Burner's Burning Questions: Offseason Edition, Free Agency 2014

John Keim is reporting that the Redskins spent a lot of time on the phone with the agent for safety Mike Mitchell on Saturday.
 
I know very little about Mitchell, but it appears that he is very good in pass coverage, but was also the worst tackler in the league last season, missing 18 tackles.

Starks is a #DMV native... went to school in Waldorf, MD. Is said to be interested in playing close to home.
 
I would give Starks a 2 year contract at most. He's 30 years old. There are better, younger out there.

So does free agency start at midnight tonight (Monday) or midnight tomorrow (Tuesday)?

NFL.com has a count down ticker that says 4pm Tuesday is the start of FA.
 
I don't know if it's midnight or 4 pm. We just set the date for our ticker.
 
I think yesterday at noon you could discuss deal parameters with FA's. Tomorrow at 4 you can start signing players.

Read where we have $23 mil to spend and according it new CBA we have to spend 89%. Can't save or bank roll for future.

Cooley broke down film on him and said of the FA safeties, he's the one he likes the most...
 
Davin Joseph, 29, OG released by Tampa. Two-time pro bowl pick would be a good value play for the Redskins.

He had an uneven year in 2013 coming off injury but it doesn't appear to be career limiting.
 
Sunday night update.

The Redskins have interest in the following FAs according to various reports.

Arthur Jones.
Mike Mitchell.
Aqib Talib.
Chris Clemons.
Anthony Collins.
Geoff Schwartz.
Randy Starks.

Interesting Fact: Schwartz interned part of last month at ESPN 980 (DC) and enjoyed the area/experience.

The team does not seem to be interested in the following players.

Linval Joseph.
Kenny Britt.
Hakeem Nicks.
Brandon Spikes.

Ultimately, Perry Riley wants to stay and the Redskins do want him back. Look for a re-signing a few days after FA opens.
