown into the mix, which basically sends the jury out on the whole defense. In addition to that, 4 losses last season could be directly connected to HORRIBLE ST play. It cannot be dismissed, it's an absolute element of the game.
 
We still have the draft, but are those......smiles I'm seeing beginning to form?
