I've been away from this forum for a while and lost track but it seems like everybody's doing well. At least I hope so!
Just got back from an alleged vacation turned business trip. I've decided to leave Los Angeles and head back to South Florida. I just accepted a job on a much larger vessel based out of Fort Lauderdale. Its rough and a lot of work, but instead of just a paycheck it will allow me to advance my licensing rather quickly. 1 year there will do more than 3 more out here. So its a kind of a no-brainer. Sad that I didn't get to see everything I wanted to out he in LaLa land but can definitely say I saw as much as was possible (on land.)
I refit this yacht virtually by myself and kept my end of the bargain between myself and the owners. I worked hard and could coast for the next two years collecting handsome paychecks with little labor. That's not me. Its been for sale for a year and they haven't budged on the asking price when myself and several other yacht brokers explained that its real value is half of the asking price. That gap is so wide that they are not taking me seriously. I worked my ass off for them so that they could sell it and now they are just being greedy. I was also overlooked to replace the crew on their other yacht on the east coast which royally pissed me off. So, peace out. Was nice while it lasted.
Tentative plans have me cruising the southern Caribbean for most of the upcoming summer. We tow a brand new 36' boat to fish and dive off of and oh yeah, the owners are from NC, which I find I can really relate to them. Hard working people who made their money by working, not just handed down from Daddy or Mama or Grandaddy or Grandmama. Getting along with the owners is one of the hardest parts in this business, I've spent over 10 hours on the phone with the new people over the last week and its SOOOOOO much more pleasant than any conversation with the current owners I work with ever was......ever.
On a side note I reconnected with my ex over the past few months and things albeit unexpectedly, are progressing slowly and looking up right now on that front.
Haven't really had any time or patience lately to devote to our team or my family here for that matter but even if we're not "facebook friends" or any of that garbage know this: I feel like this place is family and can't thank everyone here for allowing me to share my life with you, and thank you for sharing glimpses into your lives as well. I'm not always warm and fuzzy but you all mean a lot to me.
OK rant over, that's my update, see you on the right side soon enough. Peace out .
Kevin
