2014 Coaching Search Rumors

Well, most of it comes off as misery, seeking company.

So?

People shouldn't be miserable when their team is consistently awful?

Negativity is a choice.

Oh! Well then. I choose for the team to go 13-3 this time. :)

There was no hire that was going to be greeted with 100% approval.

Older coaches are retreads.

Younger coaches are unproven.

For some the fact Allen knows Gruden is a bad thing.

In most places the fact the GM is confident about the choice from personal experience would be greeted with nods and smiles.

Not here.

Here, some see it as nepotism or cronyism without realizing trust between coaches on staff and the front office is what leads to titles.

Henry, it gets frustrating when someone makes a thread congratulating Pierre Garcon for breaking the Franchise Receptions Record, and someone has to come in and post something about how bad the rest of the WR corps is. Theres no reason for it, other then being negative. Being critical of the organization for failing? Sure. Being negative is what's frustrating.

Well, I for one just prefer reasoned thinking... not "too negative" and not "too positive" because honestly, there's almost always a spin you can take either way. Even at the end of this horrid season, you could say "hey, at least Shanahan is heading out. We could be the Cowboys with 3 straight 8-8 seasons, a rough salary cap situation, and no real reason to hope for positive change soon." There is always a way to spin something.

As for reasonable analysis, honestly, I'm not just blowing smoke here - but not sure how you can really find fault with what Henry is saying. None of it is untrue, in my mind, it sounds reasonable to me.

My opinion, I guess my real concerns are that the defense feels like it is not fixed here, and I believe that we had serious personnel problems all over defense which can help things, but then on offense I think we desperately need OL changes. Desperately. I think we will get that on O. I am cautiously optimistic about our offense's future with Jay Gruden and a fresh start (not that I thought the offense was horrible before, though - I mainly just thought the old regime didn't respect the importance of OL and draft enough). My concern is D.

So, stock is rising: O. Let's see what we do in Draft and F/A before we jump the gun here.
So, stop dropping or staying steady (which isn't good): D. Let's see what we do in Draft and F/A though; there are plenty of places for improvement from a pure personnel standpoint.
In terms of a head coach, I think this could work out well, but I don't believe it was the greatest coaching search. I still have hope anyway. My main concern right now is on the future of the defense. Last year's defense and special teams seemed atrocious to me, and I'm simply not a believer in Haslett right now. I hope he will prove me wrong if he's staying, which is what the latest signs point to.

We have another rational, reasoned poster here folks. Can I get a 'Hallelujah'?

The more the merrier !

Man if Gruden's post game pressers are half as good as his practice ranting this is going to be awesome! Can't wait for him to call some of these "sports writers" out for stupid ass questions.

Items such as leaks, cap-gate, the "all offensive" name change, missed penalties, is Bob really the GM, etc. I mean if we suck on game day call it like it is without all the side shows.

I'll be like the emperor saying 'good...let the hate flow!!!'

I see the same things being said about Gruden that I saw our own fans going after Kyle for. Both of which are widely considered in the league to be bright offensive minds.

Pretty much my point by posting that article about the Bengals game. Gruden is going to abandon the run just as much or more than Kyle and if RG3 looks anywhere near as lost as he did this year trying to run a pass first offense we won't win 6 games next year and Morris could be like Stephen Davis in Spurriers offense, an afterthought and trade bait.

Maybe we as fans need to be more opened minded about young up and coming coordinators... and what the future hold for the NFL....

you wanna know what Im honestly getting sick of? I am sick of people being allowed to be negative and shit all over the team they root for and be supported by it. But when I come back and say something positive and ask them what will make them happy I get called out. THAT is frustrating. I havent called anyone names and I havent broken any rules. Yet every time I see someone go "oh great, the redskins once again do ....." right after we have done something positive (hire a GM, vet a coach before hiring him) I ask them why. Wouldnt you want to know what it takes to make someone happy when ALL they do is constantly shit on the team and every move made?

Mike, you asked what would make people happy and people answered your question. I don't see anyone calling you out for it. Are you referring to something else?

I did see Ax call 'negative' people pathetic, dishonest, punchbowl pissers who should go root for the Patriots. That's where I'm coming from.

My general personal policy is if I don't have anything nice to say about the team I don't say it. I'm generally pretty quiet most offseasons. :) To be honest I don't hate the Gruden move. I don't hate Allen being made GM. Things could have gone a lot worse than that.

But I'm just going to wait and see. I don't know enough about Gruden to make a true judgement yet. I'm sure we'll find out more real quick.

Gruden would not get away with abandoning the run here. The rabid fans and in your face media types would from the first press conference today will explain to him the importance of running the ball consistently, and not becoming another Andy Reid.

I understand general skepticism - I'm an advocate for it! But there's no reason to despair the Gruden hire before he's even begun. He's an accomplished coach and there are a lot if positives. That's where I draw a line. Blame/hate on Snyder, previous staff, players, even Allen to an extent. But Gruden and his incoming staff are here to take us down a new path. No reason not to welcome them. There's a difference in believing it will get better and believing it CAN get better. I'm firmly in camp #2.

I don't know anything about him either but when you look and the first thing you find is Bengals fans crying about playcalling and players saying the same thing it sounds just like what we saw this year except our team won 8 fewer games and didnt have a top 5 defense. Did Kyle ever call for 31 pass plays that resulted in 0 points in the 4th quarter? Imagine our fans reaction to that for a minute.

Why would we let Wade Phillips sit there unemployed AGAIN while holding onto the guy who always has the 25th or worse defense in the league over 15+ years? It boggles the mind.

Phillips will get picked up by a team and Skins fans will once again say "What if" next year after Haslett is the 2015 fall guy and Phillips defense is ranked top 3 wherever he ends up.

Well, negativity should be expected with all the losing being done for so long, and over sensitivity should be expected as well. Just a symptom of the problem. The problem being Losing. Just win and all will be well. I figure I can position myself for a great big "I told you so" either way I go. Thus, I'll jump on the Bandwagon yet again. Dream of the success our new young HC will bring in coming years. Hell, even a blind squirrel gets a nut, and as Boone says, past failures certainly aren't JG's fault. Holy crap!!! See that. Initials of a winner. I'm all in for sure now. :)

are people who are constantly negative going to be right? Sure, if you shit on everything something is bound to stink every now and then.

you wanna know what Im honestly getting sick of?
...

While we're on the subject, I'm honestly sick of you telling everyone else how to be a fan. As much as you bitch about the 'negative' people going around every thread, you sure as shit ride right along behind them with your own shtick.

Telling people to go root for other teams... leave the forum... etc.

It's a symptom of a losing football team... fans blame the play callings.

If the play works then everyone's a genius, if it doesn't then everyone knew it was a bad play and it shouldn't have happened.

And then we get into these # of runs vs passes stats as if that somehow tells the whole story.

It's just what every fanbase does. It'll be the same under Gruden if the results are losses.

Jay Gruden? Ok.

I'm from Missouri,show me.

The other question I have?

Is anyone close by McD5? I fear he may have stroked out upon the news of Jay's hire and his Life Alert crapped out on him........

McD5 is mysteriously missing from the celebration. He really wanted Gruden!

He's probably took the day off and went straight to the bar to treat the neighborhood or something. ;)
