I'm not trying to saddle Allen with 'blame' - I generally like what I've seen and heard from him. My point is, Allen clearly wasn't a 'figurehead', so acknowledging that while simultaneously saying he holds NO RESPONSIBILITY for what transpired during the Shanahan era makes no sense. Even Allen himself took responsibility for some of the failures of the past 4 years, so I'm not sure why folks are so damn determined to lay it all on Shanahan.

To hear you guys tell it, Snyder and Allen spent the past 4 years sitting in armchairs and saying 'Well - let's see if Mike screws it all up'. I just don't buy that.

Take the drafting of RG3, which many point to as a bad decision that was far too costly and set our team back. Accepting that at face value for argument's sake, are we seriously to believe that Snyder AND Allen had zero to say about that, had nothing to do with the decision, and just let Shanahan make the decision?

According to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden “is among the top names” on Bruce Allen’s list of candidates. In fact, “Jay Gruden could end up atop their wish list.”

This report by Tandler and the blurb by JLC do nothing to say with certainty that Jay Gruden is the "leader" for the head coaching position here.

Well, Jay Gruden doesn't seem to have done that well with Dalton's ability to read defenses. Two bad picks today and four last week!

Play calling was poor as well in several third down situations.

When I looked at the stats on NFL.com at the conclusion of the game, it must not have been updated. It showed 44.

All the pundits claim that this is now a passing league and with the rules slanted towards the passing game, that may be true.

But when faced with the elements that severely affect passing: wind,severe cold,rain/snow....if you can't run the ball,you're sunk.

And I still believe that the run game is just as important as it ever was. Look at the Chiefs yesterday. Lost their 1st and 2nd string backs and could not grind out the clock with that big lead.

Saints/Eagles. Late in the second half, the Saints ground the clock/Eagles out and kept that fast break offense Kelly has on the bench.

That's why we need to build this Oline into something dominant. Once that happens, everything else falls into place.

you know this was inevitably coming: so, you're basically saying "as GM he has some responsibility for what unfolded" ok. but given Shanahan's contract..what specifically was Allen accountable for? so far, your point seems to be "not stopping Shanahan more quickly." what else?

Wade Phillips was fired by Houston. If we keep Jim Haslett instead of firing him and snagging Wade immediately, I will lose a lot of faith I have in Bruce Allen. No way a GM with any sense passes on the opportunity to pick up a DC like Wade when a shitbrain like Haslett is on the staff.

I'd have preference for a young and upcoming assistant from Seattle or San Francisco's staff to run the D. I don't know of any candidates, but with that much success, there has to be at least a couple.

That's not to say I wouldn't be happy with Wade, but he is getting old. Of course Jim Johnson coached solid Ds up into his 70s, I believe.

So, what was Allen's role? Do you know? All I know is that he had/has a VP title and is Danny's latest veneer of legitimacy. I guess that's all you need to be in DS' entourage. Some past NFL legitimacy.

It's funny how Allen has gotten a free pass for the continued buffoonery in the last 4 years.

And does anyone really think Allen will tell Danny 'no' when he needs to? Danny says the role of the GM is to make the owner choose the right decision. That's why Vinny was fired. He didn't make the owner look good.

yawn.....I get the scratch in the record part vis Snyder. you unwittingly made my point: you have no idea what Allen's ASSIGNED responsibilities were. just more emotional convulsions.
