Reports are Gruden brought the beat reporters pizza after the press conference when he went to the media room to see them.

Confession time: I was quietly thinking the best bet was Whisenhunt.
But, per previous, we're sitting just fine with Gruden. Only thing that catches my attention is the obvious: the orchestration by Allen and the tie-ins to people he used to work for - most especially Hazlet. Gruden is going to need to establish his authorities early on and make it evident to everyone that he determined his staff. otherwise, the problem gets to be that if they get off to a rocky start the media will immediately begin ripping him as never having been placed in a position to succeed - and then the usual DC dynamic takes holds.

I think Tony Wyllie does that occasionally for the media guys and Gruden just delivered them. Gibbs did a much better job of handling the media when he was here - I got fed numerous times when I was there - including getting invited with Brian Murphy to come eat with the coaches. Chatting up Gibbs and sitting down and eating with Gregg Williams (who is hilarious) was one of my best memories from doing coverage duties. I think the media guys are going to love Gruden even though it's not their nature to do so.

Same here but then i'm thinking they wanted another WCO guy which makes sense. I'm not really anti Gruden and actually wanted Jon Gruden over Shanahan but I'm skeptical of anything that Snyder potentially has the ability to decide is best for the Redskins.

Make that 3 of us. Whis was my #1 choice but I'm not disappointed by the Gruden hire per se. I'm just meh on it until I see some results.

I don't blame these people. For 4 years Shanahan hung Haslett out to dry for failures in critical situations - and if Shanny himself made the calls (see Dez Bryant catches in 2011) then he should have owned up to it when it didn't work.
Ditto for the front office people.
Shanahan spent the last 2 months making excuse after excuse on his own and through his mouthpieces Schefter and Sally Jenkins for why things were not his fault.
Why not hear both sides?

What I'll never understand is why people have a problem with a new coach bringing in staff that their familiar with, or in this case coming to a team that had a number of staff members that he worked with before. It's not like every other coach doesn't do it. Hell, Gibbs did it when he returned.

I know I'm not a fan of Haslett coming back.
I'm also not the guy paying Shanahan $7 million next year to continue to smear my organization all over the world. After being screwed over by so many other former employees like Haynesworth in the same manner, that has to sting. He's also paying Kyle $1 million next year to tell his next employer our team's secrets.
I've seen estimates that say it would cost another $5 million to fire the rest of the staff. And how much in buyouts to other teams would new assistants cost? If they are currently under contract, that will cost even more.
The answer is pretty simple. If you think Haslett sucks, then you promote him with some bs title and have him pick up pizzas for the rest of the year. He's already under contract. You already have to pay him. Why pay him to possibly leave to a competitor?

He's not going to throw anyone, especially someone he's previously worked with, under the bus to the media on his first day at the job.
Geez, what do you expect him to say? "Yeah, Haslett blows!"
And if he goes to a competitor, he could tell them anything from our play calling to our weaknesses. There's no benefit to firing him.
Make him LB coach, promote him to some bs fake title....VP of football operations, etc. Find another DC. But there's no rush to fire him, and pay him too.

If he got a job with a competitor we start to owe him less. Right contract and we'll owe him nothing for his last year.

You bring up a valid point McD5. Snyder takes a ton of criticism regarding his motives. Several members are currently berating/beating him up for excessive marketing. But he's taking a huge (and personal) financial hit to move on from the Shanahans and to give the fans closure there and move forward.
Yet he gets zero credit or appreciation for that.
I get it. We've mostly sucked for a long time. I'm among Snyder's biggest critics. But you can't beat on him for these changes. There's only one reason you move on with multiple highly-paid coaches prior to their contract expiration - and the reason is, you want to WIN and make the determination that the current regime can't get it done.
Seriously...when you think about it...in this instance we ought to be kissing Daniel Snyder's ass and sending him flowers.
